How perfect is it that Magnus decides to take Alexander's surname? to unite it with his own, making it something unique?

Now, I'm not up to date with the books, but from what I gathered Alexander is it for Magnus. Before Alec, Magnus never married, never even bothered to imagine a forever with someone. Alec, in his simplicity and contradictions, has managed to tear down and entirely destroy that wall that had been up for centuries. And while Magnus desperately wants to hope for their forever, desperately wants it, he knows how it is going to end. He knows Alexander is going to pass someday and what he decides to do?

He takes is surname.

I can very well imagine Magnus never removing their wedding ring, even after Alec's passing, which would be a declaration on itself. But the surname?

He is not only saying "oh, he was my love, we were married once". He is incorporating him in his identity. We know how important identity is for a warlock, they usually choose their names for themselves. And Magnus is choosing to making Alec part of it, part of himself.

In a couple of centuries, when the present will only be a chapter in the book of history, Magnus still be Magnus Lightwood-Bane. He would still be Magnus Bane, but he would still be declaring, centuries from now, that he loved a shadowhunter once. That there's a part of him that still will be loving that shadowhunter. That he will probably never stop.

I don't ever want another love.

I’m telling this story again b/c fuck it but anyways I was playing D&D and one of my friends went “brown bear brown bear what do you see” and on cue three of us turn to him and like, death metal screech “ALLLL”.

The dude goes completely pale faced. I saw true horror in his eyes.

the way some people are talking about the fires in LA is really fucking gross.

people understand it’s not just rich celebrities who are losing their homes, right?

it’s also working-class families who have lived in their homes/neighborhoods for generations. it’s people who had their fire insurance canceled last month and just lost every single thing they own. and guess what? they won’t be able to afford to rebuild their homes or replace their belongings.

there is also an untold number of unhoused people who are being seriously impacted right now, either by the fires themselves or from the hazardous air and weather conditions that have been occurring.

so yeah some ultra-rich celebrities have been affected by these fires, but a lot of working-class people and vulnerable populations just lost everything.

it costs nothing to have some fucking empathy.

Do people understand that LA is diverse as fuck? Do they understand that the Palisades is not just celebrities but middle class families who aren't just white? Do they understand that the problem is the news media thinking that you only care about celebrities (because a lot of you do) which is why they're framing this story like this?

Do people understand that the area the Eaton fire completely destroyed is historically black and was a refuge for people escaping the Jim Crow south? That it was very much a middle and working class neighborhood with a long-standing history?

What if people dug real deep just for one second and found their humanity in a time of crisis especially while these fires are still going, instead of using a LITERAL NIGHTMARISH TRAGEDY as their personal posturing fodder. No one thinks you're a good person for shitting on a natural disaster, no matter how much you justify it with your tankie politics. They just don't want to say it out loud to you because you're so filled with hatred and selfishness that they know it's both pointless and they don't want to deal with your self righteousness being directed at them.

Also 5 people died in the Palisades fire as assessed so far, and frankly I don't think it's helpful to apply identity politics to this kind of devastation. The point is that fire doesn't care. This was 1000% a climate disaster. This is climate change. It doesn't care about your identity politics. It doesn't care if you're rich or poor or privileged or marginalized. We're not going to make any headway in fixing it if we pick and choose who we care about.
