mumbo does such an excellent job of highlining all his fellow hermits bases and building abilites and i am so happy he does.
go check out his video if you want to see what he does with these
the thing about capitalism is that at a certain point a product reaches its maximum audience and cant really be improved (at least not while remaining profitable), but capitalism requires a product provide infinite growth, and at that point the only way to increase profits is to raise prices, cut corners, and in the case of services start adding advertisements. this is just how the system works.
Rent-seeking is the act of growing one's existing wealth by manipulating the social or political environment without creating new wealth.[1] Rent-seeking activities have negative effects on the rest of society. They result in reduced economic efficiency through misallocation of resources, reduced wealth creation, lost government revenue, heightened income inequality,[2][3] risk of growing political bribery, and potential national decline.
The actual economic term for this parasitic behavior is "Rent Seeking", as in "charging you rent for things that didn't used to cost money just because we can."
"The classic example of rent-seeking, according to Robert Shiller, is that of a property owner who installs a chain across a river that flows through their land and then hires a collector to charge passing boats a fee to lower the chain. There is nothing productive about the chain or the collector, nor do passing boats get anything in return. The owner has made no improvements to the river and is not adding value in any way, directly or indirectly, except for themselves. All they are doing is finding a way to obtain money from something that used to be free." obtain money links to the wikipedia article for Parasitism which might be the most brutal diss I've ever seen on wikipedia ever

alright I'm almost finished Project Hail Mary, and I have to say, I don't get why people are shipping the guy with Markiplier when he's already in a perfectly healthy queer-platonic relationship with the alien spider made of rocks
that's insane. we need to change this
I need DC to bring back this dynamic between them RIGHT NOW
never take for granted the moments when you’re not nauseous
what they don't tell you about hadestown is that orpheus and eurydice are not the main characters. neither are persephone and hades. or hermes. or the fates. the main character is whoever in the band is playing the trombone because holy fuck

Fallen London is so delightful for MANY a reason but I think one of my favorites is just. How easy it is to go about playing.
If I can get onto my Firefox, I can play it. There's no catch.
It BENEFITS from me stepping away from it for a bit - which is super helpful when I have to, say, write a school paper, finish a drawing or a 3D project, spend time with the folks, reading a book, or doing errands.
I'm *allowed* to do my usual media hopping bc I cannot possibly be into one single thing at a time. My brain doesn't work like that. Fallen London is sharing space with Transformers, Final Fantasy 7, Baldur's Gate 3, and Downton Abbey. Again, it benefits from that. Running off to go focus on something else = more actions
And with how interesting and yet not overwhelming it is, it makes a DELIGHTFUL diversion when feeling rather ill (like I am right now).
There's a BUNCH of things I like about fallen london but how it plays is certainly one of the best things about it.
Today in statements that are only reasonable if you play Fallen London:
I'm going to spend the day harvesting 130 human skeletons from Hell because I don't feel like becoming a contract killer just to keep myself supplied for the week.
the reason that I keep shitposting about fallen london is that I, like a shark, need to shitpost to breathe, and fallen london is (affectionately) incredibly easy to shitpost about. like over 77% of the shitposts just write themselves. just describe your floc's average day/current pursuit/most recent ill-advised venture, and there's a good chance it'll automatically read like a shitpost. I Guarantee It
