Oh-! Curse the way Oliver spoke- Shamefully, Oliver gaze rose to meet that of Feli’s, and he swallowed thickly, a stammer on his words, “yes- but- I-I don’t like-”

He waved his hand, as though he was tossing the subject aside in an attempt to brush the feelings under the carpet; kind of like pretending it wasn’t happening, or something along those lines. “Sorry, where was I beforehand?” Hopefully the soft chuckle and small smile would coax Feli into a different line of conversation.

Feliciano may be rather oblivious to most things, but even he knew when to drop a subject. “It’s okay, Oli. We don’t have to talk about it if you don’t wanna,” He reassured, reaching up to pat Oliver on the back. Personally, Feliciano could certainly relate to what Oliver was saying, but there was no need to dwell on that - just as there was no need to dwell on the fact that Oliver’s mother had...well.

With a lopsided smile, he lightly tilted his head. “I know that I was stating the obvious, that you’re super cute and lovely!”

“I like that about you- I mean- it’s a nice trait…to tell the truth. Telling lies is a really bad thing,” he’d stepped back a little, fumbling with the hem of his jumper, “my mum used to say that if you told lies your nose would grow- like Pinocchio!”

Oliver felt a smile tug at the corners of his lips, “she always came out with things like that, she was quite philosophical…”

Giggling, Feliciano couldn’t help but picture Oliver with a ridiculously long nose. Ah well, even if Oliver was Pinocchio - Feliciano didn’t think that his nose would ever grow, Oliver didn’t seem to sort to lie often. “Your mum sounds funny! Did you believe her?”

Oh. Feliciano wasn’t always the most observant person, but he wasn’t always oblivious. “’Was’? Is she...?”

“Get as much as you want then!” He indulged, handing Feliciano a bag to fill with sweets and a scoop before taking one for himself too. He took various pieces of sweets, jellies, gums and jawbreakers. He happily sampled most of them, completely immersed in his sweets. he filled two bags and looked around for Feliciano, whom he nearly forgot about when he was looking for the treats.

They were probably there for a long time as his phone signalled to him that they only had an hour to get to the venue and find good spots. Paying for the sweets, he gestured for Feliciano to put his sweets with his. “I’ll get that for you. Can I?” He asked with a smile. “We should probably hurry if we want good seats though.” He suggested, holding the bags of sweets in one hand and holding a hand out to Feliciano. “Just in case we get separated?”

With the bag in hand, Feliciano took Matthew’s words to heart. Although the bag was relatively big, he was determined to completely fill it up to the brim. Favouring the gummies, Feliciano practically filled three-quarters of the bag with them. Taking a brief walk around the store, it wasn’t long until the bag was stuffed full with sweets.

Hopping back over to Matthew’s side, Feliciano started patting his pockets, in search for his wallet. It was in one of his pockets, surely. “Really?...Grazie, Matthew!” He cheered, with a grin on his face. Passing the candy over, he gladly took Matthew’s hand. “Sure. Mm, let’s hurry then!”

Roderich listened absentmindedly at Feliciano, catching every other word for the other’s speech was quite hard to follow at times. Nonetheless, He did catch Dresden which he knew was a beautiful city from pictures alone, and word of mouth.

“Ja, Dresden is a lovely city.” Roderich agreed, if only to make it seem like he had followed every word that spilled from the Italian.

“Family?” Roderich repeated before shaking his head lightly in negation. “No, I’m afraid not. Most of my family lives back in Austria. Some are in other places in Europe, but none in America.” It would have been nice though had one of his cousins came up to study in America. However, in terms of education, America was really only known for their colleges and universities. They weren’t known to have very good high schools, or even boarding schools.

“How about you? Do you have more family up here other than your cousin?”

Perhaps one day he would visit Dresden again, possibly when he went back to Italy for a visit. He may even be able to convince someone else to go with him, he didn’t really want to go alone. Travelling alone wasn’t as fun as travelling with company.

It made him quite happy, to see that Roderich was actually paying attention to what he said. Most people would just blow him off, or get overwhelmed by whatever it was he was talking about.

“That’s a shame! Do you get to visit them often? I hope that you’re not too lonely out here all by yourself...I know! I’ll be your friend, and then you won’t be lonely any more, si?” Feliciano announced. For Feliciano, when it came to friendships, the other party didn’t always get a say in the matter.

“Mmmm, sorta. I have some Uncles and Aunties scattered about, but I don’t really see them too much. Oh, and I have a brother somewhere around here, but I’m not sure where he is at the moment.

Chiara kissed his cheek, and handed him a wrapped rectangular box. "Merry Christmas, fratellino."

“Grazie, Chi!” Feliciano exclaimed, happily taking the present. Before immediately unwrapping his gift, he turned around and started digging around in his little bag. The pastel sweaters he had ordered online for her had arrived only a few days ago - perfect timing. For a while there, he’d been worried that they wouldn’t turn up on time and he’d be left awkwardly scrambling about trying to find an appropriate gift for her.

Passing over the squishy package, he grinned. “Merry Christmas to you too.”

Oliver couldn’t look away, lips parted, gently, as he took a sharp inhale of shock. So- Oliver blinked, breaking out in a large smile, quickly wrapping his arms around Feli in a little hug, “you’re very good with words, Feli!”

He actually was, and Oliver would need to borrow some of that romantic skill for later needs in his writing; he wasn’t that good at being smooth, unless smooth was classes by how bad you can mess up asking a boy on a date. Age twelve was an awful time for him. He shuddered at the thought.

Instantly breaking his attempt at a serious face, Feliciano beamed brightly at Oliver. Returning the hug enthusiastically, he gleefully giggled. “Grazie, Oli! Mmm, I’m good ‘cause I’m telling the truth.”

It was difficult, complimenting not so attractive people - the meanies who might have pretty faces, but were really just big bullies on the inside - and he was definitely not smooth when he approached those sorts of people. If anything, he was more likely to run away than try and pursue a conversation with them.

“Off we go then.” Matthew led him to walk the streets. Zigzagging across people and looking back once in a while to make sure Feli was still behind him. He knew it was easy to get lost in the area especially with this amount of people. The stands were overflowing as well, probably due to the music festival in the early evening. If there was one thing he loved about New York, it was definitely people’s enthusiasm to party.

They arrived in the store in a few minutes, the old front was homey looking and had made him feel like he was at a creepy curiosity shop but the candies were all interesting and affordable. The cobblestone stairway and wooden door with latch was out of place in the new age design that the city was trying to project.

It was a simple set up, a cash desk and numerous containers containing different types of sweets and some empty ones for self service. “So, what do you think?” He turned to Feliciano.

Practically leaping to his feet, Feliciano tried his hardest to keep up with Matthew. But between the bustling streets, and all the eye-catching distractions, he was having a rather difficult time keeping up with him. Nevertheless, Feliciano managed to power through without getting lost a single time.

Hopping up each stair childishly, he jumped into the store, looking around curiously. There were various containers and jars of candy, some that he recognized and some that he didn’t, but they all looked equally delicious (except for the licorice, he never was a fan of bitter candies).

“Cool! It looks cool! I wanna get heaps and heaps of candy from here. Ve...especially ‘cause it all looks pretty cheap too,” He added, peeking at all the little price tags.
