Random thought: Illustrations to date
I’m not going after Priya and I don’t plan to, but her illustrations are some of my favorite art, composition, and of candy to date. A lot of the rest of them, candy looks angry, really dopey, boring, or isn’t even in them.
Now before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, I guess I’ll explain a little. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t actually dislike all of the examples above, in fact the expressions in a lot of them are really animated and I love that, but I guess I just like the bit of elegance from the three above. Also, I will be explaining from the perspective of someone who is not wanting to go after any of the date options, so hopefully it’s a pretty neutral, personal interest, critique.
I love the way candy looks in the first one. I also like some of the clothes; I like the shirt in the first one, the headband with stray hair in the second ((Fun Fact: I saw the head band on the candy base in the trailer and I didn’t really like it, but then I saw the illustrations and I love the headband in those! For whatever reason. I think it was because of the stray hairs going on it.)). The black turtle neck is my favorite illustration to date. There’s just something really nice about it. The second one is really elegant, though I don’t really like the romper, myself. The third one, I’ll admit candy looks a bit derpy to me ((It’s that wide eyed look and the mouth, candy’s mouth is starting to look like her mother’s XD)), but it’s made up in the cuteness of how it looks overall and with the interactions between them ((speaking of overall, it looks really nice in the illustration, too.)).
Now to explain the derpy examples. The first one, to me, I just don’t like how candy looks here, and overall the illustration just doesn’t interest me. Now for the second, I’ll have to say, despite just how derpy candy’s face is here, I do love how dynamic and animated it is. It’s nearly perfect for the situation. Even though I complained about how derpy it was when the trailer came out before, it’s kind of grown on me and I like how expressive it is, it reminds me of the expressions youtube thumbnails have sometimes. As for the last one on the derpy row, I actually mostly like how candy looks here, especially with the loose hairs on the headband, but some of her face comes off as derpy to me. I think it’s the way wide eyes look in these illustrations. Those are the ones that are usually very expressive and animated, in their defense.
Now for the angry looking ones, it’s not that I dislike that she’s emoting that way, it’s just that she seems to do it a lot in comparison to how many illustrations there are so far. Now that I think of it candy’s expressions to date: angry/crinkled eyebrows, dazed/spaced-out/awe, and sometimes a simpleton smile. That’s fine, it’s just what I’ve noticed. I do actually love how candy looks in the Hyun illustration with the cool skirt overall thing. Something cool looking about the lighting on her there. The Castiel one is cool sassy, too!
Lastly, I don’t have a problem with the illustrations without candy, it’s just, part of me feels bad for the people who are going after Rayan and Nathaniel. Compared to the other’s they get the most illustrations without candy or candy not really interacting with a chemistry. Also, Alexy and Morgan’s illustration are the only ones that are not with a date/and or candy to current ((Side Note: Daamn, Alexy moves fast, jeez. Am I the only one who feels like their relationship was ultra rushed? Ah well, sometimes people move fast in real life too, but it still comes off as a bit sloppy to me. :/)). It won’t bother me as much when other side characters get more illustrations for themselves, if they do, I assume they will eventually. Hopefully. …probably not.
TLDR; I don’t hate these examples, I just like the three Priya illustrations more.
