hi! I'm lizzie and I am not chronically online but I thought it would be nice to make an intro post so people know what I like

can you tell I'm not chronically online?

interests/favs: figure skating, american politics, musical theater, lizzy mcalpine, abi carter, history, anything related to the jfk assassination (I know it's randomly niche), law and scotus

fandoms: marvel (mainly thunderbolts and daredevil), assassins (the sondheim musical), the naturals series, the west wing, sweeney todd, next to normal, hannibal (rarely, but sometimes), and more I'm probably forgetting

favorite books: 11/22/63 by Stephen King, Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan, The Buffalo Buffalo Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones, Your Blood My Bones by Kelly Andrew, And They Called It Camelot by Stephanie Marie Thornton, Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll, and To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee (i would give my goodreads account by I don't want to dox myself)

do I write fanfiction? sometimes, I'm currently in the process of getting an AO3 account!

do you write original fiction? YES but I don't have any place to share it :(

so I was thinking about the Scottish Play like all theater kids do at one point

and it reminded me of how my school did Brigadoon a couple years ago and how everyone called it BrigaDOOM because it was literally a cursed production for everyone other than the two leads

so I have to ask, is everything Scottish just cursed in theatre?

note. I have accidentally said the name of the play outside of a theater before opening night and everything went fine, but that could have been the outlier, not the rule? also I'm not superstitious but I know others are so I will not be typing out the name to save my soul from theatre hell

i'm like brand new to this fandom but I've loved this musical for much much longer alone so I have some thoughts

like I know a lot of people originally didn't (and probably still don't) like something just broke. but I like the fact that it gives the audience a chance to breathe and have the show reflect back on us

we are the housewife. that seems obvious but it can be easy to forget when you're empathizing with eight (and at the end, nine) assassins for ninety-some minutes. but this song reminds of how tragedy actually feels.

now I was not alive for any of the assassinations depicted ofc but there's other events (like I know 9/11 is a really big one to list in the modern age) that i was also not a witness to. but I understand the pain through sondheim's music.

and this understanding of pain and suffering and loss does not ruin the tension strung through the musical. at the end of the song, we as an audience are immediately thrown back into the carnival. our moment of peace is gone, like it barely existed.

so yes, I am thinking about housewife assassins and will be for a while. I have many other thoughts on this wonderful amazing and partially insane show that I could type for hours.

but that's besides the point

this is lovely art for a lovely song :)

Now I'm not an expert of figure skating but...

Chock and Bates were robbed of their gold medal. Like please tell me how Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron were better than them.

You can't.

I don't see Chock and Bates kicking each other with their skates, do you?

Now I know I'm biased as an American, but the judges won't admit that they were too.
