I received my autism diagnosis and thank Darius Bowman

Because I received my autism diagnosis yesterday, I thought I'd draw Darius Bowman, who I'm definitely autistic and also my second favorite character (after Benjamin Pincus).

Darius has a clear special interest (dinosaurs) that continues to fascinate him even after all the traumatic experiences he had in his childhood and early adolescence.

Even at the age of twelve, he had extensive knowledge of dinosaurs, and he retained this knowledge as a teenager/young adult.

He sometimes understands social situations more slowly or differently than others (for example, the separation of Sammy and Yaz, ...), but he is very empathetic and helpful in his own way.

The fact that Darius is (possibly) aromantic also fits quite well, in my opinion.

In my opinion, Darius, who has autism, demonstrates that autism isn't simply about stimming, selfishness, and social ineptitude (which many unfortunately still believe), but rather a neurodivergent way of thinking.

I'm incredibly grateful to Darius for showing that it's not necessary to be in a romantic relationship or pretend to be someone you're not in order to lead an adult life.

Benjamin Fitzgerald Pincus at primary school-age

In my mind, before he discovered fanny packs, Ben carried his mother's small, old bag to take his most important belongings everywhere.

Because his father was very embarrassed about it ("boys don't carry handbags!"), his mother only got him his first fanny pack a little later.

Hobbies:

Reading: I like the idea that before Nublar, Ben was a bookworm who preferred immersing himself in imaginary worlds to the real one.

Organizing: It doesn't sound like a hobby, but I can imagine that pre-Nublar Ben passionately (or compulsively) sorted objects like toys, books, etc.

Fantasy worlds: I think that as a child (or rather, before Nublar), Ben loved to immerse himself in fictional worlds. Especially worlds that he found exciting (pirates searching for treasure, he drew treasure maps for them, etc.), but that didn't frighten him.

Diagnoses:

Chronic iron deficiency anemia: In my imagination, Ben has undiagnosed ARFID (canonical fear of certain foods, brings its own symptoms, etc.) and therefore an iron deficiency he's had since childhood, which was also evident at the beginning of JWCC through his very pale skin, frequent malaise, and shortness of breath (also from panic attacks, but anemia can exacerbate this).

Anxiety and panic disorder/phobias: Ben definitely has a pronounced anxiety disorder (at the beginning of JWCC), which manifests itself in many situations (travel, animals, dirt, germs, food, self-confidence, social interactions, etc.).

Even after what was probably the most intense incident of his life (the fall from the monorail), Ben definitely still shows signs of his anxiety, just in a completely different, masked/altered form. But this is about the child Ben.

I could think of a few more things, but now I have to go to sleep!

A few days ago, while I was at a market, I saw a young man in a wheelchair.

My first thought was of Ben, but when I saw the wheelchair (he was initially behind a woman), I discovered that there were dinosaurs on the wheels: a Carnotaurus on one, and a few brachiosaurs and pteranodons on the other.

Even though these detailed images might trigger too many memories for the Camp Fam 24/7, I thought that this wheelchair could almost have been made especially for Ben 😅.

I'm currently in a concert hall (I hate this 😅) and next to me is a raised platform for wheelchair users, small children, and people with disabilities.

The first thing I thought was: "I wonder if all the Nublar 6 would be up there with Ben, or just one of them with the rest standing next to him?"

The second thing I thought: "This place is practically hell. The Nublar 6 could hardly stand it here without flashbacks, anxiety, and panic attacks—maybe Darius would stay out of politeness, until he experienced an autistic shutdown or meltdown."😐

Bens physical transformation (my explanation):

I recently asked about Ben's extreme growth.

I was just talking to my mother about it in the car and found a plausible explanation:

At 14, Ben was very small and especially thin for his age, which is quite possible. I also suspect that Ben was an extremely picky eater as a child and may even have had ARFID (Aversion to Foods and Drugs), since he was afraid of the look and texture of whipped cream. In addition to his extreme fear of germs and dirt, this would fit well with his behavior in childhood (up until Nublar), as certain foods definitely seemed "unclean." Furthermore, Ben suffered from severe motion sickness before Nublar, and I can easily imagine that he also had trouble digesting certain textures or foods due to disgust or fear.

Ben was about 15 years old when he came to Costa Rica with the other members of Nublar 6. I find it hard to imagine that six children presumed dead, who had been found on one (or rather two) dinosaur-infested islands, were simply allowed to return to their parents. I imagine they were quickly admitted to a hospital (isolated from other patients) for immediate examination. Since all six (regardless of their build) were definitely malnourished and deficient after about seven months of subsisting mainly on canned fruit, berries (and beetles), they were almost certainly given nutrients and gradually reintroduced to normal food (avoiding refeeding syndrome).

At home, however, this was certainly more difficult. I think that Ben, in particular, who had been alone for weeks and had to live on berries and beetles (especially considering his tendency to get used to things), had trouble getting back to a normal and balanced diet.

Since all six (regardless of their build) were definitely malnourished and deficient after about seven months of mostly surviving on canned fruit, berries (and beetles), they were almost certainly given nutrients and gradually reintroduced to normal food (avoiding refeeding syndrome). By the time all of this was more or less under control, Ben was probably already around 16 years old, without experiencing a truly drastic growth spurt typical for his age.

We know what he looked like around 2018 (at about 17 years old). He was still rather short, but no longer as tiny as he had been at 14. Despite Mediterranean exercise (I assume that after Nublar, Ben had a much stronger urge to go outside), his physique was still very delicate.

Physical recovery after severe malnutrition can take about two years. This corresponds roughly to Ben's 18th or 19th year.

Around this time, Ben also started college and moved out of his parents' house. I suspect that between the ages of 18 and 20, he experienced an incredibly rapid growth spurt (about 25 cm), which undoubtedly brought with it physical problems (back pain, headaches, mild heart issues, etc.).

Not solely because of this, but also as a result, Ben began to train. This not only helped him combat the pain caused by his rapid growth, but also allowed him to gain weight and muscle mass (which wouldn't have been possible in Nublar due to the malnutrition).

That's my explanation for Ben's remarkable physical transformation.

My introduction

Hi! My real name is Lia, I'm from Austria, and I'm 19 years old.

I discovered JWCC through my brother when I was 13, and it quickly became an important part of my life.

It's one of my fandom trio, which has been switching every few months for many years: At ten, I became a Ninjago fan, at eleven a Harry Potter fan (later mostly of the Marauders, especially Remus), and at thirteen, JWCC followed, then JWCT.

Since November, I've been in a huge JWCT phase again: I can probably count on one hand the number of days since November 21st when I haven't watched an episode of JWCT Season 4.

Since the beginning of January, I've been watching everything in English to hear the original dialogue, and I can practically recite some of the last few episodes from memory.

Two years ago I struggled with anorexia and was extremely underweight. Since then writing (and until recently reading) has become much more difficult for me (I used to write as if it were as easy as walking), but I keep trying to write fanfiction myself and read some on AO3 every day (many 4-5 times or more).

My brother used to love dinosaurs, but he never sank that deeply into a story.

In any case, I really love this site because .you’re as passionate about fandoms as no one in my real-life environment, and I think that’s amazing!

My favorite character is Ben (since the first episode of JWCC), followed by Darius. Even though I used to absolutely love Benius, I think the idea of ​​Darius as an aromantic character is fantastic (I've never been in love).

Otherwise, I like Benji, and I do like Gia, but I don't think she's a perfect match for Ben.

I love the relationship between Ben, Kenji, and Darius, but also between Ben and Yaz/Kenji and Sammy.

I’m not exactly sure how introductions work here. Do people introduce themselves here?

I’d like to post here myself sometimes, since JWCC and JWCT have been two of my favorite fandoms for many years, but do you just post, or do you introduce yourself first?
