I also don’t mind being called Violet but only really when I do rp for murder house or put a rp tag on the post (or if you’re complimenting me about Violet or something like that)

I'm between 16-18 years old, same with name, I'm just iffy of irl friends finding this blog lol

hey!! sorry to randomly ask , i’m pretty new to tumblr and i ended up finding your post about your wlw situationship. some of what you wrote honestly felt really similar to something i’m dealing with, so i hope you don’t mind me asking a question.

you mentioned that you noticed she was struggling with her mental health, including $h, and i was wondering how you noticed and handled that, especially when she started distancing herself. i’m in a really similar situation with someone i used to be close to. they’ve been pulling away, but i’ve also noticed that they’re $hing, and i just don’t know what the right thing to do is. i don’t want to ignore it, but i also don’t want to make things worse.

I am more than willing to give you some advice, I made those posts to help another person and I’ve already had some experience of people sending me messages or inboxes to ask for help for a multitude of reasons.

But yes, she was always a bit sullen and quiet but she was gentle and loved her friends but just as I joined their friend group, I noticed she didn’t eat lunch at all and in general. She used to buy something so her mum would see them pick at the food and throw it away. Sneaky things and nobody questioned it.

Even as a new friend back then, I knew something was wrong with her mental state..

The before she started $h, me and another girl used to walk to and from school together and sometimes she’d randomly ask how we’d choose to k!ll ourselves to which we’d awkwardly laugh it off bc we were unsure of what to say but every time she asked this question (which was frequently enough to be strange) she would say she would sl!t her wrists etc.

That was when I started to notice how twisted her thinking was becoming which as her friend was a worry..

She was very private about it but when it actually came to her $h she didn’t hide it, although I never saw any scars or cvts directly, she always had a white bandage around her left wrist (she’s right handed so that was a giveaway) but I was scarcely covered by a few bracelets (she’s used to stack bracelets like crazy but she started to wear less) so I think this was the indicator of her wanting people to notice but also trying to hide it.

In PE she wouldn’t hide the bandage but she would start to wear a black undershirt and a friend asked her what happened and she said her bracelets chafed her arm which was obviously a lie..

as far as I know, nobody directly got a cry for help so nobody pushed her. Ignored the signs was a better description.

obviously me and her had some..situationship which to this point still doesn’t make sense to even me lol because it was so flawed and confusing. But to me there was absolutely no doubt that it was something. I loved her even when she began hating me which is soul crushing tbh.

By then she was so detached that I couldn’t get through to her when I talked or comforted her. She had put up a wall and I couldn’t get over it.

What we had was gone the day she lied to my face about saying she hated me.

I was angry for me but ultimately sad for her because her behaviour shouldn’t be justified but it was clear she was projecting onto me and there’s nothing I could do.

I did consider telling a teacher etc about her self destructive tendencies but I wasn’t anything to her anymore so I let it go.

My advice is that if you’re still friends (unlike me) the best thing is to confront her over the little things that make her day bad because those little things make the bad thoughts louder as the brain becomes irrational and emotions more erratic. Those little things stack up and weigh them down until they become desperate for relief ($h or worse $u!c!de)

You can push the limits if you think they’d accept the offer to vent to you and eventually find a way to cope better and get help. (Directly confront or indirectly asking them with subtle hints)

If they refuse help and withdraw completely the classic/most typical indicators of $u!c!dal tendencies such as being more emotional like lashing out at people or going completely quiet and looking defeated or sometimes they pretend to be overly happy and you could assume they’re okay but it’s a very high risk their masking the sadness.

Giving away things they used to love or reminiscing on their best memories with those people so they can remind that person of all the good memories they had before they commit.

There are so many mixed signals and some people are more complex with the signs of needing help but not wanting it VS wanting help but not knowing how to ask for it.

If she does convey being a danger to herself then it is officially a necessity to tell an adult or someone responsible to getting her urgent help.

Although she $h rn it can just be a unhealthy coping mechanism to stop her from committing or a desperate cry for help before doing it.

Monitoring this behaviour and asking for advice is the best approach. You’re already doing both which is very good as majority of people do not.

——————————- Remember, it’s not “snitching” to tell someone of her situation because although she might get mad, it’s only because she’s afraid or feels trapped by the choice being made for her. At the end of the day, she will hopefully one day be thankful or realise she needed that push that ultimately saved her life and that you were there for her the whole time.

I wish I could’ve done more for my girl..

I wish you the absolute best of luck and never feel afraid to ask for more help from me or others. Feel free to update me on your situation whenever you need, or however frequently as you would like.

(You can also ask her if she’s unwilling to talk to someone like you then perhaps a professional like a therapist. Schools/doctors/adults/certain mental health websites can all get you set up with a therapist referral program and different, healthier coping mechanisms)

Depending on where you’re located, councillors/therapists are covered by NHS or insurance. If they are under 18 then it’s much more likely that they will get one without payment. 16 or under would almost certainly get it for free especially if you get a referral through a doctor/local GP. Worst case scenario the doctor or therapist makes a wellbeing assessment and makes the decision of needing further help and a specialist hospital/metal ward is called but that is pretty much last resort so don’t worry about that.

like being just visible enough to be barely noticeable, but not enough to be reached for

It all feels too much, like there’s no end and the beginning was only blurred by the torment of which people say is a “necessary part of life”

eventually becoming accustomed to pain to the point where numbness feels like it’s normal

I want to feel free without my only resort being a fatal one

people preach of protection for those who struggle with the same pain but it is plastered as a theoretical rather than a reality
