Dawn couldn’t stop gawking at the ring Leo had given her for Christmas. Upon receiving it from him she was of course incredibly thankful of the gift but all the same it was a ring.. how was one supposed to react to that? It wasn’t like he gave it to her directly, separately. It was accompanied by the beautiful necklace of course, which she also donned around her neck. But the ring - she couldn’t look away. If there were a free moment in the office she was staring at it or twirling it around her right ring finger, which, she had hoped it wasn’t bad she was wearing it there and not the other ring finger. Was this any kind of promise ring? Dawn couldn’t help but wonder, in the most anxious of ways, of course, or perhaps it was just a ring, a gift. Whatever it was it made her nervous. 

It wasn’t until she felt a presence behind her that she looked up, Leo emerging from his office. “Oh,” she got up, “Lunch is on the way, they just called with the update. And uh,” she looked down at her notepad briefly before looking back at the mayor. “The conference room is reserved for this afternoon’s meeting, and I’ll actually be back from the errand I have to run so I will be there.” | @lionmayor

Leo walked out of his office planning on asking Dawn about lunch when he saw her gawking at the ring.  Maybe it had been too much, maybe he should have gone with earrings instead.  It didn’t have a diamond but maybe she mistook at as a proposal.  She had been acting differently around him lately.  Had he accidentally scared her off?

“Do you have to run that errand right now?” he asked frowning.  “I’d like to have a chance to talk to you.  I feel like we haven’t properly talked since Christmas.”  He paused for a moment to gather his thoughts and figure out the words he was looking for.  “The ring, was it too much?  Do you not like it?  I probably could return it.  I could get you earrings instead or a bracelet or another necklace.”

“And why the fuck would I do that?”

“Because people are more attracted to those with a positive attitude and it would make business dealings easier if the other companies you work with and make deals with find you pleasant.  Swearing is also unattractive and shows less intelligence, especially frequent swearing.  You can’t find a better noun, verb, adjective, etc. to express yourself so you just swear.”

“Well maybe you should try to have a more positive attitude or work on not swearing as much.”

The last city event, of course Lucy could recall it well. She had taken the road less traveled following that event and took to her home, choosing not to get caught up in the chaos after her children were taken from her, kidnapped and she was forced to scramble to save them. Since then she had been keeping a low profile - as most of the Tremaines had been doing. It seemed to be a family coping mechanism, keeping it quiet after a fiasco. Of course some of Lucy’s friends had told her what good publicity it would be, doting around her kidnapped children, but to Lucy that was classless. The woman couldn’t draw attention to it, not at all. But she smiled as she kept her gaze on Leo. “It’s wonderful to see you too, and yes, busy seems to be a reoccuring theme this time of year.” she nodded, “I am having a lovely time, I did come with my daughters but they’ve escaped somewhere, off looking at a few gifts - perhaps for myself because they were being rather secretive. Some things will never change. Are you here alone?”

“Lots of shopping or are you busy planning a big Christmas special for your show?” he asked curious.  “Oh that’s a shame, I would love to properly get to meet your daughters.  Your son was quite interesting when I met him.  Yes and no, I’m alone right now while Dawn’s working but we’ll probably walk around together later on.”

@lionmayor The hot chocolate was just what Lucy needed to warm herself up as she strolled through the market, hot chocolate with a little peppermint schnapps of course, it was practically a Christmas tradition that the woman stroll the streets after a few of those concoctions and the markets just made everything better. There was something serene about strolling down the market after dark, lights twinkling all around her, people still mingling with vendors here and there, and there was the occasional greeting towards the woman which she didn’t often mind, especially throughout the holidays. Lucy was happy to greet a fan every now and then. A huge smile spread across her lips as she spotted the mayor ahead of her - it had been quite some time since the two had run into each other, ages it seemed. Lucy was more than happy to greet him with a smile. “Mayor Lionheart, darling.” she said, leaning in to press a greeting kiss against his cheek. “How’ve you been? The city certainly looks beautiful for the Christmas holiday, I must say your people have done a splendid job.”

Leo was walking through the market checking in on different booths and socializing.  Mostly to be polite and keep a good positive image, he didn’t really care to talk to most of these people, probably couldn’t tell you their name if he was asked.  “Oh, Lady Tremaine, how wonderful to see you again.”  He greeted her smiling.  “Busy but who isn’t this time of year?  Thank you, we try very hard to make the city look festive especially after how unfortunate the last city event went.  I hope you’re having a good time.  Are you here with any of your children?”

Leo was right. They never had the opportunity to be out like this in public, Dawn so openly affectionate and even Leo was coming out of his shell a bit with her. She did like it. “And it feels so right.” Dawn took the last big sip of her drink before leaning in quickly so he could kiss her. Once they were out on the dance floor, she pulled herself closer to him. “Now, don’t get me wrong, I do love the cats. Really they’re a lot of fun, and the house is so much cozier with all of them. But I will say being able to go out on the town is a very nice change, yes.” 

“Don’t worry, I completely understand what you’re saying.  They’re my cats and even I like some time away from them.  It’s nice to be able to have some time out in public and also to have a moment when we don’t have to worry about the cats coming and begging for attention.”

“Oh, right, sorry - of course!” Dawn nodded, stepping back to give Leo a bit more space, room to get up as he sat his glass down onto the table. As she waited she paused to look back at him, a smile across her lips. It was incredibly weird, being out with him, in a bar and not for an event. It was weird but it was a good weird, it was a weird the young woman could get used to. Of course she’d still worry about the looks, but all the same, in this moment she was too happy to worry about what anyone might have to say about this.

“It’s okay.  You’re just excited, can’t blame you.  We’ve never been able to do anything like this before,” he said shaking his head.  He set down his drink and gave her a kiss before going with her to dance.  “It’s a nice change isn’t it?  Getting to go out instead of spending all our time together in with the cats?”

Leo still wasn’t used to going out in public with Dawn or at least going out to non-professional things together.  It was nice to be able to not worry about how people would react or if they were standing too close together or acting too intimate.  At the same time thought it was weird not having to worry about any of those things.  Dawn seemed even more beautiful tonight as she relaxed and allowed herself to have a good time.  He had been taking a sip from his drink when she pulled him up to dance.  “Just a second, dear.  Let me set this down first.”

Aaric dropped the subject and moved forward. “…Anyway I’m going to meet with their event coordinator on Wednesday morning so we can figure out some more things and set some dates up and such. They also wanted to come see you. I directed them to Dawn.” He clicked his tongue as he wrote it in on his calendar. “It wouldn’t explode. Maybe a few fires here or there, but nothing too serious.”

“Sounds good.  They want to see me about what?  You seem to be handling everything.  That’s probably the best, she knows my schedule better than I do,” he said nodding.  “You’re not making me feel any more confident about leaving you in charge ever.”

“You couldn’t handle me even if you wanted to, Mr. Magoo,” he said with an eye roll. “I know what happened. I wasn’t there, but we were summoned there afterwards. So, I know. I’m not going to argue with you right now when I actually have work to do.” He picked up a pen. “And last I checked, the person in charge usually has the most to do.”

“I wouldn’t want to touch you with a ten and a half foot pole.  I’d be better off trying to handle an actual lion than you.  God knows what you’d do,” he muttered.  “So you should understand why I’m not very patient regarding you whining about a dog.  Oh look at that you’re actually doing work for a change.  The person in charge usually had people he can rely on to delegate things to.  I should be able to feel like I could go on vacation and the city wouldn’t explode while I’m gone.”

“First of all, fuck you. I hope your cat dies. Second, I just got off the phone with with a church and we are going to participate in a charity fundraiser for the families of the people who died.” He leaned back in his chair. “And you act like I don’t work.”

“You’re not my type, way too tall.  I get it, it’s sad it’s your pet but if you hadn’t noticed there was basically a massacre a few days ago.  People are going to expect us to do something so the dog can wait.  The state of your puppy won’t potentially turn people against us,” he responded crossing his arms.  “You hardly work.  You seem to put in the minimal hours necessary and I’m not sure how but I seem to end up doing everything despite being the one in charge.”

Lana nodded as Leo spoke. “Good, don’t digress from that statement.” she said, “The worst thing you can do is promise help and to seek out how to make things better and then go back on that. Not that I believe you will, Mayor Lionheart, but it never hurts to give a reminder.”

“I wasn’t planning on it.  I’ll make sure we do everything we can.  I’ll have Aaric take care of things himself or put someone in charge of taking care of things or maybe Dawn, he’s been absent the last few days.”
