AI Gunpla Bullshit

Once again I am bringing this on myself by remaining on Facebook, but I just saw the admin of a Gunpla group I belong to (probably not for much longer though) advertising for a group build using images generated by machine learning. He's yelling at people criticising him for using AI and trashing their builds or mocking them for not posting. The sad thing is the guy does good work, but doesnt see the irony of stealing other artists work to drum up interest in his page.

So now I'm trying to goad him into coming after me as I have posted to the group before and while I am not normally one to engage in internet dick measuring contests, we both submitted work to the same online exhibition and mine placed higher and I really want to drop that on him before he inevitably bans me.

Am I being petty? Yes. But something about seeing good artists use/defend AI feels particularly unpleasant.

#ArtAdventCaledar Day 7. Rui from XLOV. I just bought a set of sable brushes, and this was their maiden drawing. Pleased with how they handle, and hoping I can live up to their quality.

Hubby asked me if I could do a sumi e-style wolf portrait for his Gundam secret Santa. This is what I did :D (the Gundam is Vidar, so the wolf is from the Norse myths he's associated with)

This was the other picture I drew for my son...this is his builder and Elsie done in a more realistic style. Both characters are from My Time at Sandrock.

#Xtober day 12: again to Rui from #XLOV. Not bad for half an hour or so...this is a 5x7 portrait on Strathmore drawing paper.

Chinese Baked Buns (烤包子, Kao Bao Zi) Stuffed with lamb and onion and seasoned with cumin and black pepper, these buns are baked until golden crispy. They look impressive and are so comforting to eat, a perfect snack or light meal by itself.

#Xtober day 11...Rui from XLOV. This is done in water-soluble graphite, which I'm just learning and haven't used a whole lot. I lack control with it, but I like experimenting anyway :)

Yesterday and today's work for #Xtober, spending the month celebrating XLOV as they prepare for their comeback on November 5 :D

#Xtober day two, with Haru, done in yellow-tinted graphite. Which kind of looks like mud :( I wanted to use his representative color, with the graphite back-up, but next time, I'll do it in graphite and highlight afterward. l

Starting Xtober with Wumuti from XLOV. Yes, I couldn't decide which drawing challenge to do, so I'm drawing XLOV. We'll see how long it lasts..hoping all the way through. The challenges usually kick-start my art brain for winter.

Today's project...a little mini painting. This is a golden retriever wizard companion pet from CastNPlay on My Mini Factory. There are a few finishing touches I still want to do, but he needs to rest overnight.

I realized it's been a while since I posted Buddy/Sir, the former neighborhood cat that we officially adopted when he got sick. He is mostly healthy now (his butt sometimes leaks, so the blanket he's on is waterproof), and most importantly, safe.

I may be a little obsessed with XLov. These are a few of the pictures I've done of Rui, and one of Wumuti. All but one are done in graphite. The fourth is done in tinted graphite watercolor.

I finished Eleanor yesterday, and today, posed her and Arthur together. Yes, I'm obsessing over all of the mistakes…but a) they pass the 3-foot rule and b) I've been painting for just over a month. Still learning :)

Note: the miniatures are approximately 72mm scale, and were printed with STL files from digitalextremes. And although I know I have a ways to go to get good...I'm still indescribably happy at the progress I've made :)

New paint came today, and I started working more on Eleanor from Warframe. Hubby printed the Hex...I've painted Arthur and now Eleanor. He'll be painting the rest.
