What do you think of the way Skate is written in s5?
It used to make me angry bc it was a blatant retcon of how things went gone down in s4.
ie: Kate was going to leave Sawyer on that island and never look back, him being on the chopper is purely circumstantial. So I never understood the whole “I had a chance with her…” thing, because she had already rejected him by that point.
Anyways, now I’m like… I don’t really care because much like everything else about skate, it’s dialogue contained into one episode with absolutely no follow through on anything.
And I do think there’s an interesting perspective to be explored here form Kate’s POV of ‘what if.’
Like what if she had stayed with Sawyer, would she have been happier? Would the relationship have crashed and burned like it did with Jack? What would’ve happened to Aaron? Would he have been better off? Would Jack have been better off?
Ofc, the writers keep it vague as if to keep the possibility of Skate alive and not write that storyline for what it is; Kate being depressed that the life she built and the people she built them with are gone. And wondering if Sawyer would have lead down a path of less heartbreak, seeing as how sawyer was able to thrive on the island.
And tbf, I do think maybe the writers were veering towards a skate endgame but were never fully decided because a lot of the attempts to reconstruct skate are very half-assed.
