To be careful with people and with words was a rare and beautiful thing.

We out here feeling grateful for each morning! We’re contacting our loved ones when we need a lil pick me up! We’re trying to be productive & being compassionate with ourselves when we arent! We’re taking care of our bodies & minds like they deserve! We’re reaching for the lives that we want & taking the chances in front of us!!!

John Cage to Merce Cunningham, July 22 1944
In honor of November 28, I’m doing drawings related to Albanian history, myths, and culture.
i started yesterday but i forgot to post so here’s yesterday + today’s doodles:-)
1. Queen Teuta the Untameable, fierce ancient Illyrian warrior queen
2 & 3. The Zana, Albanian mythological beings with beauty, bravery, and immense power (Zanë e malit)
4. Nora of Kelmendi, the greatest Albanian warrior in history
5. Shote Galica (L) and Xheve Krasniqi ®: Shote Galica was a Kachak Albanian insurgent who became a part of the movement, fighting alongside her husband, Azem Galica. When he died, she took over as leader of his unit, with the rank of commander. She is declared as the People’s Heroine of Albania.
Xheve Krasniqi was a KLA soldier in the Kosovan war in the late 1990s. She is the only female KLA warrior to have the rank of general-major, the highest any Albanian woman has had. Similar to Shote Galica, she fought alongside her husband, Fehmi Lladrovci, till death.🇦🇱🇽🇰
6. Margarita Tutulani (L) and Liri Gero ®:
Margarita Tutulani was an anti-fascist hero and martyr. Born and raised in Berat, she studied at the Queen Mother Pedagogical Institute in Tirana. She returned to Berat to protest against the Italian invasion and occupation with her family. She led a demonstration on November 28, 1942, which put her on the fascist government’s wanted list. On July 4, 1943, she and her brother, Kristaq, were arrested and subsequently brutally tortured. On July 6, they were shot and executed. Berat was appalled by such brutality, and when photos of Margarita’s dead body circulated, citizens became inspired to join the resistance against the fascists. A statue of her was built at the National Martyrs Cemetary of Albania.
Liri Gero was also an anti-fascist hero during WW2. Born in Fier, she had always been part of the resistance against fascist occupation. Liri and 67 other girls from Fier joined the National Liberation Movement on September 14, 1943– this time, they would fight the Nazi occupation. On October 6, 1944, Liri was wounded fighting the Nazis near Lushnje. Nevertheless, she continued to fight until she lost consciousness. When the Nazis found her– a 17-year-old fighter– they became infuriated. They tied her to a tree, covered her in gasoline, and set her on fire. Her heroism earned her the title of People’s Heroine, as well as a school and neighborhood in her name and a monument in one of Fier’s parks.
