watched nolan's odyssey and i usually keep my reviews pretty short, so here goes

is it a good movie? neither yes nor no. it depends on the person.

if you're in it for a good experience and a beautiful movie, then you will enjoy it a lot.

if you're in it for historical/cultural accuracy and faithfulness to the original book, then you will NOT enjoy it.

i think we should stop expecting any adaptation to be 100 percent accurate at all times. you are free to criticise the movie for a myriad of reasons and it should be criticised. it's a giant movie from a famous director, there are high expectations that he has to reach.

in the end, that was a white man directing a movie about a culture and history he knows too little about to truly comprehend. it's a very pretty movie, with beautiful imagery, awesome effects, great choreography, and camera work. but it's not a good adaptation. don't expect it to be.

What do you think of the way Skate is written in s5?

It used to make me angry bc it was a blatant retcon of how things went gone down in s4.

ie: Kate was going to leave Sawyer on that island and never look back, him being on the chopper is purely circumstantial. So I never understood the whole “I had a chance with her…” thing, because she had already rejected him by that point.

Anyways, now I’m like… I don’t really care because much like everything else about skate, it’s dialogue contained into one episode with absolutely no follow through on anything.

And I do think there’s an interesting perspective to be explored here form Kate’s POV of ‘what if.’

Like what if she had stayed with Sawyer, would she have been happier? Would the relationship have crashed and burned like it did with Jack? What would’ve happened to Aaron? Would he have been better off? Would Jack have been better off?

Ofc, the writers keep it vague as if to keep the possibility of Skate alive and not write that storyline for what it is; Kate being depressed that the life she built and the people she built them with are gone. And wondering if Sawyer would have lead down a path of less heartbreak, seeing as how sawyer was able to thrive on the island.

And tbf, I do think maybe the writers were veering towards a skate endgame but were never fully decided because a lot of the attempts to reconstruct skate are very half-assed.

But yeah.

A Skate endgame would have never worked . . . especially on the heels of Juliet's death. And many tend to forget that Kate wasn't concerned about Sawyer's fate, when Locke had paid her a visit in Los Angeles. She was too busy being angry and bitter over her breakup with Jack to even care. And despite the breakup, she still maintained a photo of herself, Aaron and Jack on her living room mantlepiece. This alone had informed me that it was always about Jack . . . as far as Kate was concerned.

Odysseus' ship is a Viking longship. Telemachus is wearing a shirt and pants. Agamemnon is beardless and has MF DOOM's helmet. The Trojans used brutalist architecture. There is no color to be found in any costume or on any set. Christopher Nolan deserves to be gored and trampled by a large mammal.

I have never come across anything so damn stupid in my life. Sean Connery and Harrison Ford were roughly 12 years apart. Yet, they had portrayed father and son in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". I don't recall anyone complaining about this.

Wow! I can't believe it. I was a big fan of "Emergency" when I was a kid. I even saw Randolph Mantooth in person in Glendale, nearly 2 decades ago. RIP Mr. Mantooth.

You can bet the Sussexes will not be getting an invitation to the coronation of King William V. My guess is the new monarch will act swiftly to create a smaller Royal family, cutting Harry and his two children out of the line of succession altogether. And so say all of us. Archie and Lilibet are essentially Americans with no knowledge of this nation. Frankly, it is insulting that they carry British titles which are all about cachet untethered to duty. No wonder Harry is now making a last-ditch attempt to re-ingratiate himself with Papa – tempting him with access to his own grandchildren to protect his inheritance.

There’s only one person to blame for this bitter state of affairs. An angry boy who choked on his silver spoon, deserted his responsibilities, trashed the monarchy, and railed against the invasion of his privacy, yet was perfectly happy to invade the privacy of his nearest and dearest for money. “S’not fair!”

Oh, I think you’ll find people think it’s perfectly fair. The British are no longer wild about Harry.

The way James Gunn assassinated Rick's character, making him a hypocrite after how self-righteous he was in the past (granted, that was in comparison to murderers and violent thieves) by having him cheat on June — not only once, but in an active affair — just so he could further ruin Sucide Squad (2016) and get cucked by his wife on-screen...

I hope the Supergirl movie isn't doing as well as expected for the sole reason that we're all tired and suspicious of a grown man making young women characters with a "strong but loves to get drunk/party" persona like he's getting paid to be hard behind the camera. We all remember Whedon's crimes. We lived through Dr. Luke doing that and worse to a real woman.

What makes this instance extra suspicious is not only Gunn's consistent misogyny but his apparent forgiven past actions of making gross SA comments involving small children and women on twitter. That was swept away awfully fast just because he deleted them years later ("it was a joke, bro") and went silent for like 8mos. He was rewarded with more studio contracts.

But, sadly, i'm gonna guess the movie isn't doing as well for other reasons since i seem to be the only one i know of that still cares about all that.
