Had an idea once upon a time of a not really bridgerton but kinda bridgerton buddie AU; and like Maddie and Eddie were set to marry but obviously didn’t really want to. The whole thing was about duty vs love you know, like Maddie wanted to be with Chimney but her duty was to go with Eddie; and Eddie wanted a very different Buckley who was just so infuriating(he really wanted him :D) who also yearned for him. Buck wasn’t like a copy of Kate in bridgerton because he was very much against the arranged union between Maddie and Eddie, for him his sister deserved someone who would love her and not someone who would “settle” for her because of bullshit rules or whatever.
I’m never going to write it but I did have one of the scene in my mind that was basically that one scene between George and Charlotte in Queen Charlotte and I do not want to keep them in my notes app. It’s so cheesy and a first draft and a bit cringey and I love it.
Eddie paced in the bedroom, looking anywhere but at Buck. The younger man was starting to lose patience, he has come for answers and by god he was going to get them.
“You must leave Buck.”, Eddie whispered, ruffling his hair.
“I told you I would stay! I meant it Eddie, I will not walk out of here until you tell me you don’t love me!”
“Love does not matter here!”
“Who said that?”, Buck huffed. He stepped forward, hoping to get closer to Eddie but the man took a step back, eyes stuck on the floor. “Eddie.”
“I am sick Buck. I-. Buck. Evan. I’m not well-”
“Eddie I don’t-”
Eddie’s eyes snapped to Buck’s and suddenly, in two quick strides, he found himself close to the other man.
“My mind is not right Evan!”, he shouted, “I confuse past and present, I have left my soul on the battlefield, I am drenched in the blood of other men! How can you bear to look me in the eyes.”
“Eddie.”, Buck tried to interrupt in vain.
“My sins…Evan, how can I touch you, how can I hold you when I know that I am this”, he gestured toward himself, “this horrible mess. How can I be with you when I know that all I will do is drag you down with me, that-”
“Enough!”, Buck yelled, “Eddie! If you cannot bear the weight of your sins then I will carry them with you! If you cannot reach the gardens of Eden then I will stand with you in the pits of hell! You are unwell? Fine then, so am I! I do not care if you believe yourself to be undeserving of me! Do you love me?!”
“I love you! I- I have loved you ever since I met you, even after you were adamant to defy me. I-I love you.”
“Then stay with me! Refuse this treacherous union with my sister, cease this farce Eddie and let me love you back!”
