That voice. Her heart pounded. She had not heard it in so long, not for years, but it was unmistakable. Tifa turned, only to find herself staring at the very person she had hoped to find guidance from. Aeris..., she thought the single word that unable to come out of her mouth. She took an impulsive step forward, her eyes widening out of sheer shock and disbelief. Goosebumps chilled her skin. The last time she had seen Aeris was when Sephiroth... But here she was, here, in front of her, smiling--and happy.
Tifa had an urge to be near her, to touch her hand, to make sure she was real. How many times had she wandered through Edge, thinking she had seen her closest friend, only to realize it was just her mind playing tricks on her? A girl who merely resembled Aeris or wore her hair the same way, a girl in a pink dress or wearing a ribbon... Was this Aeris that was now standing in front of her a ghost, or the real one? Either way, it was a comforting sight. "Aeris," Tifa finally said, averting her gaze and blinking her eyes rapidly in hopes that the tears that threatened to come out would just disappear. Her eyes burned. Usually, Tifa was not one to show weakness, not this prone to her emotions. But at the sight of her dearest friend possibly brought back from the dead, how else could she feel?
"Aeris? Are you really Aeris?" she asked, her mouth quivering as she slowly made her way towards the girl. Exactly the same. She looked exactly the same. No mind tricks, no trick in the light, no nothing. It was just... It was her... Tifa stood there for a long moment, staring at the girl; seeing her smiling face drove her to pull this Aeris into a hug. She could hear it: someone's heartbeat that was not her own, someone's warmth that was not her own. "You really--You're really here," she hoarsely whispered, feeling her whole body trembling. Her lips curled upward into a bittersweet smile. This was really Aeris, she knew.
Her friend. Her dearest friend. Tifa quickly released Aeris, staring at her again with her arms on her shoulders. Her face was perhaps serious, or more rather, straight to the point. "If you're here..." She looked down and then looked up, meeting the girl's gaze.
"Aeris, I-I'm not dead, am I?" Tifa really didn't think of things like what happened after someone dies or purgatory or whatnot. If someone died, no matter how sad it was, they were dead and their life was returned to the Lifestream. But Tifa had ventured into the Lifestream once before, and this--well, she had a feeling that this sure wasn't the Lifestream.
