DSOTW#2 - Task Manager by Robert van Klinken
Welcome to the second DSOTW (Dribbble Shot of the Week) and this has been one of my favourite all week when I first saw it.
Over the past 2-3 months, UI (User Interface) has really taken my interest and I've realised how much of an impact it can make on your design if designed well and this is a prime example of a well designed UI.
Go check this shot out!
You can view this on Robert's Dribbble here.

Ending the day on a high
So after spending endless hours today going over the final changes to the Powerhost4u redesign it was finally time to open up Photoshop as I have barely touched it over the past few weeks and get something done.
Now, this wasn't something that I needed to do but after stumbling across something similar on Dribbble it was about time I learnt something and this time, I'd be learning how to create a vinyl.
I'm quite pleased as to how this turned out and I have something else planned for Photoshop over the next few days.
Redesign, and fast!
When I first began Liquid-Drive, I had planned on designing the website first (www.liquid-drive.co.uk) before I began anything else but that wasn't the case.
Now, almost 8 months down the timeline I decided to force myself to redesign the website I current had (using the Premium Pixels WordPress theme) by deleting - well, basically everything.
After just over 4 hours, I've created myself a clean, simple and to the point design - well, it's almost finished. But it's 4.27AM and I guess it's time to get some well needed rest.
You can go check out the current design here!
A Minecraft Project
For quite some time now, myself and a bunch of friends have been planning on getting together and creating our own Minecraft community.
Yesterday evening, I began working on the website whilst some of the guys (you'll hear more from these in the future) started installing some must have mods to get things going.
Here's a quick snapshot of the current UI for the slider and featured images.
Since yesterday evening, the majority of the home page has been designed and coded just for now with HTML & CSS. Within the next few days as soon as we make some final adjustments to the design, we'll then implement it into PyroCMS and be ready to launch within just a few weeks of starting out.

From VPS to Dedicated Server!
So today we finally made the move from our awesome VPS from HostDime to having our own dedicated server (Dell R210) located at a data center in Cheltenham, UK.
Thankfully, everything went very smooth and now it's just a case of waiting for some ISP's to update their DNS to point towards the new server.
In the next month or two, we have a few surprises which will hopefully take the web hosting market by storm.

DSOTW#1 - Canon 5D by Mikael Eidenberg
Welcome to the very first DSOTW (Dribbble Shot of the Week) and what a great start it is.
Over the week, I've been looking through Dribbble a lot. Not only for inspiration, but to check out what some artists have been up to and this couldn't have come at a better time. Just when I thought that I'd have to postpone this first week, I came across this and knew straight away. This was easily my favourite shot of the week.
So here it is, the "Canon 5D" modeled in Cinema 4D by Mikael Eidenberg
Mikael created several images in total so I thought it would be a good idea to post the additional images here.
Mikael also rendered a 360° view of the Canon 5D
You can view this shot on Dribbble or on Mikael's portfolio.

Theming for Wordpress
Just over 3 months ago, I finally had the chance to learn how to theme for Wordpress. But since then, I didn't actually make a theme but I did create my own framework for future purposes.
Thankfully, I still have that framework so over the next couple of weeks I've put all personal projects on hold and I'll be 'whipping up' my first theme (at least I intend on doing so).
So be expecting some snapshots, maybe even some snippets of code if I feel that it would be helpful.
Have a great weekend!
Gettin' creative!
Over the past month, I've been working on a Freelance with project which has left me spending endless hours developing. After finally crossing the finish line, I've decided that it's time to open up photoshop and getting sketching again.
As mentioned a previous post, I intend on working on a few personal projects which I'm pretty excited about as I have complete control over the design, and the backend! So over the next month you'll be seeing some snapshots of what I've been up to and possible some snippets of code if they're useful.
Unfortunately, the first project I'll be starting with doesn't yet have a name but I'll leave you with a clue - Desktop Backgrounds!
CSS Reset (HTML5 included!)
Resetting your CSS is something that I'm come across a lot recently, especially whether you should be using it or not (this article answered a lot of my questions).
If you are in favour of using CSS resets, then I would highly recommend using the following:
html, body, div, span, object, iframe, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, p, blockquote, pre, abbr, address, cite, code, del, dfn, em, img, ins, kbd, q, samp, small, strong, sub, sup, var, b, i, dl, dt, dd, ol, ul, li, fieldset, form, label, legend, table, caption, tbody, tfoot, thead, tr, th, td, article, aside, canvas, details, figcaption, figure, footer, header, hgroup, menu, nav, section, summary, time, mark, audio, video { margin:0; padding:0; border:0; outline:0; font-size:100%; vertical-align:baseline; background:transparent; } body { line-height:1; } article,aside,details,figcaption,figure, footer,header,hgroup,menu,nav,section { display:block; } nav ul { list-style:none; } blockquote, q { quotes:none; } blockquote:before, blockquote:after, q:before, q:after { content:''; content:none; } a { margin:0; padding:0; font-size:100%; vertical-align:baseline; background:transparent; } ins { background-color:#ff9; color:#000; text-decoration:none; } mark { background-color:#ff9; color:#000; font-style:italic; font-weight:bold; } del { text-decoration: line-through; } abbr[title], dfn[title] { border-bottom:1px dotted; cursor:help; } table { border-collapse:collapse; border-spacing:0; } hr { display:block; height:1px; border:0; border-top:1px solid #cccccc; margin:1em 0; padding:0; } input, select { vertical-align:middle; }
Having used this reset for the past 6 months, my styling process has become a lot easier and saved myself a great amount of time. I am most definitely in favour of using resets and you should be too.
Managing Tasks with Wunderlist!
Whether it be a project or a day-to-day chore, managing your tasks can be a struggle so heres a few recommendations regarding the management of tasks. From past experience, keeping hold of post-it notes can sometimes be harder than managing your tasks themselves.
So let me introduce to you a wunderful task-manager that I use on a daily basis for almost everything - Wunderlist!
Just over 3 months ago, I was introduced to Wunderlist through Dribbble after searching around for some inspiration. From that day onwards, I haven't touched a post-it note since.
Wunderlist is one of the worlds most popular task-managers and is continuing to rise day-by-day with an astonishing total of over 70 million tasks created. Some of Wunderlist's features include:
Lists: These allow you to split up tasks into categories
Share: Working on a project with a friend or colleague? No problem - you can share lists between users using email, Facebook, twitter and other social media sites.
Cross-platform: Even if you need to head out of the office, you can take Wunderlist with you as they offer a client for near enough every platform there is!
These are just some of Wunderlist's amazing features which help organise your tasks with extreme ease.
Without writing a novel on how well Wunderlist works - I forgot the best part, its FREE! So what you waiting for, go get yourself the client now!
I'm back!
At the beginning of this year, I told myself I was going to blog more often due to the lack of posts in the previous year.
So here we are, almost a month and a half in here it is... better late than never I guess.
So what have I been up to?
I've been working pretty hard and its starting to pay off. My development skills have rapidly increased and I'd see myself feeling pretty damn confortable when it comes to designing. Just over 5 or 6 months ago, it's hard to believe that my knowledge of some core development languages was next to none and my Photoshop skills, well they sucked.
Also, over the past 5 or 6 months now... myself and my dear friend Tom (you'll be hearing more about him in the future) have been running our own Web Hosting company and things are beginning to take off - you should see the new design within a couple of weeks as we've put it on hold for freelance projects we've been working on.
What's to expect from myself?
As mentioned, I intend to blog a lot more... my aim is to blog at least once a day (possibly more), it may seem a long stretch but I will try as eventually I'll be putting my blogging skills to use for a future project myself and Tom (yep, him again) have planned - more use have on the planbed - more information to come soon!
Well there it is, my first blog post of this year of many to come and thank-you for reading!
Feel free to follow myself on Twitter for updates.
