              Lia stares. It kind of feels like all she can do at the moment. She has one hand halfway between her bowl of popcorn and her mouth and the other frozen with the TV remote, practically in awe — awe of how Jordan can start a conversation  ( is it? )  pretty much all by herself. Not that Lia hasn’t been on the other end of this kind of thing  ( go on ... ask her about SCTV and SNL )  , but it’s always ... fascinating to watch.

              Finally, she eats the pieces of popcorn she has in her hand and takes the bowl from her lap, setting it between them once again.  “ ... Did the movie also throw rocks through your window, Jordan? ”  She snorts, smiling a little bit, while she continues to scroll. Because that’s what they were doing weren’t they — looking for a movie to watch when Lia so unfortunately happened to scroll over the offender for the night :  ‘ the 2004 Joel Schumacher take on The Phantom of the Opera ’  .  “ Look, my condolences on the movie and I’m very sorry Netflix brought it up, ”  she says, taking a pause afterwards.  “ ... But now I really just want to turn it on. ”  And before Jordan can stop her, Lia clicks back to find the movie, immediately turning it on.

had thoughts out of nowhere about egon maybe not realizing or just not knowing how much his absence in her life hurt callie. when she was young, he would send birthday gifts and cards. he was doing what he thought was right to express his affection and love for his daughter when they didn’t live in the same place. but then callie and the kids show up at his farmhouse after his death and he’s still ... there. and he’s just watching and listening to how hurt callie sounds every time she mentions him and/or talks about hating him. and it’s why he looks so ashamed and apologetic at the end of the movie. and then relieved when callie hugs him.

egon’s parents were both academics and it’s decently safe to say eccentricity runs in the family. thus their non-belief in toys, apparently. they practiced less conventional parenting techniques, favoring early “textbook” learning versus more common things to aid neurological development and motor functions (like toys). so on one hand, egon and his penchant for learning and academics was well-fed and encouraged by his parents, but on the other he certainly missed out on some things, like developing better social skills. plus, they had rather high standards. luckily, egon had little trouble meeting their standards, but the pressure was there. egon doesn’t resent his parents — at least not more than any other person would resent their parents. he does understand they raised him under unconventional methods, and that he may have missed out on something more “pleasant” (note his observation that oscar’s playroom was “very cheerful”), but he’s fairly happy with where he’s at in his adult life. shortcomings are to be expected in professional life especially, but he’s happy with how much he’s been able to accomplish — and he’ll always credit himself with that (he has quite the healthy ego), but he also thinks his parents contributed to that in their own ways.
