“You don’t give yourself enough credit. You’re like,” Kara interrupted herself with a nervous laugh as she looked away, biting her lip. “The smartest person I know, Lena.”

Sometimes Kara was jealous of Lena’s intelligence and drive, but mostly she was just really, really gay. Not that she’d ever admit that fact. “And my best friend. I can’t let my best friend put herself down!”

What she couldn’t do was keep calling Lena her best friend. Lena was her best friend, but she wished they could be more. But Lena wasn’t into her like that and Kara would keep calling her her best friend. It was what they were and probably what they always would be. She had to be okay with that.

There’s that horrible set of words again. Best friend. It’s all they ever seem to say to each other. “What are friends for?” “That’s what best friends do.” Lena wishes she had the courage to make it stop. To change friends into something more. But she doesn’t. She can’t. Kara doesn’t feel the same way about her. If she does, she would have noticed by now.

Lena sighs and leans back on the couch. They are having a quiet night in at Kara’s apartment. She takes a sip from her wine glass. “You are too nice to me, Kara. Everyone has shortcomings. I’m just voicing mine.”

Have I forgiven Supergirl for erasing all of Lena’s hard work rebuilding L-Corp and instead dropping her right back into the hands of her abuser?

not to acknowledge supergirl season 5’s existence but like I truly can’t get over how they managed to completely destroy lenas character and undo three seasons worth of development for a singular drop of drama that wasn’t even halfway Interesting... like they had the opportunity to explore lenas emotional state after lex died or have kara acknowledge the role she played in the kryptonite fight or how literally all of the superfriends were complicit and lied to lena for years but they literally did none of that.. like they’ve made a lot of terrible decisions this season but framing this conflict as a petty “but you lied to me!!” fight then turning lena into someone who’s fine w mind control overnight and shoving her back into a cycle of manipulation with her abusive brother is definitely at the top
