“Not if you have that negative attitude, you won’t.” She laughed, picking up some more chips and a little mini-sandwich for herself. “You should do that! I’m happy to share the food, but you have to promise to bring my containers back. If my tupperwares go missing, I’m gonna have to start a revolution.” Kayleigh did her best to make a stern and menacing face, though it was hard since she couldn’t be farther from serious.

She nudged him with her shoulders. “Well, then I guess you win. You’ll have to get me dinner. Poor, poor me.” She nodded and then hopped up to find the TV remote. It was in here somewhere… “Yeah. And even if you didn’t trust my judgement, you’d trust the people at the movie theater, right? They wouldn’t lie.” Or maybe they would, but it’d be weird if they all coordinated to try and convince her a movie was good. “Ah ha!” she exclaimed when she found the remote. “It’s movie time!”

Logan laughed as well, “ Okay, I’ll change my attitude to a positive one and see how far I get.” he teased back, continuing to eat what was currently still on his plate. He gave her an amused look, “ Let lightning strike me down if I don’t bring your tupperware containers back.” he said, chuckling, “ Don’t worry, I’ll get all your containers back to you Kay, and I’ll even bring them back washed and everything.” he said, wiggling his eyebrows at her playfully, “ Scouts honour.” he teased, shooting her a cheeky grin.

Logan smirked and shook his head slightly, “ As long as we’re both on the same page about this.” he stated simply. He turned his attention back to his now empty plate and leaned forward towards the table, loading his plate up with more food. He glanced at her as she searched for the remote, “ Well, I personally think that the people who work at movie theatres are trained to talk up all movies that come through in order to sell tickets, but sure....” he said, shrugging his shoulders. He looked around the room from his spot on the couch, plate in hand, trying to help her find the remote and even shifted about to see if maybe he was sitting on it, he wasn’t. He looked up at her, hearing her proclamation, and saw that she had found it, “ Great, lets do this.” he said, getting comfortable once more, he dug into his second plate of food.

“When do I not have plans?”  Brooklyn said with a grin,”  Really, I would think you’d have caught on to that by now?”   They both would recognize the joke, as it was no secret how much she disliked the idea of having someone keeping tabs on her.  While she could have used her power to change this with just about any other guard in Grimstone, they were smart in choosing Logan.  The guy simply had to remind them she couldn’t use her power on him and he was indeed her guard, and they’d simply reassign him.  It was annoying.

“Are you hoping to get in on this rom com date at the movie theatre and gossip brunch just after?  I’m sure you’d love to hear all my opinions on other residents here,”  she said hoping the idea of joining would feel more like torture to him and he’d decline.

Logan raised his eyebrows at her, catching on to her joke  “ I know, you conveniently always have plans whenever we’re scheduled to meet.” Logan replied to her, “ You’re not exactly subtle about how you feel when it comes to our visits together either.” he teased. This was how it usually was between them, at least she kept him on his toes, which kept things interesting between the two of them.  

Logan gave her an amused look, “ You know, I know what you’re trying to do here.” he stated, “ You’re trying to get rid of me, scare me off with the ideas of rom coms and girl talk... it’s not going to work.” he stated, he shook his head and gave her a cocky grin, “ It takes a lot more than that to get under my skin Brooklyn, I would think you’d have caught on to that by now.” he joked, purposely using her own words against her, he couldn’t help it. Logan was good at his job, and since Brooklyn was his assignment, he needed to follow through fully and not slack off on his responsibilities, no matter what she tried to throw in his direction. He knew she hated having him keep tabs on her like this, but there was nothing she could do about it, besides, it wasn’t like he was the worst guard to deal with either.

Ma used to say someone taking a full plate was the best compliment in the kitchen, so Kayleigh grinned, nudging another plate toward Logan. He was more than welcome to all that food. “Good. Eat all of it. Please!” Kayleigh was lucky her roommate didn’t much mind when she went on a cooking bender but this was a lot, even for her. 

“You know I’m not going to turn down a free treat,” she told him. One of the things she’d been really enjoying about life at Lake Grimstone was that she wasn’t always trying to make her paycheck stretch just a little further. But still, being treated was always nice. “Action it is. Oh! Have you seen Birds of Prey? I heard it was good.”

“ I’ll see what I can do but I doubt I’ll be able to eat absolutely all of this in one sitting.” Logan replied to her, he was still working on his first plate. “ I can take some of this with me when I leave though, I can bring some back to the barracks.” he offered with a small shrug of his shoulders, at least that way she wouldn’t be left with a bunch of left overs.

“ I wasn’t going to give you the chance to turn it down anyway.” Logan replied to her. He shook his head when she asked about the movie, “ No, I haven’t seen it. That’s the Harley Quinn movie right?” he asked her, wanting to make sure he was thinking of the right movie. It wasn’t often he had the time to sit and watch movies, he was either working or training, “ Let’s check it out, I trust your judgement.” he said.

People find out you have mind control powers and they either dump you in a super power facility or they assign you a personal handler.  Brooklyn had had both in her life, and unfortunately, was still stuck dealing with her babysitter, like she was some child who couldn’t be trusted to take care of herself. 

It wasn’t so much that Logan was a bad guy, as much as it was his JOB to make sure she didn’t get the true free reign of her life Brooklyn felt she deserved.  Did they honestly find her such a threat?   It was frustrating, to say the least, but also came with an odd sense of pride that they cared enough to give her that sort of attention and special treatment.

She waited at their normal check-in spot, ready to just get today’s meeting over with so she could go and meet up with a friend.  When the guard arrived, she wasted no time going to take a seat,”  Alright Kingston, let’s get this over with so I can get on with my day.”

Logan was on duty which really wasn’t all that unusual, he was usually on duty, not that he minded that. He enjoyed what he did, of course some days were more difficult than others but it was like that for everyone no matter what they did. This particular day, he had to check in with Brooklyn. He had to check in with her often and it had to be him because he was the only one she couldn’t control. That fact, he knew, bothered her.

Logan made it to their usual meeting spot and followed her, sitting down across from her, he looked up at her, “ Well, hello to you too, Brooklyn.” he replied to her, keeping his tone light yet professional. He has never been fazed by her attitude towards him, there was nothing she could do to him anyway,  “ I see you’re anxious to get things rolling.” he said, “ You got plans after this, I assume?” he asked curiously, it was his job to know and he took his job seriously. Brooklyn was capable of anything, it was his duty to take special interest in her, the Government wanted to keep an eye on her and he was the only one who could do that and remain protected.

Kayleigh let out a small sigh of relief. She knew sometimes she could overshoot a little when it came to things like good, so it was good that Logan saw it as a good thing rather than a mistake. “Perfect. Like I said, I think I did more than my fridge will take.” She reached out and grabbed two of the little mini sandwiches she’d whipped up and plopped them onto a plate along with some chips and guac. She’d been snacking this whole time while she was cooking, whcih was probably another mistake but, oh well, it was yummy.

“You don’t need to plan anything. This kept me busy, which is probably a good thing. You know how bad I can be when I’m bored.” It was a joke, of course. If she was bored, she probably wouldn’t do anything interesting, but Kayleigh was as self-deprecating as they come. “Mm, I’d like something action-y, but if you’re too tired for that, we could do one of those British period dramas where nothing really happens and they all do a lot of staring meaningfully. I’m good with either.”

Logan grabbed a plate and started to load it with food, like he said, he was starving, he grabbed a few sandwiches, chips, some veggies and dip. He looked over at her with a grin on his face, “ Told you I was hungry.” he said to her, sitting back on the couch and digging into his food, almost groaning at how good it all was. He hadn’t eaten since lunch and even then it was a short lived lunch and he didn’t get the chance to eat much at the time, so this was perfect, just what he needed really. 

“ Okay, but still, let me pay for dinner the next time we decide to eat out, it’s the least I could do.” he said to her. He chuckled, “ I highly doubt you were bored getting all this put together.” he said, “ Maybe I should be late more often.” he added with a cheeky grin, joking of course. “ How about an action-comedy?” he asked, he was always in the mood for a good action flick, but he wanted to laugh a bit as well. “ At this point I think those British movies would probably put me to sleep.”

Kayleigh left Logan to let himself in while she grabbed some napkins for them. Her roommate was probably working or out or something, but even if he was home, there was more than enough food overflowing their coffee table. Ooh, coffee. That was an idea! Maybe she’d whip up some after they finished eating. “Please eat it, I’m not sure my fridge will even hold this much food,” she told him. 

“I was thinking maybe a movie, but if you want to just wait and see where we end up, that’s fine with me,” she told him, settling onto the couch and grabbing a bite of nachos. “Aren’t you tired you? From all the law enforcing or whatever you actually do on your shifts?” For the most part, Kayleigh did her best to avoid guards. Not that she had anything to hide–she was more of a rule-follower than a rule-breaker–but she preferred to stay under the radar and draw as little attention to herself as possible, especially when it came to the government. Of course, this was different. Logan was a guard, yeah, but he was also her friend. He basically didn’t count, in her eyes.

Logan closed the door behind him as he took off his shoes, he then made his way over to her and got a better look at all the food she had put out for them, she really did go above and beyond and he loved her for it, he was starving. He looked at her, an amused grin on his lips, “ This is great, Kay, really, I’m starving.” he said to her, “ You went all out.” he said. 

He sat down on the couch next to her and nodded, “ Yeah I’m a little tired, so eating a bunch of food and watching movies is the best idea I’ve heard all day.” he replied to her. He was looking forward to just having a chill night with her, it was long due really. “ The next time we hang out, I’ll plan something fun for us, it’s the least I could do after you did all this.” he said, motioning towards her coffee table covered in food. “ So, what movie should we watch?”

It wasn’t like Kayleigh had made a big deal about Logan coming over. Or, she hadn’t meant to. She’d thrown together some snacks for them to enjoy, and of course some drinks, but then he got to be a few minutes passed when he was supposed to come, and she got bored and antsy, so she headed to the kitchen to whip up some more snacks and, well, by the time she heard the knock at her door, there was a veritable buffet awaiting him.

She opened the door and met his sheepish face with a grin of her own. “Don’t worry. I kept busy,” she assured him, popping the door further open to reveal the array. “I hope you’re hungry, though. I was maybe a little overzealous.”

Logan was relieved to see her grinning at him, of course she wasn’t upset that he was late, he didn’t expect her to be but he hated that he had made her wait for him. Logan stepped inside and looked at all the food she had put out for them, “ I can see that.” he replied to her with an amused chuckle, “ It all looks great.” he said as he took off his shoes. He was quite hungry actually, which wasn’t all that surprising, he usually was by the time he was done work. 

Logan looked back at Kayleigh and smiled at her, honestly he had been looking forward to this all day. It wasn’t always easy for the two of them to hang out, he was usually busy with work and to top things off, he lived in Point, but they always managed to make their friendship work one way or another. “ So, other than devouring this buffet you made for us, what’s the plan for tonight?” he asked her, he grinned “ Or should we live on the wild side and see where we end up?”

Logan was running a little late. He was supposed to have met up with Kayleigh at her place twenty minutes ago but his shift ended up running late and he had no choice, he had to stay. When he was done with his duties, he returned to the barracks, caught a quick shower, put on some clean clothes and was out the door again. 

When Logan finally made it to her house, he knocked on the door, hoping she wasn’t too mad at him for being late like this. When the door opened, he gave her a sheepish look, “ I know I’m late, but I couldn’t help it, my shift ran over.” he explained to her.

The first few years of Logan’s life were what most would consider normal. He was the younger child and lived in the shadow of his brother. Though, he couldn’t really blame them, since he too thought the very best of James, and he loved him more than he could ever express in words. Logan had just turned seventeen when his older brother entered the police academy. Never had Logan felt prouder of his brother than the day he graduated. While Logan knew of the risks that being a cop entailed, he knew that what his brother was doing was what everyone else should too: putting others before themselves. Within no time, his brother was climbing the ranks in the police force and, though Logan saw him less and less, he knew that what he was doing was important and so he never complained. Instead he took what he could get and made the most of it. Two years came and went with life being pretty normal for the Kingstons. Then, one day, everything changed. Logan’s family had just finished dinner when there was a phone call that shattered their worlds in to a thousand pieces. “Mr. Kingston, we regret to inform you that your son, James Kingston, died in the line of duty. We’re very sorry for your loss.” The phone dropped and Logan lost all color in his face. Not only did he lose his older brother, but his best friend as well. While most would be quick to say that it was way too soon for him to think that he would never recover from the horrible loss, Logan knew it wasn’t. James was everything that Logan aspired to be, and in the blink of an eye he was taken from him. The young man vowed to always remember his brother and to always honor his memory. The question was how? Logan tried following his brother’s footsteps, but being a cop was not for him. He always tried to put others first. He just couldn’t bring himself to do all the other things that being a cop entailed. So instead Logan enlisted in the army. During testing to see if he was capable of the things that were required of him, the government uncovered something that frightened Logan to the core. He wasn’t like any other human; he was special. Never had Logan seen any hints of being special and now here they were telling him that he possessed a superpower? Instead of deploying him, the Army handed him off to two government agents that took him to the place that he now had to call home: Lake Grimstone. It was explained to him how there he would learn more about his power and how to control it. Of course Logan was hesitant. At first, the thought of taking a different path than the one he had planned out for himself was not something he was looking forward too. But eventually he realized he had no choice all that was left to do was to accept his new life. When Logan turned twenty one, they offered him the opportunity of becoming a guard and so he took it. He believes that the government is doing the right thing, and is happy to help them protect the people on the island. Thirteen years have passed since he first arrived on the island and not much has changed for him other than his job. And, of course, the ability that he is starting to master.

JOHN ACOSTA - John was one of the residents that Logan was told to watch while he was on duty. He’s heard John screaming during the night and is worried about him. 

BROOKLYN DANE - Brooklyn is Logan’s new assignment. He’s been told to keep an eye on her and not leave her side no matter what. He’s keeping it professional, not wanting to get too close to her.

MAXINE GONZALEZ - Logan has never had a sister, but if he did, he’d imagine he’d act like with her the way he does with Maxine. He’s protective of her and is always there for her when she needs him.

Logan, as usual, was on duty. It wasn’t anything he wasn’t used to of course, he usually was on duty during town events, someone had to be and he didn’t mind it one bit. Logan paused in his rounds, deciding on the direction to go to next, when he heard a familiar voice. He turned and came face to face with Rhea, he chuckled slightly, “ As much as I’d like to go on one of the rides, I can’t.” he said to her, “ I’m on duty tonight.” he explained. He raised his eyebrows at her slightly as she continued to tease him about the girls at the kissing booth, he looked over at the kissing booth for a moment before turning back to her, “ You know, if you’re trying to use your love voodoo on me, it’s not going to work.” he said with an amused grin, “ And for the record, I never get nervous over kissing women.” he added.

“I should take lessons… But I’d probably flunk out.” He grinned back at the other, most of the nervousness of sitting with Logan dissipating. Clark missed his friend, and though he knew they couldn’t get back to how they were, one night wouldn’t hurt. It was just too much of a risk if Logan were to find him out. It would hurt them both a lot more than this situation currently does. “Ouch!” Clark laughed, looking over the other as a soft smile stayed on his lips. “How have you bee, Logan?”

“ Probably, I mean, only you could fail a cooking class.” Logan replied with a small chuckle. Logan shrugged his shoulders at Clark’s question, “ I’ve been busy.” he replied, not planning on getting too personal with him, “ Just been focusing on work.” he said, it was the truth, he was working a lot lately, but he kept it at that. “ What about you?” he asked in return. They were going to be sitting together for a while, he figured he might as well keep up with the conversation.

Rain has the power to fix everything.” She rambled, which she usually didn’t do, but she felt quite awkward disturbing the stranger, and so words just kept on spilling from her mouth. “What? Listen, you’re crazy, and I will prove to you that tea is amazing, especially the one they make here. Just wait and let your mind be blown.” She chuckled lightly, as she pulled her damp curls into a messy bun, “You want an exciting answer or the truth?” She asked playfully, as she arched her brows.

“ I get that.” he replied to her, “ I don’t mind the rain when it’s summer either, it’s refreshing then, but this time of year it’s not the same.” he said, shaking his head slightly. Logan couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped him, “ Alright, I’ll take your word for it.” he replied, “ What happens if I don’t like it?” he asked her. Logan grinned at her, “ Any answer you prefer to give me will do.”

Kaden nodded slowly. It was weird not being around Logan as much. Since the takeover, he felt like it was a weird time amongst the guards. They were still guards that the government had hired, but they were now working underneath the new power in town. TRP. “Not much.” Kaden said with a sigh. “Well… that’s not necessarily true.” Kaden admitted with an awkward smirk. “I uh… I caught Kristen and Cassandra trying to escape a couple of weeks ago.”

Logan raised his eyebrows in surprise, “ That was you?” he asked, “ I mean, I knew that they tried to escape but I didn’t realize it was you who caught them.” he said. Logan had to admit that he was impressed, at the same time however, it couldn’t have been easy for his best friend to do that, especially where his sister was concerned. “ I’m guessing that didn’t exactly go over well.” Logan said, “ What happened?” he asked, hoping Kaden wouldn’t mind him asking.

“Don’t sell yourself short.” She grinned, taking up the menu from the guy in front of her. She’d been here already before, quite possibly oo many times, as she tended to avoid the kitchen. Like every time she cooked it was always the same five things… Though now when she thought about it, she also ordered the same things here. “I will provide you the best company you have ever had. And if you will think otherwise at the end of the meal - I’ll buy your dinner, how does that sound?” She grinned, her smile showing off her white teeth. As the waitress came, she ordered her food, and also a beer. She had time off, so why not? “No? I think it gets like this every now and again. People want to change. And they come here, they find new experiences. Just like we are now.” She may have been babbling, but it made it easier for her. “Oh, I’m Larissa. The pleasure is all mine!” 

Logan waited as she finished with the waitress, he quickly gave the waitress his food order and waited for her to leave before he turned his attention back to the woman sitting across from him. “ Alright, you’re on.” he said, “ And if you do end up being the best company I’ve ever had, then I’ll buy yours, just to make things interesting.” he said to her, grinning back at her, curious as to how she intended to accomplish this. He took another look around the room, “ It’s kind of nice actually, I was expecting it to be quiet but I’m glad it’s not.” he said, it felt almost normal. He looked at her as she introduced herself to him, “ It’s nice to meet you, Larissa.” he said, “ So, what brought you out tonight?”
