the difference between Ross and Rachel and Logan and Rory despite having the same exact “I thought we were broken up and I slept with someone else” situation is that Logan Huntzberger explained that to him they were broken up but now he realizes that to Rory they weren’t broken up and then he apologized for hurting her and for misreading the situation
whereas Ross Geller thought they were broken up and when Rachel said she didn’t think they were, he just yelled it louder in an attempt to drown her out. and also he blamed her for causing the problem that lead to him sleeping with someone else
logan was the best boyfriend rory had, he challenged her and respected her and filled her life with fun and trust and love while also letting her hold on to her independence and god DAMNIT if I don’t find my own logan

can you explain more on how logan grew as a character (or how his growth was more significant than jess' growth)? a lot of people see logan as a shitty character partly because of his mistakes in the earlier seasons! it annoys me because jess was even worse in s2-3 and only grew later on... just like logan grew later on in s6-7 as well. idk.
okay, this is going to be pretty long, so bear with me.
i’ll be talking about logan in this post, because i’m not saying that he grew more than jess did—frankly we don’t know how much jess developed as a character since it was all behind-the-scenes (more on that later)—but a lot of logan’s growth is overlooked. i agree that logan was shitty at one point! he makes mistakes just like everyone else. what’s much more significant is how he acknowledges these mistakes:
yes, he comes from a place of privilege—this was evident at the very beginning. he used that privilege to his advantage several times. then he spiraled: in season 7, he made a mistake with his company, lost a lot of money, and took a few steps back. he left the huntzbergers. he decided to start fresh, doing things on his own this time. in hay bale maze, he acknowledged his privilege and understood what he did wrong; he decided to leave the huntzberger destiny and work hard on his own. growth.
unfaithful? uncommunicative? let’s see: the issue with the bridesmaids was his fault and i’m not excusing his behavior for that. i was upset with him too. however, this was due to lack of communication, and logan had a lot to learn, especially because this was his first relationship. and he did learn; it never happened again. frankly, logan and rory were much more communicative from that point forward—every fight and misunderstanding was resolved through communication. they argued, then they talked, then they put it behind them. the fight prior to the bridesmaids event was the only fight that didn’t get resolved this way.
more on trust and communication: season 7 episode 14. rory had a crush on a TA. she spoke about it with logan; both of them admitted to finding other people attractive (which is normal in any relationship), and both said that they didn’t have a problem with it because they trusted each other.
on rory’s questionable decisions: let’s take the yacht into consideration. this was completely rory’s decision and she suggested it on her own. logan still went along with it and didn’t choose to stop her, which was a mistake—but let’s remember that this was still early on in their relationship. after the incident, he checked up on her and spoke to her about what happened. later on, it became clear that logan knew when to speak up when needed; when rory lied to lucy, he called her out (granted, him telling the truth was uncalled for, but he apologized for this as well). when rory wrote a disrespectful article, he called her out on it AND her privilege. he knew when his input was needed. however, he also knew when to respect rory’s decisions. (i have more to say on this but i’ll save it for another time as this would only get longer).
the revival completely disregarded his growth; it was out of character for both logan AND rory. regardless of how you feel about s7, it’s still canon, so ASP choosing not to take it into consideration is just sloppy writing.
don’t have much to say about jess, but i’ll add my thoughts under the cut since you mentioned it.
i won’t deny that jess grew a lot, but what bugged me the most was how that growth wasn’t even seen by us. he leaves in s3. he comes back in s4 to ask rory to run away with him... then when he comes back in s6, we’re supposed to believe that he changed?
he did, by the way, i’m not denying that. i’m blaming most of this on lazy writing. if we had actually seen jess’ growth, it would have been much easier to connect with him. all he did was leave as a shitty person in s3, then suddenly in the next episode he’s in, he’s a changed person! suddenly he’s better! it’s all just lazy writing and he deserves way better than that imo.
so yeah, he grew up, but his character development better than anyone else’s—at least not in the way the fandom makes it out to be.
again, not saying that logan grew/developed more than jess did; i’m just saying that logan did become a better person, and we actually see that growth as the series progresses. it just sucks that people tend to gloss over that.
