Hey y'all, I'm Jaye and welcome to the shitshow lmao

This blog is and will always be a jumbled collection of whatever my current interests are as well as silly posts and phenomenal art💜

Do not send me anons about some random blogger I've never heard of nor interacted with just because they're supposedly problematic. I've seen countless harassment campaigns like that over my 14+ years on this hellsite and even if they really are an awful person, that behavior does not bring about positive change. I'm too old for that bullshit so don't bring it here. If I ever happen to reblog something from/about an account that's problematic for whatever reason, message me OFF ANON and discuss it with me like an adult.

I have multiple main tags for saving posts like:

"#i love this" and "#holy wow" for my favorite art pieces over the years

"#remember" for posts containing important info that I hope to remember to utilize over the years

"#i need a laugh" posts that at least at some point were so funny to me that I saved them for the future if I wanted to return to smthn hilarious

"#jayes ted talk" is my tag for any and all personal posts I'll make on here. They will get buried under whatever else I reblog/queue up so if you ever want to see what I've personally been up to I recommend checking that tag every so often

Covid's cultural hangover is fascinating because on the one hand no one really wants to think about or remember it, but on the other it does seem to have permanently destroyed the last shreds of (at least) American civic society, in a way which is only becoming harder to ignore as time goes on.

executive dysfunction is legitimately physically uncomfortable. i’ll be trapped between two things, weirdly caught on how-much-time-it-might-take-me. i take hours worried im going to take hours doing things. i’ll sit on the floor for the entire day, caught up in the middle of not-doing the chores i actually do want to be doing.

& the amount of mental energy that goes into it. & the legitimate amount of anger and discomfort and self-hate. is not “being lazy”.  it’d be a lot less work if i didn’t have to fight myself to just get up and do it. 

i just need you to understand it’s not effortless. it’s never effortless. it’s not “okay let me just get up and finally start doing this.” it’s more like. i am slamming my foot on the pedal but the car is in neutral and nothing is moving. it’s more like shouting instructions into a dying telephone. it’s more like being trapped in a small electric box, and someone who hates me is administering shocks.

There’s a quality that certain books/movies/TV shows have that leads me to say, “Yeah, I can see people making fanfiction of that.” It’s something to do, I think, with how tight the story is, how much feels open-ended or like it could be elaborated on.

Something like Breaking Bad, for example, has low squiggability (that’s what I’m calling this quality). It’s tightly written, the characters are consistent, there’s little left to interpolate or extrapolate. Obviously, people DO write fanfic of Breaking Bad, but it still has a low squiggability score. Whereas something like Supernatural has a high squiggability score. Fantasy and science fiction often have high squiggability scores. This suggests squiggability could also be related to worldbuilding and potential for people to borrow a premise or setting.

And sometimes you’ll read or watch something and you’ll say, “Ah, low squiggability,” and then you’ll open tumblr and find out that everyone else seem to think its squiggability was very high indeed.
