A temperature drop of twenty degrees, or a blizzard collects on side streets - it always gets colder when you leave. But you are never here for it. You are nowhere near, and tonight is no different. A heaven-sent.

it is a blessing on your heart, at least, so that you know how to treat other people, so that you can be prouder than any other ignorant person in this nation. you have your heritage to be proud of, but also your intelligence as a person who lives a life that a majority do not have to face. you contain the lessons that have yet to be learned; you are the teacher. people should be looking to you and people like me, looking to every other person who faces oppression and fears their leaders. this place is nothing without us.
blacklist me from your life, keep me on the ground. loathe the smile on your face, as you watch me frown. you bring the worst of me out, thinking less about myself than those who do not see me. filled with rage, so full of doubt. i give up.

over a year later, and still, i am sneaking looks of her from the side as light shines through her brown eyes just right, as it transforms their deep color into something translucent, strongly incandescent. her entire appearance grows bolder than it was moments before - she’s such a babe, and somehow we have each other. i continue to be enamored by her beauty, thrown into a different world when i look at the way her hair falls against her smooth back, struck by the sound of her voice and the vibrations in her throat when she softly speaks for only my ears to hear. her personality fills me with desire, and i remain captured by her pure heart and the love she has to give. i continue falling in love with this girl as i understand who she is along with the importance and role she has in our shared life, and there is no other time i would rather live in than right now, nowhere else i would rather be than with her - the most powerful and incredible woman, in my eyes. i’ve got a total crush on you, b, and you’re the only one i’ll ever want. love you.

The only way of knowing a person is to love them without hope.
Walter Benjamin (via hqlines)
This is one of my favorite things written by Walter. And it’s one of the most misunderstood ones. In a letter to Brecht, he touches upon this again - and this is shortly before he kills himself when the Nazi presence reached Portbou, at the French–Spanish border (Bataille writes about this). He explains this statement in a simple way: Hope mystifies a person, place, object. Hope can be dangerous and often restricting if clung on to too desperately. And in love, we often cling on to hope before we even begin to know the person of our affection. The idea is to love them by knowing them - discovering them, understanding them - without hope. And the thing is simple: the antonymous reality of hope is not always despair. Sometimes - often - hope is despair itself. Despair taints, mars, hurts. The opposite of hope can be elucidating; it can be acceptance without abject powerlessness; it can be resolve without expectation. And for that, Walter would always point at beginning at one’s own heart. Fortifying it before going anywhere else.

I still stand by this.

this is probably my favorite thing on the internet.
I knew when I said I love you that I was inventing a new alphabet for a city where no one could read that I was saying my poems in an empty theatre and pouring my wine for those who could not taste it.

I really love this photo of me and Evan setting up the tent in the badlands that Anne took a few years ago / we woke up at 5 in the morning to a torrential downpour and an inch of water in the tent and felt terrible for a few hours but eventually dried off, ate some mediocre hash browns, and went for a really nice hike before driving to Minneapolis
i literally took the biggest shit of my life that morning, and then we went on a great hike. what an awesome day. waking up in that storm was so cool. also, the storm we drove through in minnesota was crazy - that was the first time i had ever seen a green sky. for sure, i thought a tornado was going to sweep across I-90.
still funny to me that people like something i made with my friends. really appreciate seeing things like this, especially if it’s something i wouldn’t even want to write anymore. it’s my first time experiencing this, really. idk who you even are or where you are, and that’s cool. thank you.
on another note, pocket just recorded 5 new songs we’ve been working on since the spring, and they’re something we’re all really proud of. we hope to have them out very soon because we have some cool things in the works.
