Ethos

My Homepage alongside the bottom part of every page in the site will include my name to show the credibility that I was who made the site, my credibility will be aided by explaining that I am a current student in RWS 1302 and that I have taken it with Audrey as well.

Pathos

During all of the self-reflections they will contain some sense of pathos due to me explaining how I felt or some of the difficulties that were experienced when doing such assignments

Logos

This will be covered up through the use of quotes, graphs and relevant facts, alongside that my writing will have a much formal approach and most of it will be in 3rd person if possible, I will also include a fair use statement

Section C - Design

Ethos

By using elements in such a way that can give off a professional look I will acquire this, I will also try to keep an emphasis on my sources and give them a way to be easily identifiable in order to prove the credibility of my claims

Pathos

I will apply pathos by making the site visually appealing and by making the text font choices in such a way that they fit they message that is trying to be conveyed in addition the use of background colors could be used so that It can help set a tone for the specific part of the site.

I will apply this by using facts and quotes that are easily identifiable when I refer to them

Section B: As a writer! 

In order to connect with the audience, the writer must provide information with the use of ethos, pathos, and logos. This will insure that the audience not only is reading the information, but understanding it. 

Ethos: I will introduce ethos in three different sections, including my About Me section and my two reflections sections, where i will reflect on major assignments throughout the semester and readings given to us in order to help us with the assignments. This is done in order to establish credibility amongst the audience, showing I now have a background in rhetorical studies. This way you don’t have your audience looking at you like this, wondering if they should trust you or not. 

Pathos: In my opinion pathos is the most important aspect because of the fact that you can solidify the connection with your readers. I will present this throughout my website, specially in the reflection sections, providing opinions about past major assignments. That way I connect with people that are overly emotional…. like me. 

Logos: I will provide my audience with references of statements that i have made, ‘cause i ain’t no liar, backing up evidence and proving it came form a reliable source. 

Section C: As a designer! 

Ethos: Because i am reviewing past assignments and readings, i will be providing pictures of each, that way i show what i am talking about, providing credibility for the audience. If i add pictures, the reader will believe me because the the graphic is next to the context. 

Pathos : Even though i have not finished my design of the website, i plan to employ a theme that has to do with my semester topic, that way i provide a sense of emotion. I plan to use the Hope’s example. Her semester topic was electrical engineering ,so her website theme looked engineer-ish. 

Logos: Again, by providing pictures i will allow the reader to trust me, the writer. For example, even though not an image of the actual assignment, Adali posted a picture of feedback received by professor, showing a god response, and adding to her logos; the professor.

I like the way you tackled each section especially the ethos part as a writer, it shows you have a clear idea on what is going to be done in your  website also just to add consider on the pathos of design to think also about the colors they play an important role in setting the mood for the website.

Week 15 Website Analyzation

SECTION A:

1. In this particular website there is a sense of balance within website, but there is also a lot of information to obtain and comprehend all at once. The website is not really organized, and not appealing to the reader to continue to read the entire content. With it being disorganized it looks as if the creator of the website through all of the information together in a rush. 

2. Contrast is employed on this site by the use of it’s images on the website itself. The images are all different meaning by size, and color. Since the images are all the same shape making the images bigger, and readable is a good idea to make sure that the readers know about the point that is trying to get across, and to provide substantial evidence for any claim made on the website itself. 

3. The website does not really have a lot of consistency from the scale size of the images, to the sizing of the print on the website that is describing what the website is about. The size of the text is similar throughout most of the website until it gets to the end of it, becoming smaller and harder to read; causing a break in consistency for the whole website. 

4. The use of alignment and grouping in this website is decent, but can still be fixed with a little bit of adjustment, and condensing the images to make it look somewhat like an “electronic newspaper”. It would look more appealing to the eye and create a better understanding of the content. It would also help with the alignment on the website, and make everything flow better.

5. The effectiveness of the website would be better if the creator would have made the website more interactive, using links, or subheadings that you can click on to get more information. It excelled in getting to the point and providing examples and substantial evidence to back it up.

1. The balance of the website is much better than the first one in the sense that the creator made the website more interactive, and used white space to make it look spacious and appealing to the eye. 

2. Contrast is shown in the website with the use of images, and text also with the subheadings that are on the left of the website to help you navigate through the website more effectively. 

3. The use of consistency in this website is more effective and more noticeable than the other website. Each subheading and section of the website has it’s own title, and different information that flows with each topic that it is talking about at hand. 

4. The alignment and grouping on this website makes it look more professional, and spaced out; unlike the other website you can tell that this creator was more calm and relaxed than being rushed to finish the website.

5. The effectiveness of this site is more appealing, understandable, professional, and likely to catch more readers attention. It is helpful for the readers to be able to navigate through the website more freely instead of being limited.

SECTION B: 

1. To make sure that my website has enough balance, I will make sure that I use the proper amount of images all the same shape, size, and color. The text also needs to be the same size and font. 

2. Using contrast in my website would require for the images and the text to coincide with each other to look more professional, appealing to the eye, and to make it flow more easily.

3. I will focus on the consistency of my website by making sure that the images are all relatable to the topic that is at hand, the text is flowing throughout the website, and that the use of white space is equal.

4. Alignment and grouping is key to help my website look professional, have the readers intrigued to read my website, and what i have to offer them. It also helps with the website all flowing and coming together nicely. 

5. I will more a likely use black and white colors, due to the fact that i want my website to look professional, especially since it is going to be read and analyzed by a scholar (professor), and my fellow peers. 

6. By using these examples of websites, i will utilize them in the sense that i will know what to do correctly and what not to do in my own website.

Nice analysis i like how you went into detail when it came to explaining why the trend lines site alignment is poor, explaining how it would look much better if he made it much morel like an electronic newspaper site and making it much more pleasing to the eye, also while black and white colors are really professional they also make a website look really boring and monotonous add some color in between there to give your site some life even if its cooler colors such as navy blue lavender or any of those types so that it complements with your color choice in a good way.

Week 15 websites analysis

for this week we had to analysis the following websites

Analysis

1.       Both sites are imbalanced since one gives a lot   more space for images and the other one decided to use a lot of space for a couple of letters pushing the images to the right side.

2.       The trend lines site has a lot of contrast in between different areas of its site, with some areas having smaller fonts or different colors on the text, the second site has some contrast primarily because it divides every area with different colors or text sizes.

3.       The trend lines site does not have any consistency some areas are of different color or text size for no apparent reason, the second website however does have consistency since its using the same 3 colors for every area of the site alongside same text font and text size

4.       The trend lines web site has horizontal alignment and it groups information in small blocks that describe something different with most of the important information grouped to the left side of the site, the second website has vertical alignment and its grouping is based on what he is trying to tell or show he groups most of the text together, and then groups most of the images together at the end.

5.       The trend lines website is poorly effective overall being too cluttered and not having the information properly placed in areas as well as having different text fonts and sizes in areas that do not need such changes, the second website is bit more effective since it at least groups up relevant information together however some background choices make it harder to read and the way he made the site makes it that the information is displayed sparsely

Self reflection

1. I will properly divide my site to give an equal amount of space to images and text but giving a bit more space to the text.

2. I will use different background colors alongside separating them with different headings and different font styles.

3. on most of the website since if it’s not consistent the reader will get lost or lose interest

4. By aligning the information in such a way that is pleasant to read and grouping relevant information and pictures together

5. I plan on using cool colors that will not feel as aggressive on the reader eyes, I decided this because it’s more important that a site is easier to read than it having flashy colors that will tire the reader sight

6. By using proper fonts and text alignments and size I can ensure my website is well designed since if this is not done properly it shows on the design of the website being much weaker

Week 14:Plan of Action

As my team and I agreed in our contract, we will work on Mondays, however if we require to meet more days is order to get done the assignment, we will check our schedules and check when can meet. Working alone would be depending of everyone, but we will limit a deadline for the work alone gets done.

The aspect of the project would be discuss by the members and assigned by the member too. In order to complete the aspects of the assignment, I plan to dedicate time on Wednesdays after class and Saturdays.

The aspects that most concerns me is the information and who to display it. Since we are working on a poster, it is important to not overweight with too many information. Also, the format and colors of the poster are important. About the information, I believe we have almost everything, since my team and I wrote research papers of closes topics we have a lot of sources .

The aspects where I feel most comfortable is for my team, they are very supportable and easy to work with. I believe we are going to do a great job.

Week 14 Poster Agreement

Our team agreed in our contract that we would meet for team work on Mondays, however if needed changes can be made in case we require more time and according to our individual schedule. However individual work will depend on each one of us, and we will place a deadline for the work alone.

I plan to dedicate time on Thursday and Fridays for my individual work.

I plan to address specifically the use of sources and finding ones that can provide useful information as well as finding better images or graphs to use

On a different note what concerns me the most is the design of the poster and once we find the information how to make it visually appealing, the best way to deal with this is that each one of use would have to provide his own ideas and designs so that we can arrive at one that we can agree and looks easily readable

I feel the most comfortable when it comes to the topic and the sources since everyone in our team focused on a topic very similar to this, we have plenty of useful sources and information that can be used

week 13: research poster process

1. Analysis of DDT toxicity on Alzheimer’s Beta-amyloid Overexpression in Drosophila 

2. The requirements for this research poster and our research poster are similar in the sense that they needed a Intro (Abstract), Results, Methods and Materials a Conclusion, and the Sources as well. It differs by adding some other subtopics to their paper to give us more information on what we are trying to comprehend from this poster. 

3. The purpose of the research poster above is providing readers with information about DDT toxicity in Alzheimer’s Beta-amyloid overexpression in Drosophilia. They want to provide this information to make readers aware of this toxicity that is present in this certain topic to put spread general awareness. Yes this purpose is clearly shown because they provide an abstract and a background to inform us about the topic beforehand. 

4. This poster is intended for researches interested in this topic, patients that are going through this research proposal, or doctors that are trying to help the leading issue proposed in this research poster. Yes, it appeals to the audience, because it gives information needed in order to resolve this issue and help people learn about it as well. 

5. The research poster appeals to ethos by stating and including where the author or authors got their information from. In this case it is a credible source because it came from an actual research center, to where it is credible information coming from scholars that know what they are talking about.

6. It appeals to pathos in the sense that it grabs the attention of any family members or actual patients that are going through this issue, and are trying to find the solution to help end it. 

7. Finally it appeals to logos by knowing what they are talking about and making them sound professional, and educational. If something is written wrong people are less likely to read the information given, or will not have a clear understanding of the point that is trying to get across. 

SECTION B 

1. I will use this research poster as a guide of the layout of the actual research poster as far as white space, spacing, and content in each section. It will also influence me to makes sure that I get my point across in a professional and educational manner in order for other scholars, or readers to understand what the situation is. 

2. This will help me change my outline by rephrasing the information to make it more scholarly, provide background information on my topic, prove my topic with substantial evidence, and the way that this research poster looks; it stands out, has color, and just enough text to white space.

Nice analysis, i liked how you explained the ethos logos and pathos of the original poster, as well as the changes that you plan on bringing to your outline, and just to add i think that while it is a good idea to make your own outline more scholarly based on this poster, i think that it should have a wall of text like this one does it deters people from being interested in the poster since the wall of text discourages them to read it (this is mostly due to the post you analyzed abstract)

Week 13 Poster Analysis

1.The poster that i chose for this was:

Effects of electrical stimulation on Schwann cell migration on polypyrrole substrate

2. It’s similar  to our poster in many of the parts that it uses to separate information it has an introduction or something similar to it, a conclusion and result section, however it is different than ours in that it has an additional current treatments section on its poster.

3. Its purpose is to inform the reader about nerve damage and how Schwann cells can be used to treat such damage, and this purpose its very clear with the first statements of the poster being focused on establishing this purpose and its displayed effectively as well.

4.The intended audience is people that have some knowledge of biology and chemistry and are interested in health care, its mostly this specialized audience because they bring up terms that a normal person wouldn’t be able to grasp as well as a person with experience in that area already, it appeals moderately though if its going for that audience a bit more of claims and more advanced topics can be used to interest them more in this issue.

5. it shows its ethos by stating facts and showing what school made it or where it was researched, ethos is not that effective due to the lack of citations nothing has a citation that can give it more credibility and due to nothing being cited makes it look like a weak poster.

6. It barely displays pathos and it is not effective it is mainly trying to appeal the audience through the use of ethos and logos, pathos is not effective because there is no major appeal to the reader emotion almost everything is clear stated facts, and opinions with no bias or emotional impact.

7. It displays logos through the use of image and statements it is very effective, it uses the images especially to show how schawnn cells could vastly improve nerve damage repair.

Section B: Implications for your own research poster

1. I will try to convince my team mates into adopting some of the strategies that this poster uses towards our own such as the heavy use of images to support the text.

2. It will probably won’t change a lot, however we might add a background section or method section to support our poster.

Nice way of showing how to properly create a graphic and a conclusion, it helped me understand how to create a proper citation for a graphic since i was having issues citing them and that it should be italicized, and for the conclusion maybe just adding that it should remain in third person could be a good extra suggestion, but aside from that every part of how to make a conclusion is fine.

Mendoza due to her being the academic advisor he has personal experience when it comes to Hispanics both in college and higher education meaning that she could provide some good insights when it comes to the questions regarding about what is happening with Hispanics in college and stem fields

Although Olac Fuentes hasn’t done any research related to Hispanics in general he could provide a useful insight due to his background being a Mexican graduate that proceeded to earn his doctorate in The united states meaning that he could have an unique perspective when it comes to the US higher education system and if he was treated differently due to his background

Research Questions

My original questions…. Yeah, everything seemed all over the place and I obviously needed some clarifications.

My reflection:

After I visited the writing center I realized I had some misconceptions with the categories of the questions. The person that revised my work, took the time to make sure I understood all of the categories. Though she did not actually help transform my original ideas to better structured questions, I was able to come up with them on my own after her explanations. I wish she could have spent more time to revising my new research questions but overall she was very helpful and I definitely needed some guidance.

I like how you went into detail as to why you chose each question and how the UWC helped you out in improving them, that said the only thing that could be changed just a bit is that most of the questions focus on what if there isn't or more to say lack of, you could probably try and make more diverse questions that affect your topic, but those questions are great and don't need to be changed unless you really want to.

Week6 Research Questions Draft

These were my original question that I brought the writing center:

When I went to check my questions at the writing center I was assisted by Jessica Canales.

She liked the questions I had made and she told me that they were fine as how there were, however she did asked me to write the reason as to why I think a question belongs in a category.

Reasons why I chose those questions:

1)      Fact: This question is essential because we first must research the current diversity of Hispanics in higher education and see if there is any current trend in Hispanics when it comes to choosing a degree.

2)      Definition: This is important to know because depending on the requirements to be considered a student at higher education, it could mean that either Hispanics are over or under represented in the college field.

3)      Value: This is important because, a lot of people might not know the benefits that came come by making Hispanics enter into more diverse study fields, this could prove its worth either by them bringing a new way of thinking or by dealing with communication issues in the college system.

4)      Consequence: this should be an important question to deal with since while more Hispanics are entering college what are they doing after that, this could answer that Hispanics are useful to have both inside the college and outside the college once they graduate since they could be a key contributor when it comes to the economy.

5)      Interpretation: the answer to this question can be seen as important, because it could show the reasons as to why diversity in higher education fields is seen as something important or to see if it’s at the moment not considered an important issue to deal with.

6)      Policy: this question is important because it shows what is being tried or they plan to try so that more Hispanics enter into more diverse study fields and to see how are institutions if it is the case are trying to promote more diversity.

UWC Reflection

This was my first time visiting the writing center and I found it to be a very helpful place where they will gladly help you make your essays or any assignment much better just like they did with these questions since Jessica brought some interesting points about how to justify these questions, overall if i have a major assignment that I am struggling with I am for sure visiting them for help.

W5: Steps (and sentiments) towards my researching process:

1.  

Week 5 is here and so with the week comes a Tuesday, more specifically a Tumblr Tuesday. I check the guidelines for Week 5′s Tumblr Tuesday and click the link that sends me to the UTEP Library Guide. I had done extensive researching already on this page before this semester (#tears) but how else will I find reliable sources on the internet for my topic…?

2. 

So I pretty much get the gist of what to do next as I open the “Academic Search Complete” button on the page to look through the many sources that this database gives me. I eagerly put in the keywords to my topic such as “diversity” and “medical schools” on the database’s search tools and I hit enter. My results are in and I’m ready to-

…wait….

!?!??!?!?.…I have received way too many results, wow, um, okay then, I see how it is. 

I got a little freaked out there but I simply decide to just suck it up and look at the most relevant articles by ignoring the distant voice in my head to play Overwatch instead. (It could be worse, right?)

Hah, it took me quite awhile but…Voila! I find a perfect (and most relevant) one! The abstract is wonderful and makes me feel secure that this piece of information is useful. It fits every requirement on the assignment’s instructions, as well!! Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read and look over at every point the article makes, carefully. I find that it really fits my topic and even gives a different approach to display this information than other studies done on this particular subject. It’s not SO long and it is very organized, which is pretty great.

At this point I’m pretty glad, you know? Now all I have to do is save the magnificent and wondrous article that I just found and read over! I save this pdf file by simply clicking on “Download PDF” button at the top. What a concept.

Hey!!1111 would you look at that!!! I’m almost done, the relief slowly seeps in. Now for the very last step of this whole escapade is to…upload it to my dropbox.

What a perfect upload!!  I figured I should upload it indefinitely since there is some foreshadowing on the assignment guidelines that we probably should upload our articles to this safe haven..you know just in case….

Nice post,I  liked how you documented every step and went into detail of what you did, plus the amount of sarcasm in this post was just right, that said the only thing that you could try improving is the number formatting of your steps since you skipped a number and some of them have different sizes but this suggestion  is over a  minor thing.
