The Philosophy of Everything

My tumblr will still be dedicated to music, but I wanted to share a new writing project I’ve recently launched called The Philosophy of Everything (http://www.thephilosophyofeverything.com). I’ve been completely taken by philosophy (particularly that of the stoic variety) for some time now, and I’ve decided to pair my passion for philosophy and love for writing in this format. 

I’ll be writing regularly on the utilization of a practical philosophical mindset in every facet of life, and I’d like to welcome you on that journey!

Friends, I beg you. Don’t be late on this. “Three Thirty” from the not-for-much-longer unknown Eighty Ninety has consumed my eardrums for days now. The blatant genre-bending is nothing short of perfectly executed. Indie acoustic-pop, electro-Americana.... It’s nostalgic, enveloping, relatable. All of the words, all of the descriptors. It’s everything. 

Eighty Ninety, whoever and wherever you are, GIVE US MORE MUSIC. Please.

When you feel like you experience something different each time you listen to a song, it has timeless potential. I typically reserve such accolades for songs that are truly unique, resonant, sonically executed to perfection... And well, Troye Sivan’s “Youth” hits those marks. It elevates AND retains depth--a difficult balance to achieve in the electro-pop genre that he is so skillfully disrupting.

I’m now going to use his lyrics to describe exactly how I feel about his musical sense- “...a truth so loud you can’t ignore.”

Other album favorites include: Wild, Suburbia, Lost Boy

The dark texture. The distortions. The everything. San Holo has paired up with Yellow Claw to bring us something completely unique, and completely addicting. On repeat.

Ladies & gentlemen, prepare your ears. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of Bishop yet, because soon enough you won’t be able to stop hearing about her. I guarantee it. With “River,” Bishop gives us something we didn’t even REALIZE we were waiting for. Richly rhythmic. Sonic perfection. 

Mark my words- Bishop will be for 2016 what Lorde was 2013/14. She’s gonna rock us like a river.

Everything about this track has me raving. It’s been a while since I’ve heard an EDM song so good that I’ve genuinely wanted to cry. From the tantalizing sonic atmosphere to the addictive high-toned synth beats... San Holo has blessed us.

 “Can’t Forget You” ...our sentiments exactly.

These last few years have held some of the most fulfilling moments we’ve had yet… as people, as friends, and as a band. The Self-Titled era was one that we knew would be important for us but also one we’d eventually have to move on from. In moving forward, there is growth, pain, and change… and sometimes the change is not at all what you hoped for. We’ve written and re-written this countless times and there’s just not a good way to put it… Jeremy is no longer going to be in the band with us. To be honest, this has been really painful. After taking time to consider how to move forward, we ultimately found that we really do believe Paramore can and should continue on. And so we will.

We’re really thankful for the people who have helped see us through hard times before and what we’ve discovered is that those people are just as much a part of this as we will ever be. We’re hopeful for Paramore’s future and we’re also excited for what Jeremy’s going to do next. Thank you all for your support and your belief in us. It’s kept us going. We will see some of you really soon on Parahoy. If you’re not coming on the cruise, we will still see you in 2016.

This this this this this. If you haven’t heard of EDEN yet, prepare your ears for something special. I have Pierce Fulton to thank for his incredible remix of Eden’s “Nocturne,” and for thus introducing me to one my favorite rising EDM artists. 

This tantalizing cover of Billie Jean is nothing short of genius execution. From the lazy charm of his vocals, to the perfectly processed production, this track is built to perfection. Enjoy.

The latest from one of my favorite EDM acts, Candyland. Chill groove with a nice build and a beat MADE for the dance floor. It’s on repeat. Enjoy.

Simply put, Zedd outdid himself with this track off of his latest True Colors album. Something about “Papercut” is addictingly authentic; be it in the downtempo atmosphere, the warmth of Troye Sivan’s vocals, or the overall piano-synth driven musicality of it. Whatever it is, it’s working.

Another simply and perfectly crafted song from the atmospheric wonder, Jaymes Young. This time he teams up with soon-to-be utter breakout Phoebe Ryan for a tune that echoes painfully honest, introspective honesty. 

Equal parts good and gut-wrenching, vocally and rhythmically addicting.

I’m not sure of the last time a song made me this way. This addicting track from the unknown wonder called Jarryd James is so good that it’s borderline wrong. The lyrics, the atmosphere, the desperate nostalgia in the vocals...

Just listen--you’ll get it. Words escape me at this point.

Mumford & Sons slay the writing game yet again with their third studio release, Wilder Mind. From beginning to end, this album is pure modern rock perfection--proving that trading out the banjo for a drum kit was a seamless, sensical progression.

The album resounds of atmospheric, guitar-driven melodies, with each song being its own melancholic, freeing revelation. Marcus Mumford’s vocals are just the icing on this perfectly crafted cake--rugged and passionate with just the right amount of polish. 

As a longtime Mumford fan (since the days of the masterpiece that was Sigh No More), I could not be more pleased with what the band has given us today. It’s one of those albums you don’t stop getting lost in, discovering something new with each listen--a too-soon rare and beautiful thing.

Favorite Tracks: All. But particularly.. Tomkins Square Park, Believe, Wilder Mind, Smoke, Snake Eyes, Cold Arms

Absolutely, positively obsessed with this collaborative masterpiece from Avicii and Nicky Romero. Tantalizing electronics, ethereal vocals, subtle synth build-ups... A recipe for EDM gold. Good job, fellas.

Been meaning to post this one for a few months now... But better late than never. I regularly indulge in this gem off of Brooke Fraser's new album, Brutal Romantic. Atmospheric production and lyrics that echo freedom. Enjoy.

I've never been a HUGE Ariana Grande fan, but a beautiful song is a beautiful song. The girl deserves PROPS for creating such an undeniably engaging, heartfelt piece of art.

Just, try not to cry.
