Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking is a book written by Susan Cain. The book explains how Western culture transformed from a culture of character to a culture of personality in which an "extrovert ideal" dominates and introversion is undervalued and even seen as inferior.   Cain, a self-described introvert, made a passionate talk about the subject (TED 2012) and prepared a delighful animation illustrated by Molly Crabapple that is completely worth watching.

In the Mood for Love Wong Kar-Wai (Hong Kong, 2000)

A stylistic masterpiece. A romance melodrama, as only Wong Kar-Wai could’ve directed, full of grace and sensibility. The movie tells the story of a a married woman (played by Maggie Cheung) and a married man (played by Tony Leung), living in neighbouring apartments, who fall in love while grappling with the infidelities of their spouses whom they discover are involved with each other.

If you never had the chance to see it, take a look of what you’ve missed. The music belongs to Shigeru Umebayashi and is simply sublime.

Waste Land: The transformative power of art

Filmed over nearly three years, this amazing documentary follows brazilian artist Vik Muniz as he journeys to the world’s largest garbage dump in Rio de Janeiro to photograph a band of “catadores”—garbage pickers. His collaboration with them as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage shows us the beauty of the human spirit.
