itās been a while since i last posted here.
to be honest, i havenāt been doing well mentally.
work has been overwhelming and itās been draining me both physically and emotionally. i feel like im starting to lose myself.
i havenāt done any worship for lord ares in months. i want to start again but im hesitant because it feels like im only reaching out when i need help.
right now, i honestly donāt know what to do anymore.
To be a Hellenic polytheist is more than revering the gods, its living your life in a way which would make them proud and most pleased. Itās a lifestyle, the way we look at the world and the way we feel about it.
Itās so much more than reading the myths and giving offerings; every stranger we greet with hospitality is a gift to the gods, and every bit of knowledge we strive for is a testament of our love for our religion.
Every time we care for ourselves and the world around us, the gods smile.

english is not my native language but is that not .. just a subtle way to say i do want you in the religion?
i still do not understand why some people think this is okay to say to someone who's already in another religion. though do still correct me if I have misunderstood the sentence and i will delete this.
i was just about to ask how to feel connected to your deity again because i haven't had the energy to worship for some time now.
i actually have been feeling a bit anxious because my workplace will have another baby coming in (im a teacher in a preschool! and in charge of the infant room) and i wasn't ready for another since i have been so tired lately, both physically and mentally.
that's why i was so shocked when my boss told me that the baby will come next week instead!
i initially thought about asking for help but didn't because yes- i haven't done any worship for a while and i didn't know how to ask. it feels iffy š„¹ (maybe it's just my anxiety talking.)
im happy lord ares is still looking after me. (and it's just me that feels disconnected when he's always been there.)

i started praying to lord apollo. i don't have a candle for him as this was impromptu and desperation. (side note, i wanted to focus on one deity first before worshipping more.)
i introduced myself and why i reached out and offered singing as an offering for the help.
i do not know if he liked my singing because my throat also hurts.

little rant.
im honestly getting tired of constantly seeing comments 'oh!', 'oh! that's not ..', 'its called greek MYTHology' whenever we talk about the gods and at least one person telling us to find god or will pray for us.
as a beginner, im always excited and happy to see people's relationship with the gods; like their silly conversation/experiences, their worship, their altars. (i have yet to master any divination, so im always envious of those that could read their tarot cards.)
i know i shouldn't read the comment sections but i always want to read them because yes i want to read people's experiences but now it's like- just people arguing that the religion isn't real and our fellow sisters and brothers trying to educate or telling them to just be respectful.
i just hope that one day, people will learn to respect each other's religion. if one doesn't believe it's real, do the research. a quick google would immediately give one an answer. why spend so much time spreading such hatred and disagreement? when it can literally take seconds to google.
the world is already a cruel place. don't be one of the reasons.
also, the gods aren't their myths.
while i (as of right now) only worship gods in the hellenic polytheist pantheon, i personally believe that there is room for every deity. i know this may not be what everyone believes, but this world contains multitudes, and i donāt believe itās possible to say that any practice is āwrongā.

Wanted to do a small dedication to one of my patrons deities (will do one for Lord Hermes soon, I just have worshipped and worked with Lord ArĆŖs longer and wanted to give him a proper digital prayer). As felt bad cause I havenāt prayed a lot as of late (planning to give a coffee offering tomorrow at least.

Please do NOT describe yourself as "Hellenic," when you tell people you worship the Greek gods. Please say Hellenic Polytheist instead. Hellenic means Greek, and describing yourself as just Hellenic is no different than saying you are ethnically Greek.

Dress up like Hermes and go for a damn walk.
Collect random stones you think are cool and put them on your altar.
Put that photo of that cartoon character that reminds you of your deity on your altar.
Make that Minecraft temple to Hekate, domesticate those damn Minecraft wolves for Cerberus.
Make your deities in the sims!
Write soppy melodramatic poetry for Dionysus that no one else will read.
Make self insert fanfics about your favourite Gods and write them all as your best friends. Let them interact with your edgy ocs.
Create an AU where you and your Gods are all characters from your favourite anime.
Record silly little songs for them
Make them paintings that are full of clashing colors and weird forms.
Draw them a fursona
Wear that bright yellow outfit for Apollon.
Put on a dramatic makeup look for Aphrodite.
Call your closest deity that silly little nickname you have for them and let them call you one too.
Share your special interests with your Gods. Design your God as a pokƩmon or a crystal gem, or a sonic character.
Those losers that try to make you feel bad for being passionate will never have what you have.

Thank you for all Zeus support posts ā„ļø everywhere I go, all my mutuals too, they blast Zeus for being an abusive father. I know itās because of the modern books and games thatās depicting Zeus this way. But the misinterpretation and mistreatment still get under my nerves.
When it comes to judging Zeus, I noticed ethnocentrism is the biggest problem.
A lot of people judge the ancient world based on their own modern culture and what they fail to realize is that ethnocentrism is the same logic white settlers used against Native Americans. It's the same logic they used when they were kidnapping people from Africa to bring as slaves. It's the same logic used to justify destroying cultures and appropriating them. āWe are helping the savages because they don't know any better.ā This is the problem when judging a culture based solely on one's own culture. You kill the culture. You force it to follow your rules instead of studying it based on its own terms to better understand why it developed the way it did.
Zeus is a keystone part of the religion and I will always do my best to explain his importance.
I will always do my best to discourage ethnocentric talking points when people try to put him down because they don't realize they are using the same logic colonizers used against my people and every POC culture in history. They don't realize they are essentially calling the ancient Greeks āsavagesā in the same way white settlers called the same POC people they were killing while stealing their land and resources.
Zeus is the main figure in the Ancient Hellenic religion.
Everyone else is a part of his court but as the king of the gods, his part in the religion is essential and a key component of it is Xenia, hospitality.
When you start to judge the ancient Greek culture based on its own rules you will see that Zeus is order, that's why the theogony starts with chaos, in order to show how Zeus turned chaos into order. When you start to judge the ancient culture based on its own rules you will see that people used Zeus to justify their ancestry so of course he will have human children because, as the king of the gods, the ancient Greeks believed Zeus appointed kings via birthright because monarchies are by birthright. (He can't have them solely with Hera or they will just be gods, he needs to have them with a human to create demigods).
The idea behind him raping women stems from the misunderstanding of what was defined as rape in the ancient world. No matter the age or how willing they were, women back then were not able to consent because they were not in charge of their own lives. The consent needed to come from their fathers/husbands/whatever man was in charge, that's why it's often translated as rape, because there was no consent given by the men in charge because oftentimes they didn't know the child was a demigod until they were older and started showing signs of being different than other humans.
Just like how we have people who compete in the Olympics today, or people that are very talented or gifted, there were a lot of people back then who were also extraordinary humans and instead of thinking āwow, humans can be incredible,ā the ancient Greeks believed an extraordinary human was the secret love child of a human and a god, depending on their specialty and which god that fell under, like Alexander the Great who was thought to be the son of Zeus, or Pythagoras (inventor of the Pythagorean theorem) who was thought to be the son of Apollo.
It's okay to acknowledge ancient views were different from modern views and progress for women has changed over time because these are stories that are older than the literal Bible so of course progress will happen and the ancient and modern world will be very different. But it's never okay to judge an ancient culture using the same logic that was used to destroy cultures and enslave people.
I defend Zeus because I do my best to destroy ethnocentric views whenever they pop up.
This is why research is so important and why I try to provide it as often as I can because once you start judging the culture based on its own laws and actual rules, you'll find that:

I saw a post about someoneās āhot takesā on the gods. And it was tagged in Hellenic Polytheism and such-
And just boldly claimed Lord Poseidon is a terrible person and King Zeus is worse? Like hello? Are we following the same religion?
Just a reminder, you donāt pick and choose what gods are āgood.ā You donāt get to decide that gods are ok or not to worship based on their portrayal in myth. The gods are not their myths. Myths were written by opinionated/biased people who intended to explain the unexplained at the time. Myths are metaphors. Myths are *myths.*
Of course there is some information and lessons that we can draw from myths but our entire religion is not centered around myth literalism like other religions are such as Christianity.
The gods are not bad. They arenāt assholes or terrible people. They are Gods and Goddesses. They are the (I donāt wanna say personification but I canāt think of a better way to phrase it) personification and guardians of nature and life and knowledge and all of the beautiful things we deal with in everyday life. Theyāre not big story time villains that you get to write headcanons on.
Please, please research our religion and understand mythic literalism and why itās not what the religion is founded on. Take the time to actually learn and understand that the gods are not their myths. Theyāre so much more than that, and they donāt mean any ill will on their followers unless youāve terribly wronged them or someone else in an incomprehensible way.
Iām sorry for the long post but it upsets me so much to see people calling gods that are genuinely so kind and have helped me and others through so much assholes when they are anything but that.
the other day, i was cleaning up lord ares' altar. at first i was just cleaning the altar silently because i still feel shy around him but then i started chatting with lord ares about the rocks origins that i gave him (my eldest sister travels a lot and she knows i like rocks and she gives me rocks from every country she visited).
for the first time, i talked to lord ares a lot and it made me happy because i always worry about our kharis. how could i deepen our relationship if i couldn't have a two way conversation with lord ares? im still learning the tarot and i guess my anxiety also factors into it but i don't know how to trust my intuition.
honestly, i kinda feel like an imposter in this lovely religion but that's another post for another day.
but yes! i talked to him about rocks, stickers, cute charms, and i also started talking to him about love and deep space .. ;u; because i showed him my rafayel keychain. then! i talked about sylus and how cool his first appearance video and even showed lord ares.
something embarrassing happened when i was praying to lord ares the other day-
im lactose intolerant and i had milk before praying.
so basically i was like, "good evening lord ares, iā" (this wasn't the exact words because i forgot how it happened but usually after praying, I would tell him about my day and hoped he had a nice day as well, etc.)
i just doubled over and groaned in pain because i felt a sharp pain in my tummy.
honestly that day was a blur but the embarrassment i felt still haunts me and i apologized to lord ares so much that day. š„¹
