Impulsive Decisions || Logan & Betty
The interior of whatever restaurant Betty had just waltzed into—she hadn’t bothered to look at the name—was quite the contrast from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was a small place filled with bright colours, and it almost seemed a little bit like home to Betty. Home being California, of course. But the thing that she enjoyed the most out of the whole atmosphere was that it wasn’t the sit-down-and-open-a-menu sort of place. It appeared to be the fast food style deal, with counter space to order at and counter space to pick up your order. Satisfyingly simple, yet much classier than a McDonald’s.
The amount of burger joints like this one lined up on Venice Beach were nearly uncountable, and that was without street vendors. Although she hadn’t lived close to Los Angeles, Betty always took time to make trips to the area, because she had a thing for places with lots to look at. Being in this place reminded her of all the trips she’d taken with friends, trying on different hats and scarves and sunglasses as they ate the greasiest fast food they could find. It was all a very pleasant memory, and part of her wondered if she’d ever get the chance to have times like those again.
With a sigh of contentment, Betty turned to Logan, wondering what he thought of the place. It was unlikely that he felt as at home as she did, and she wouldn’t dare ramble about this, so instead she just asked a simple question. “So, what do you think?”
From his time on the road, Logan found that he much preferred eateries that were unique and their own to chain restaurants. After a day of driving, there would be a McDonald's or a Burger King just a quarter mile from the exit, but if you were in the right part of 'the middle of nowhere' and you drove far enough down the street, you'd come to some small diner or a family owned Italian place. It was the little differences and details that varied from place to place that at least made things interesting.
This burger joint was a good example of the constants and variables that changed from place to place. The walls were painted different vibrant, vivid colors, with comfortable lighting and cozy booths. Most of the space was quiet, though the sounds of the kitchen echoed through the space. It was comfortable, interesting, and a nice break from the bustling city.
Pulled from his thoughts by Betty's question, he gave the girl a reassuring nod before responding. "It's nice, a fair choice on your part." As he smiled, he slid his hands into his pockets, glancing around the place once more.
