Week 15 Website Development Aaron vs Trendlines

Have you ever walked into a spider web? Visit the Trendlines website and get that feeling across your face, closed eyes, pursed lips, turning your head side to side? That’s what it’s about isn’t it, getting your attention! the wrong way! Aaron’s Website is ART! I am amazed at how the use of so little is so appealing! He has managed to get your attention without overwhelming you with information.

1. Does it bring balance to the force? Are all things equal? Are they less unequal? 

Trendlines -I have seen army Officers working late into the night to fix this type of slide! This slide is a NON-STARTER! This site is overwhelming! The balance is, is, non-existent! I am willing to bet if it were printed out that the weight of the ink would cause it crumple and bend! This is not a very good 

Aaron -  It seems that these websites serve two different purposes! Trending is trying to inform you the minute you access the page, Aaron is inviting you in for more information. The layout of his page is overwhelmingly simple. It is easy to see an follow across the “page.” 

2. Contrast - a noun or a verb, so many meanings. Contrast is the perfect description between these two websites!                                                               Trendlines is an exercise in overwhelming the audience! The fonts, the information, the colors, what does it all mean? It hurts the eyes to look at this product, it’ll hurt more trying to glean the meaning and the “So What” of the information presented.                                                                                              Aaron’s work - this can be described in two words “smooth operator!” Again this is a work of art, Unlike a Picasso, it is clear and crisp. It invites you to seek more. 

3. Consistency! We’ve all had “that Flan” that isn’t like the last one, Inconsistent! That Is it too much, not enough or just right?                                   Trendlines: I believe that the consistency is in it’s “Inconsistencies!”  Okay, The graph was consistent with what a graph looks like!                                               Aaron: Is consistently pleasing to the audience. One issue, the Paul Rodriguez website could use help in the text department. I could have mistook it for the Paul Rodrigo website.     

4. Alignment and grouping - Why is this a good formation? Everyone is where they are supposed to be! I know with out looking where you are at!       Trendlines - This page is overwhelmingly, OVERWHELMING! I can decipher it but… Someone will have to explain what the “bottom line up front is!”                  Aaron - the web designers’ work is so well done that even though there is a lot of unused space, non-alignment and use of text and photos… it maximizes the space, lines up perfectly and provides words and pictures effectively.               5. And the winner is… Aaron Marquez! Aaron wins “Hands down,” for all the reasons shown above!

Balance! DON’T ROCK THE BOAT! I am impressed with How things are presented and I’ll to make sure that I don’t overwhelm the senses, the format whether it’s pictures, charts or text.

I am so conservative that I will have to defer to A. Tirres for help on this color scheme. I guess we can talk about the contrast on the topic, “Diversity or Disparity” we’ll have to manage our subject instead of letting our subject manage us.

Consistency? Stay on message! Stay true to the subject matter. I will make sure that pictures, charts and text are complimentary not confrontational or conflicted, SQUIRREL!

Alignment and Grouping? Soldiering has been my life for 31 years, I will have to guard against right justifying all my text! Watch this!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KdyljqBrmg. Okay, being military can be predictable and boring, I’ll try not to be PREDICTABLE or BORING.

Color schemes? Yes, NOT too much contrast, Not too wild, not too mild. I plan on using a photo as a backdrop. Let nature awe and inspire for me!

Well-designed website? Opinion, Opinion, Opinion. I guess i’ll have to try a survey group from many backgrounds Age, Gender, etc too get an “Honest Opinion!” I WON’T ASK THIS GUY!

#Week15

For the first website, you can tell that the creator tried to create balance, but the execution was not there.

There is no apparent contrast. Everything seems to look the same throughout the website.

This website does not do a great job at consistency. There are different types of fonts styles (bold or italicized) in many different random colors and in different sizes.  

There is an effort of alignment, but just like the balance, it failed to be effective. Everything was grouped together on one page which makes the website very crowded and messy.

This website is not very effective. The website lacked in balanced, contrast, consistency, alignment, and grouping. In other words, the website is a mess.

Balance is very apparent in this website. The text and the images each have equal parts which creates balance in the website.

Contrast is seen in the website. The author used different elements of design by using primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and complementary colors (orange and blue) as well as

The website’s consistency is consistent (if that makes sense lol). The Author kept the same fonts and colors but modified them to meet the specific needs for each page.

The website does a really great job of keeping everything in an alignment. Items that were alike were kept in a group which created organization for the website.

Overall, I think this website did well. It’s design was nicely executed. It is easy to understand and keeps the audience engaged.

For my website, I’m going to make sure that my website does not look like the first example lol. Now that I’ve seen what to do and what not to do, I’m going to be extra cautious with my website. For balance, I am going to have equal images and text so it does not look uneven. For contrast, I will be using colors that are simple but still go with my theme. For consistency, I’m going to make sure everything looks the same and nothing will look out of place. As for alignment, I’m going to make sure everything is in line to be more organized. The colors that I will using for my website will be leaning more a gray tone, but enough to not make it dull.

I think that sticking to a certain aesthetic and being organized can really help the design of anyone’s website. :)

Creating a Plan of Action

A. Based on my schedule and what we have completed on my project, I will commit my work time to Thursdays and Fridays. But also this time will vary if I need to do more extensive work.

B. We will be meeting up as a group Wednesday after class and Thursdays from 10:30-2:50. As a group we might not take up that whole time but it depends on how much work we have and are able to complete on Wednesday.

C. Hopefully during our visits this week we will complete the poster. So by next Wednesday we can have our presentation done and begin practicing.

D. We all have the responsibility to bring the perspective from our Literature Reviews. The rest of the group members focused more diversity of the medical field. While my perspective was more on the results of not having a diverse field on the accessibility to healthcare. Which is why being able to connect all of our data we can finish both our poster and presentation in a timely manner.

E. The end of the semester is coming fast and with comes finals, term papers and such. Everybody is ready for it to be over and we just want to sleep. That is why I am concerned about time and scheduling but all will be well.

F. All my group members are obviously very passionate about their topic, so we are not lacking information or energy. I am sure we can work efficiently and be able to do a great job with our project.

#Week14

A)     We will be meeting on Mondays at 10:30 to discuss the progress of our poster and address any questions and concerns we may have.

B)     I will be working on the project during the weekdays and during my days off of school.

C)     I will be working on the poster design and layout on Piktochart as well as adding information to our poster.

D)     I will be looking up presentation posters online so I can use them as a guide for our poster and I will be also looking at YouTube videos.

E)     I’m most concerned about getting our main idea across by the information that we will be presenting. We can do this by looking at our information from an outsider’s perspective to see if our message is clear.

F)     I’m comfortable with designing the poster layout as I’ve done similar projects as this.

week 13: research poster process

1. Analysis of DDT toxicity on Alzheimer’s Beta-amyloid Overexpression in Drosophila 

2. The requirements for this research poster and our research poster are similar in the sense that they needed a Intro (Abstract), Results, Methods and Materials a Conclusion, and the Sources as well. It differs by adding some other subtopics to their paper to give us more information on what we are trying to comprehend from this poster. 

3. The purpose of the research poster above is providing readers with information about DDT toxicity in Alzheimer’s Beta-amyloid overexpression in Drosophilia. They want to provide this information to make readers aware of this toxicity that is present in this certain topic to put spread general awareness. Yes this purpose is clearly shown because they provide an abstract and a background to inform us about the topic beforehand. 

4. This poster is intended for researches interested in this topic, patients that are going through this research proposal, or doctors that are trying to help the leading issue proposed in this research poster. Yes, it appeals to the audience, because it gives information needed in order to resolve this issue and help people learn about it as well. 

5. The research poster appeals to ethos by stating and including where the author or authors got their information from. In this case it is a credible source because it came from an actual research center, to where it is credible information coming from scholars that know what they are talking about.

6. It appeals to pathos in the sense that it grabs the attention of any family members or actual patients that are going through this issue, and are trying to find the solution to help end it. 

7. Finally it appeals to logos by knowing what they are talking about and making them sound professional, and educational. If something is written wrong people are less likely to read the information given, or will not have a clear understanding of the point that is trying to get across. 

SECTION B 

1. I will use this research poster as a guide of the layout of the actual research poster as far as white space, spacing, and content in each section. It will also influence me to makes sure that I get my point across in a professional and educational manner in order for other scholars, or readers to understand what the situation is. 

2. This will help me change my outline by rephrasing the information to make it more scholarly, provide background information on my topic, prove my topic with substantial evidence, and the way that this research poster looks; it stands out, has color, and just enough text to white space.

#Week13

1.      Internet Inequality: The Impact of Home Internet Access on School Success

2.      This poster is similar to the requirements for my own research poster as it includes the title, results, and conclusions. It’s dissimilar as the poster does not include an introduction and its sources. The poster provides an abstract, background information, and methodology.

3.      The purpose of the poster is to provide information about internet inequality and how it affects school performance. The message is clear as it provides sufficient information and its purpose is effectively displayed because of the use of font, design, and colors.

4.      The intended audience for the poster is for families that do not have internet access at home. This information can be obtained because the poster provides a graph of households lacking internet use by race and ethnicity such as Hispanics, African Americans, Non-Hispanic Whites, and Asians. The poster effectively appeals to the audience as the information applies to them.

5.      This poster displays Ethos as it is created by the Department of Economics from The University of Texas at Austin which is a credible school.

6.      Pathos is displayed in the poster. The poster includes an image of a child of color struggling using a computer while being helped by an adult when a white student can be seen using a computer without issues. It is effective because it shows that students are effected by the lack of internet use at home.

7.      Logos is present in the poster as it provides statistics and facts. The information is straightforward and easy to understand which helps the audience gain more knowledge about home internet access and how it affects academic success.

B)

I really like the design of the poster and how everything was presented. It’s simple but it’s enough to get the main topic across and that’s something that I would want to do for my poster. The poster did not just include an image, but it included a graph and visuals. That’s something else I would like to include in my poster as well. The design was very organized and had a great color scheme. This poster will definitely serve as a guide for me when I am creating my poster. 

Our outline paper was changed by providing us more of a guide of what to do and what not do to. We did not think about including images or visuals but after analyzing this poster, I realized how important it is that we do include these things if we want to get our message across.

Week12 Research Reflection

Reflection 1. This Course - I have had thousands of opportunities to research, identify trends, conduct analysis, develop courses of action, make recommendations, get a decision and act on them…This course took it to another level. Sometimes I fought myself, sometimes I fought technology.         The course is well-developed, every exercise prepared me for the next and even “provided the answers!” Quit fighting yourself!  

Reflection Research - Women in the army/combat - Well, not so new an idea IS IT? I can honestly say that the macho, 20 to 45 yr old Paratrooper Fragoso…(me) has evolved! I witnessed first hand our weakness because we didn’t have women in the combat arms. I have also seen that women enhanced our capabilities! The physical toughness, carrying heavy loads, long distances, and all around animalistic brutality required of the Infantry is a time past. I was already beginning to accept the idea of women in combat arms before the political decision was made…I guess the iNFANTRY will truly become the Queen of Battle.

So What? So let’s get after it! Time to get back to work! I will definitely keep this work in digital and paper copy. I plan on making a checklist capturing every step we’ve taken. i can then apply the checklist against future projects. 

Research is critical to our world, sometimes we find out we were wrong (Magellen sailing around the world). Sometimes we find that we weren’t completely right in our assumptions (Columbus bumping into the americas). Sometimes we find that even Inconvenient truths may have false assumptions, Sometimes, we just don’t know!

#Week12

I’ve learned a lot from this literature review. At first, I was discouraged about the assignment because there was so much to do – understanding what needs to be done, lots of research, the interview, and actually writing the literature review. But after all that, it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it in the end. This literature review as helped me gain knowledge of the field I want to be in.

I think it’s important to learn about Hispanics in business. As a Hispanic interested in business, it was amazing to see that Hispanics play a big part of the U.S. economy and are opening businesses twice as fast than other groups. It’s encouraging for me and Hispanics that want to open up a business.

Not only has this assignment helped me get familiar with Hispanics in business, but I’ve also learned how to write a literature essay for the future. With this knowledge, I am prepared of what’s to come in my future endeavors.

Reflection:

Visiting the Writing Center did help me a lot. My tutor suggested mostly that I should rephrase my questions so they would be more clear and specific to the topic. He also corrected me on grammatical errors I had.I liked my tutors feedback because he knew what my assignment was about and knew exactly what I was trying to write. I feel that the Writing Center is a good place to go for help, specially in my case, English is my second language and I often have mayor grammatical errors. They are all very nice and always willing to help you.

We have the same topic so after reading your post it really helped me know that I was on the right track. :) Besides that, I think your questions are very clear and will make it easier for you to understand your research. I think that your top 4 questions should be 1, 3, 5, 6 because they will help explain the things that your reader might be interested in as you dive deeper into you research. Great post!
