See, this is why I like libraries. Went in to drop off a book that needed to be returned today. Return system glitched. Joked about it with another patron and a library worker.
Browsed. Found a mis-shelved book, initially wanted to hand it over to a librarian but then read the synopsis and it sounded intriguing so instead it's coming home with me. (Book is A Gathering of Old Men by Ernest J. Gaines, never heard of it but I'm reading it and I'll let you know how I like it).
Not sure got to feel when the hobby book says this should only take an hour but it took me 5 hours.
1. Hobby books are often written by the same people who think you can caramelize onions in 5 minutes
2. Hobby books are even more often written by people who don't have or are actively neglecting their partners/full-time jobs/pets/children/household maintenance.
3. Hobby books are often written by people with ADHD, and an hour in ADHD hyperspace is like 2-7 hours for everyone else, including other ADHD people who are not currently in the zone.
4. Hobby books are written by people who, when told by an editor to add in how long it will take, just make shit up
5. If you're doing something for the first time, you're going to take way, way longer to do it than someone who's had years of practice. Maybe it does only take an hour IF YOU'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR TEN YEARS. Think about how long it took you to make idk your first excel spreadsheet vs how long it takes now
To actually answer your question: proud. You should feel proud, because you made something, AND you did so while learning a brand-new skill! Go you!!
May I ask what the Allegedly-One-Hour project was? Both because I like hearing about what my friends are doing and I want to see how wildly inaccurate the listed time scope is.

“Home is where the trees look normal” is the sweetest, saddest, most nostalgic truth I’ve ever heard.
There was a really cool sundog effein the sky yesterday morning. It kept changing as the clouds moved, getting longer and shorter and brighter. At one point there was one on either side. But my phone wasn’t quite up to the task. Here’s one I got where you can see it pretty clearly but I wish’s I could show you how it kept changing from there
I realise I haven't been around here much, lately.
Rest assured all is well: it's housesitting season, so I have my parents' place to myself and I've been cooking up a storm. Work has been pretty busy as well, now that we're in the final stretch before summer (6 or 7 more weeks of work and then I'm FREE for at least three full weeks, possibly four). And I've been hanging out with friends and family and enjoying the insanely nice weather we've been having.
I also keep signing myself up to every vaguely interesting literary event in town. Next up: a book launch in two weeks.
I've recently discovered this town has a graphic novel scene with lots of interesting people.
now what were your great-grandfathers' jobs. that's more interesting. mine were a factory worker / industrial baker, a security guard, a lawyer, and a dairy farmer.

it’s an absolute crime that this website isn’t losing its collective shit over the raven scholar by antonia hodgson. I really think tumblr users would also like The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson. and probably many of my friends would enjoy reading THE RAVEN SCHOLAR, BY ANTONIA HODGSON—
I love this warm weather so much. I prefer how my hair looks when I let it air dry, but I almost always have to blow dry the shit out of it because if my head gets even a tiny bit cold I get a pulsating migraine.
self-awareness check, list five things you like that aren't media pieces in the tags now ‼️
hokay so i was curious as a point of contrast to the Guardian list how well tumblr would do on a best 100 SFF novels list. so i went looking for one and google directed me to NPR's top 100 novels list and i'm like aight i'll just use that one keep it simple. but as i scrolled down the list i was like wait there's been no Octavia Butler at all?? which i honestly found quite offensive but i was deep into adding books to my list challenge by that point.
also the version of the list i was looking at only had 97 entries on it; i am unsure if that's a counting error bcos some of the entries are series or if it's just missing 3 items off the NPR list but i opted to rectify both issues by adding 3 Octavia Butler books on the end.
so here is my list challenge of the 97 book long NPR top 100 list but I added Octavia Butler:
NPR top 100 books except there were only 97 on the list so I added 3 Octavia Butler's on the end. why in the world the original list had...
