ok i just got this thought out of nowhere but blog divers (people who scroll through a blog and reblog things that were posted YEARS AGO) are actually a super important part of the tumblr ecosystem

With people going inactive and deactivating, a lot of classic tumblr posts and also missed gems get lost because those connections get broken. Even on my own blog I forget about posts I made until I see someone in my activity reblog one of them- which then inspires me to reblog it myself because it was a good post and I want my new followers to see

do not feel bad about diving through someone's blog and reblogging shit from years ago, it keeps dashboards alive

Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle is fantastic. I loved the way it was written and all the references to different pop culture, but the ending was my favourite part by far. I won't spoil anything, but it felt empowering and inspiring. My favourite thing about Chuck Tingle is that you can tell he puts so much love and care into what he writes, and I really felt that with this book. As an aroace, I am so happy that I have Tara as representation because she's amazing

glad you enjoy buckaroo LOVE IS REAL. saw this post and thought it would be good opportunity to talk about character of TARA in BURY YOUR GAYS just a little bit (not too much to avoid spoilers but here goes)

i think TARA ITO is probably my favorite character to write i just love her, and her inclusion in BURY YOUR GAYS is very important to me

as a bisexual buckaroo in a heteronormative presenting relationship there is a lot of SIDE EYEING that tends to happen in the queer community. a sort of 'is this REALLY queer enough'? vibe driftin through the air. i think asexual and aromantic buckaroos get this same SIDE EYE, and because of this i have always felt STRONG KINSHIP with my ace/aro buds. it is like when your riding a handsome sentient motorcycle down the lane and everyone else you pass on their handsome motorcycles gives you a KNOWING NOD

i will also say that when i started writing ASEXUAL TINGLERS at the request of ace buckaroos, i did a lot of talkin and research and sending messages and EVERYONE I TALKED TO WAS SO WELCOMING AND KIND and so that also very much endeared me to the ace/aro community. ALL THE WHILE there were some folks online trash talkin ace buds and trying to gatekeep them from 'valid queerness'

so when writing BURY YOUR GAYS it was VERY INTENTIONAL for me to create a story arc with an ace hero who is not the usual ace stereotype of quiet and silent and stoic. and also i wanted their asexuality to ACTUALLY MOVE THE STORY. it is not just tossing on a label for no reason, it is part of EVERYTHING that makes them special.

but MOSTLY i wanted to make a statement in BURY YOUR GAYS that asexuals ARE IMPORTANT IN QUEER SPACES. that your queerness is VALID AND REAL. to have a hero that will CRASH THROUGH THE GATE IN A BLAST OF ASEXUAL RADIANCE.

so tara ito is basically a tribute to all the ace buds that have trotted along beside me in the tingleverse all these years.

anyway glad you enjoyed. bury your gays is out now GET IT WHILE ITS HOT

Genuinely, do yall just not have imagination?? Or not understand figurative language??? Also eyes do literally darken and soften have you not lived a life??? How do you read with no imagination? Is this how you get through so many books in one month - you simply don’t take the time the understand the words as they are read?

I have been so confused by this discourse. I gobbled up the 90s fantasy doorstoppers and these sorts of expressions were such mainstays that they've never tripped me up.

I remember a reader was annoyed by my use of the phrase "the column of her throat" once and I suddenly realised not everyone reads copious amounts of fanfic or historical romance growing up, either. I always loved that phrase: "column of [her/his/their] throat." It makes you imagine marble smoothness. Annoying if overused, sure, but a well-placed one is evocative.

They're simply shorthand for various creative expressions or nice images. Darkened: dangerous or horny. Softened: fondness, vulnerability. Snarled: animalistic anger (v. useful if you're writing a dragon character in human form). Writers need to have physical reactions and emotional beats for rhythm, pace, and flow, no? If you say the emotions too straightforwardly, the writer gets dinged for "telling, not showing."

Maybe a higher percentage of the population than I thought has aphantasia? Or have reading tastes really changed that much in the last few years?
