I write poems out of women who never tried writing their names next to the word beautiful. Afraid that boys will only love them like a vintage wallpaper that covers the cracks of a disaster they barely survived without a hundred strips of soaked band-aids. I write poems out of men who fall in love at 2:46 imagined sunsets while staring at their lover’s Adam’s apple. Testing the letters of their names because God forgot to mention them after creating Eve when he made hearts out of clay. I write poems out of women who prefer to build their homes outside the voice boxes of their fathers, of their ex-boyfriends. Women who are halfway in painting their lover’s nails because God made them out of someone’s ribs, and they need to be reminded of not owing anything in return. I write poems out of men with light years of patience, and eyes that says I love you without blinking dirt. Waiting for their depressed lovers to come out of their bed sheets, their empty spaces, their picture frames, their own hands, so that they can hold their pulse and remind them that love will stay after half-moons and full, and in darkness, always.
