you and me both, friend!! i thought i was the only one who fucking hated mx (and I'm meh on ind, at best), but the notes on this post are F U L L of people who hate it too!! I'm genuinely so happy to see that so many people feel the same sense of relief that i did when i figured out mg. genuinely, I'm really really glad to have helped people like me, and i hope this gains traction!!!

as for why it's the "official" honorific when nobody likes it..... par for the course, I'm afraid. a lot of these terms get thrown out without too much thought, and catch fire, and that's how you end up with enby discourse*. i guess we just needed a placeholder until something better came along! i can't blame people for trying.

*enby was supposed to be equivalent to boy/girl, which might explain why it sounds so childish. the post that popularized it was specifically looking to replace boy/girl in songs, but enby is TOO MANY SYLLABLES! it doesn't even work for its original purpose! no shade to the person who came up with it, they couldn't have known what would happen. if I'm feeling especially hubristic, i might take on that linguistic void next....
