“Yeah, well, have I mentioned how much I love this side of ya?” He said sincerely. “Mm. She does,” he nodded in agreement. It still made him slightly uncomfortable to be talking with his wife about women he slept with. But if she wasn’t bothered by it, then he could play it cool. “As long as you two stay outta trouble and don’t plot anything ‘gainst me.”

"Baby I would never," she said dryly, stopping to zoom in on a particular ally way with her goggles. "They're just over there. We need to get close, get some info and photos without getting caught. They don't need to know we're onto them." She looked over her shoulder. "I know you're good at being loud, but maybe save it for later, yeah?"

“Oh yeah?” Clint waggled his eyebrows. But now was not the time to get distracted. “Got it,” he nodded and saluted before cracking a smile. “How’s it feel to be back in business?” He prompted. He scanned their surroundings as he kept a fast walking pace.

She glanced over at him with a smile. "Pretty good, actually. Feels good to be doing something worthwhile. Something that matters to me." Bobbi leapt cooly over a gap between rooftops. "I like Jen. She's got a good head on her shoulders."

“Ya think I can’t keep up? C’mon. I was in the circus, Mockingbird.” He flashed her a grin. With that, he followed suit. It was impossible to resist showing off a little so he did a short back flip. It felt like old times but better. “Maybe I can get a little more bang for my buck later,” he teased. “Are you takin’ the lead—”

"Damn straight I am." She looked over her shoulder at him. "Keep reminding me how flexible you are and you might just get what you wish for." Bobbi pulled out her phone and pointed. "Three streets up, two over. There's supposed to be a small meet up tonight. Nothing we need to get involved in just yet, but I've got what we need to get some high res photos."

“Shady drug dealers, huh? My favorite.” Clint gave her a reassuring smile. He patted his stomach, “Guess I am. It’s a food baby. I swear—” Before finishing his sentence, he followed her down the cable to the other rooftop. “I ain’t as out of practice as ya think. Ya missed the great, uh, fireworks act I put on a couple’a nights ago.”

“Gettin’ a little bang for your buck then, huh, sport?” She turned to him, the two of them nose-to-nose as she retracted her cable. “Well, we’ll see if you can keep up, Hawk.” With a grin, she turned and sprinted toward the edge of the building, landing nimbly on the one across from it. “Crime waits for no one, Barton, let’s move!”

“I know it ain’t. You’ve made it clear that you want nothin’ to do with it. S’fine. I’m okay with it.” Clint shrugged. It was true. He was working on accepting it. Maybe she would come around one day or maybe she wouldn’t. “Trust me. I know you don’t need anyone’s help but I sure as hell won’t be able to sleep knowing you’re out here.” Clint kissed her cheek. “So where we headed? Ladies first.”

Bobbi sighed, leaning into him and closing her eyes for a moment before stepping back, grinning. “Yeah,” she said. “Partners. Come on, we have some shady drug dealers to spy on, little bit north of here.” She turned and fired the cable gun, pulling out her baton and swinging it over, hanging on by both sides. “Hope you can keep up. You’re a little outta practice, Hawk.” She pushed off and slid down the cable to the building opposite them.

Clint angled his head to one side. “That’s a nifty thing ya got there.” He smirked. Needless to say, he was impressed. “Now, did ya really think I wasn’t gonna notice?” Then he started to close the distance between them. “Whatever you’re doin’, I want in. I ain’t letting ya do whatever this is alone. Partners, right?”

Of course her husband -- of course Hawkeye -- had noticed. Bobbi had been so caught up in the game of it all, the rooftops and the surveying, that she hadn’t really thought about Clint noticing. She just figured she’d deal with that later, if she ever had to at all.

But later had become now, and she stood up a little straighter, jerking her chin toward him. “This isn’t Avengers business, Clint. It’s mine. And Jen’s, I guess. If you’re worried about me getting hurt, don’t. I’m a big girl, I can handle this on my own.” She dropped her head. “But I guess some company would be alright.”

Clint’s eyes slowly opened at the sound of quiet rustling in the room. For a second, he almost jolted up in fear that someone had infiltrated the room. His heart slowed and his stomach unclenched when he realized it was Bobbi who was sneaking around. It took a great deal of effort to suppress a laugh because he was a little surprised that she thought he wouldn’t notice.

His curiosity was sparked. Frankly, Clint was also a little worried as to what trouble Bobbi might be getting herself into. Clint waited for a bit before climbing out of bed. He quickly got dressed, grabbed his quiver and bow, and walked out of the room. The elevator dinged. He took the stairs.

She glanced around once on the roof, double checking that she was alone. She could do this surveillance in under an hour, no more than that tops, it wasn’t impossible. A quick wind blew across the rooftop and she did what she did every time she was up here and told herself not to look down.

Her old tools had been coming in quite handy, especially the cable gun. The thin material was strong and held a lot of weight and went a good distance. She quickly aimed and fully intended on firing when she heard the door to the stairs slam shut. Spinning around, she found herself standing across the rooftop from Clint and felt her ears burn.

Bobbi slipped quietly from the bed, padding silently across the room and grabbing her things. She’d done this a few times, not too many -- it made her uncomfortable to sneak out on Clint, to think about upsetting the balance of trust in any way. But she had to do this. She wasn’t an Avenger -- this was for her.

Jen had given her some names, a few people to keep an eye on who did their dealings a little more nocturnally than others. She slipped into her suit and grabbed her night vision goggles, tucking her phone into her belt and heading toward the elevator to get to the roof.

Stubborn? Me? Never. [Laughs] C’Mon. I’d beat ya any day, Mrs. Barton. [He leans forward and gives her a kiss]

[she hooks her arm around his neck, drawing out the kiss and sighing into his mouth] You wish, Mr. Barton. You wish.

[shrugs] I mean s’not like I’ve changed my mind. Still think it’s a good idea. But I support ya. No matter what. S’fine. I promise.

You’re very stubborn, Mr. Barton. I wonder which one of us is gonna break first, hmm? [she pushes herself onto the counter, legs swinging under her as she grins over the edge of her coffee cup]

[Peter secures a line of web to the building across the alley, swings out, and then webs back to the other building, feet first into the solar plexus of some hired muscle, just about to recover from Bobbi’s little surprise visit.]

Keep at least one of them conscious, I need to know where they're keeping this garbage they're pushing. [the guy under her feet is still awake and she scowls as she steps on his face with her foot] Go to sleep, dick. And you. [she knows the one trying to run down the alley, he's got connections. she points and shouts:] Web 'em, do something!

[he hiccups, then pats the center of his chest with his fist]  Yeeeah, let’s do this.  [he drops off the balcony wall and gives an exaggerated stretch, then hops up onto the ledge beside Bobbi.]  You need a lift, or does the whole “Mockingbird” thing mean you get a sweet wing rig?

No wings. It's not too far down. Besides. [she stands on the edge and readies herself to leap] I've got a nice squishy drug dealer to break my fall. [she leaps to the fire escape and tucks her legs as she jumps again, feet flying into the chest of one of the men] Evening, boys. [she swings her staff, nailing one in the side of the head]

[Peter checks his wrist for a nonexistent watch, then shoves the last quarter of a well-trimmed hot dog into his mouth.]  ’fought you faid nine-firty?

I did, you're right on time. [she turns to him with a grin] Been trailing these guys for a few days. You ready to get the drop on 'em?

[Smiles] You ain’t so bad yourself, Morse. S’not anyone else I’d want to drag to this tower.

[she scowls] I came willingly. Eventually. [she sips her coffee, leaning against the counter] You’re okay with what I want to do, aren’t you? I mean, I’d probably do it anyway, but...I just. You’ve been pushing the Avengers card a lot, and I know you were upset that I wasn’t up for joining.

[Raises an eyebrow] In a good or bad way?

I’m one of a kind.

You’re a good man. They...were not. [she throws him a quick glance] There was never anyone in my life like you before now, and there won’t ever be again. You’re something special, Barton.

[Pours himself a cup]. Okay. Jus’ making sure. Yeah, okay. Bet they’re hideous.

[she shrugs] They were alright. I didn’t marry any of them, so that should tell you something, at least. They were very different from you.
