Krista & Berik: Atlas
It had been such a long week that when this afternoon rolled around, Historia was more than happy to just sit in the park and read her book. While she could have very well sat beside her bedroom window and enjoyed the sun, it was nice to be out and around the people of the town even if they weren’t directly communicating.Â
This was probably one of her favorite things to do, just sit and enjoy the relaxing sound of the suburbs. These boys here playing soccer must be enjoying themselves. Pushing the sounds of the city on the back burner of her mind, Historia inhaled sharply and pried the book open, getting lost within the words.
She heard one of the soccer players calling out to someone but hadn’t really payed enough attention…it probably wasn’t to her so she ignored it. She weaved her fingers through her hair creating a loose braid and fastened it at the end with a small hair tie. Or. It would have been fastened but a loud thud stopped her in her tracks and a loud — ahem, embarrassing — squeal escaped her lips. Looking around, she concluded it was this here soccer ball that had nearly hit her.Â
Historia’s heart rate returned to normal once she realized that this thing wasn’t a threat and she smiled at the one player who’d come up to her.Â
"Oh. Yeah I’m alright! Thank you!" Historia bowed her head slightly and gave the dirt-covered man a smile. "I’m Krista!" She replied, using her alias as opposed to her real name…though she wasn’t sure why she did. It just seemed appropriate. "What about you? What’s yours?"
"Krista…" Berik searched his mind, trying to figure out why her named seemed so familiar to him. "It’s nice to meet you Krista, I’m Berik. Have we met before? Did I deliver pizza to you or ?" He knew it was weird the was he was staring at the girl in such an odd manner. Then it hit him-this was the girl Reiner had been talking to. He had seen a picture of her on his friend’s phone. Now that he knew, Berik wasn’t sure if he should say anything to the girl; he didn’t actually know her, he knew of her.Â
He shoved his hands into his pockets, becoming nervous as he stood in front of the girl. “Do you, by any chance, know a guy by the name of Reiner? He’s tall, pretty muscular, blond?” Berik swallowed hard, waiting for the girl’s response. He was pretty sure the answer was going to be yes, otherwise, he was going to look like a complete nut-job who was harassing a sweet innocent girl sitting on a bench.Â
"I uh well, I should get back to them," he murmured as he took a few awkward steps backwards. His friends on the opposing team weren’t really missing him; he was the only one who played on the soccer team, so whatever team he was on had an advantage. "Unless maybe you want to play with us? I promise I won’t let them shove you to the ground."Â
Krista was surprised when she heard that name. She had hardly spoken to Reiner since their date. That was a while ago and she'd nearly forgotten that instance. "Oh. Y-yeah, we went on a date once." She shrugged awkwardly. "You friends with him?" She wanted to ask if he'd talked about her at all but just meeting this guy...this Berik fellow...that wouldn't have been great first words to exchange.Â
Krista was even more surprised when Berik asked if she wanted to join in the game. She never played soccer and this was hardly the outfit to roughhouse in but hey. It was a good day and she had nothing going on later so why not? "Sure I can play. I mean...if you don't mind having a girl play on your team?" She gave him a weak smile and put her book to the side. Krista was the first to admit she was a pipsqueak and not exactly coordinated.
