book review, #4
“Matched” by Ally Condie,
In the Society, officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die. Cassia has always trusted their choices. It’s hardly any price to pay for a long life, the perfect job, the ideal mate. So when her best friend appears on the Matching screen, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is the one…until she sees another face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. Now Cassia is faced with impossible choices: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path no one else has ever dared follow—between perfection and passion.
I really liked this book; I thought the plot-line was really good and the characters were all really likeable, and the love story between Cassia and Ky was so, so sweet!
For some reason, it sort of reminded me of the Hunger Games. I don’t know if it was because of the way Ally Condie wrote it that it made me think of Suzanne Collins’ writing, or if it’s the way the Society controlled and dictated Cassia’s life the way that the Capitol controlled Katniss’ life in a similar-ish way.
Either way, I really did enjoy this book and it was so hard to put it down that I finished it in only a few days, and I find I’m usually the type of person who would take a lot longer to finish a book if I wasn’t really, you know, absorbed in the story and wanting to see what happens next and if they finally kiss yet, etc, etc. So you can tell I genuinely loved this book and I cannot wait to read the second one!
