For the sake of putting something on this darn site, a quick lil self portrait and a bit of introductions.

Hi, I'm Pup (27, They/Them).

I'm a writer and digital artist. Grew up on the fanfiction.net and deviantart scene, so that's where a lot of my experience comes from. I've kinda always been creating things, be they fanfics or original stories. Amazingly, I never used Tumblr until recently.

My current WIP is a fantasy adventure romance called A Rogue's Fairytale. I plan to share more about it and ironing it out on this blog.

My ask box is open and I'm always up for Tag Games, although I need to grow my pool of people to tag.

Please, by all means, my DMs are open to anybody above the age of 18. Feel free to introduce yourself.

I also love seeing people get excited about their stories and OCs. Heck, I used to be in a creative writing group, so if you have a piece of writing that you need a stranger to look at, I'm happy to be that stranger. I can and will give you constructive feedback if you want any. :)

Some other stuff about me:

I've gone by a few different pseudonyms online since the ye olden days of 2010s dA, but Pup is the one that's stuck. I enjoy TTRPGs and video games in my free time.

What else...? I'm a big fan of fantasy, true crime, and science fiction. I'm always willing to dip my toes into other media as things catch my attention. I also take great pleasure in nitpicking media to understand the mechanics of how tropes work. You'll probably be seeing a lot of that because I have a lot to say and nowhere to go with it.

fanfic writers deserve to be able to do things that will land them on the news without any consequences at least once a month, because imagine being kind enough to let people read your works—that you write for yourself and your own enjoyment—for free (also see my em dash that I refuse to let ai take from me?) and then some entitled asshole thinks they can just say whatever they want.

nobody “talks like chatgpt”. chatgpt talks like human, because it was trained on how human talked and it was trained to mimic how human wrote.

public bookmarks are public. I am begging more people to realize and remember this. anybody, including the writers, can see the comments you leave on your public bookmarks.

this type of comment is the exact reason more and more writers stop sharing their works online. ai witch hunt, speculations and accusations harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more. by leaving this type of comments, you are helping ai destroy the writing community.

You should only write in present tense with extreme caution.

not because it's bad or anything but because if you do it even once you're going to be editing the bits where you shifted tenses out of your writing for the rest of your life

if u write in present tense enough times in a row, you can switch this problem around & get confused when your present-tense narrator is talking abt something that happened in Their past. I recommend this bc it keeps u on ur toes

I've gone through so much in the last while, finding energy to create has been a struggle. But, for once, I'm writing again and writing my original WIP and it just feels so good to be working on it again.

I look forward to the day it's in a state where I can proudly share it.

I don't know if I'm the only one, but does anyone else work on their WIP and just have this intense desire to record reading it aloud and release it that way? I get so hung up on whether it'd be seen as cringy, so I haven't done it, but would there be an audience for that?

Everytime I see this:

I'm convinced that Atem got tired of wearing a school jacket (because of shrimp arms) and forced Yugi to do weightlifting.

The thought of Yugi struggling in gym class and Yami being like "Ho ho, that's cute. Let me handle this, Partner." only to then realize Yugi's body is not strong, is so damn funny to me. Next thing you know, Joey and Honda are walking in on Yami doing planks and pull-ups.

You know, I'm oddly conflicted. On one hand, I adore seeing how people interpret characters, the ways their vision may differ from my own. It's fascinating to speculate what's observation of the character and what is the author bleeding into the characterization. On the other hand, sometimes I stare at a fic and wonder how tf the writer turned a grown ass man into a quibbling middle school girl.

"D-Do you l-l-like me, Jason-Kun??" Dave asked shyly, heat racing to his cheeks as he anxiously twiddled his fingers.

But somehow Dave's, like, 32 with a god damn morgage and a decade long career of ass kicking.

Or when the author wants to push a ship, but instead of considering how these two would reasonably wind up together, the characters instead become two cardboard cutouts running through your basic bitch romance plot. Person A wants to get with Intended Love Interest From Canon, but Person B is heartbroken. And They thry misunderstand and argue and the supporting cast are like "Talk it out" and then Person A realizes their feelings for Person B and they kiss and everything is skittles and poptarts, I guess.

Additionally LibreOffice is free if you don't have money to spare on a word processing program. It's not as sleek as Word, and obviously it won't have AI who wants thay garbage anyway, but it does the important stuff and gives you much the same basic stuff Microsoft Office does.

people using generative ai to write fanfiction for them is CRAZY. stay up until four in the morning hopping back and forth between your pinterest boards, a random synonyms website, and google docs where you’re stuck in the middle of a sentence deciding whether to refer to a character by their name or hair colour as the lord intended.
