I do want to thank everyone sending kind words with this. Emotionally I am FUCKED right now. A lot has broken me down today, and this comes right after I just took several days off to fix some of my emotional issues and RP issues. Today was just designed to break me, and seeing some people who I put hopes into being reliable fall through… Yeah… I’m hanging on the current idea of what I even want to do now. Do I stay subbed since I’m mostly here for RP which rarely happens anymore? Do I quit and try a different MMO? Do I become active on Tumblr again just to have people treat me like they have? I don’t know right now. I’m in tears, and I just don’t know.

Goodbye for the most part

After seeing just how Toxic the Tumblr side of things wants to act, I’m just done here. I’m keeping my blog up, and may post screens from time to time, but I don’t plan to keep pushing to interact. A little note on ‘popularity’!

As many of you know, I don’t often make it my business to involve the blog in any kind of discourse/drama/call-outs unless they specifically pertain to content here, but the note of popularity was one that resonated with me and something I wanted to address particularly because this blog serves to bring together and promote people who may be lesser known within the community (but not always are!).

When you put a person on the mantle of being ‘popular’, you’re by design no longer seeing that person as your equal. You’re equating them to some abstract concept of internet fame whereby association with them will bring you similar results, when that is often not the case. When you consider a person so popular as to be intimidating or model, it’s not a compliment. It’s an alienation. You’re no longer seeing that person as someone who you can be friends with because you’ve automatically disqualified them by virtue of your own self-consciousness and self-doubt. For a lot of people, especially this little moogle behind the screen, it’s almost a bit insulting. A person’s worth should not be valued by the quantity of people they engage with, nor should it be used as a means of propulsion. If the aim of roleplay is not to find people you are compatible with, what’s the point? It might not be someone who is ‘popular’ but, in the same vein as alienating them, you alienate lesser known blogs for something as simple as their follower count, and rob yourself the chance of knowing interesting and engaging people.

Similarly, by assigning popularity and assuming that a person has a platform to be influential, you rob the person of a space where they can be themselves. Those blogs and players who are known by a lot of people end up this way by contributing to the community – whether it be art, graphics, running events, ect. They weigh in on drama because they, like you and I, have a voice and choose to use it. If you don’t agree with them, the most positive thing you can do is block and unfollow them. Not only are you not contributing to their perceived popularity, but you’re curating your blog to be the experience you want it to be. A roleplay blog isn’t a corporation – it’s not politics. A person can say or do whatever they want on it. Just as I choose now, on this blog, to talk about the issue.

I’m not going to lie and say some of the anonymity behind this blog isn’t because of the weirdness surrounding internet popularity. I don’t run this blog to be popular. It’s not a pillar. If I left tomorrow, there are other blogs and other people in the future who would no doubt take my place. Focus on the people who make you happy, rather than a social media count.

There was a post floating around that said something to the effect of if you see someone from Tumblr who is ‘popular’ don’t crowd them or send out of the blue friend requests and don’t be offended if they don’t engage you right away and it just…it was written in a way that almost self-assigned the term 'Tumblr famous’, a term I don’t like.

As I’ve branched out and given Renata a chance to network, I -have- been finding more and more people interacting with me and wanting to meet my Grumplander.

Almost 400 people have decided I’m worth following and this astounds me. I want you to say hi if you see me in game. I don’t want anyone to think they can’t. I don’t want people assigning me a popularity tag. I don’t want anyone to think they can’t shoot me a tell saying “hey!”.
