If the cat is preferring to be at someone else's house when you let them outside.... I'd say that cat is definitely choosing them over you.
Someone at my work recently found a roughly 7 month old intact male cat who is extremely friendly and has been hanging around her house more and more and more. They live near an extremely busy road. They're going to contact the local shelter and see what they need to do legally, but when there was no microchip I looked this person in the eye and said "Please welcome your new cat." Provided they don't find owners, and I'm hoping to everything they *don't*, he is going to live out the rest of his life as an indoor-only cat.
Urban or suburban cats (i.e., those adjacent to busy roads) should exclusively be indoor cats. If you let your cat out in that environment, you're rolling the dice on more than it being hit by a car.
And rural cats get eaten by coyotes and foxes and uncontrolled dogs and possibly birds of prey and possibly shot by kids or adults with rifles who hate cats and they get exposed to parasites and bring those home to you and they get exposed to diseases and spread them and they also kill a ton of wildlife...keep them indoors.
as someone who has benefited from the cat distribution system recently in fact, as far as I'm concerned if you have not spayed or chipped your 8 month old cat and let them out when they went into heat because you were annoyed and I found them got them veterinary care and have kept them inside then I don't have a lot of sympathy for your situation.
I have a coworker who went to the pet store and bought his kids a kitten that he then refused to allow inside. When I warned that it would most likely be adopted by someone else or be killed, he shruged and said he didn't want it anyway but his wife insisted they get it. I had no sympathy when he was bitching about his kids crying when they found it dead in the road in front of their house after being hit by a car just a few months later.
All cats should be indoor cats. If you want you cat to spend time outside, build it a catio.
I just got described as an "ad hating commie" by someone because I said a minute of youtube ads is unpleasant. fully spent 5 minutes arguing and defending youtube ads. insane stuff
I know I don't post here much (at all) anymore, but this isn't something I'm comfortable posting about on TikTok for reasons I will explain under the cut.
I use my TikTok as a blog of sorts. I first opened my account because my daughter kept sending me vids. Then I started using it to track my efforts to clean my house and my weight loss. Now I use it for whatever.
My daughter got engaged in October 2022 and at Christmas, I asked if she wants me walk her down the aisle since she's no contact with her father. She just about snapped my head off saying that no one is going to give her away because that's an outdated misogynistic tradition and she's not someone's property to be given away. She then talked to my sister-in-law and asked my dad to walk her down the aisle.
I posted about how that hurt my feelings, along with other things in regards to her wedding. Everyone tore me apart saying it's not about me. I never said it was. I stressed that I was hurt that she seemed to be excluding me from special mother/daughter moments.
Then someone sent her my vids; right before Mother's Day.
Last week, we went for her first dress fitting and when we were talking about the rehearsal dinner, her mother-in-law reminded us that it's about my daughter and son-in-law.
A couple of days later, she called my mother to apologize. My mother accepted on my behalf. I don't feel like she had anything to apologize for, not to mention, my mother has no right accepting an apology for me. Especially when I wasn't given the apology.
I posted about that. And someone sent that vid to my daughter. My mother called and yelled at me for airing our family business right after telling me that she understands I need a place to vent.
Sorry, bitch, you don't get to tell em what I can and can't do on MY platform.
So, that is why I'm not on TikTok much anymore, either. Someone out that keeps stirring up trouble with me and my family. If I could figure out who it is, they would be blocked so fast.
Now, on to the rant I started this post for.
Last February, I moved into my current apartment. Shortly after I moved in, I became friends with a woman who lives in the next building. She has been unemployed almost the whole time I've lived here and has had difficulty finding/keeping a job.
Tuesday morning she called me and said she was in an accident. I have already figured out that she's a bit of a drama queen so I was thinking it wasn't very serious. But since I work from home, I was able to go and get her. I could see where her accident happened as I crossed the bridge from our buildings and I could see there was a cop car there.
When I pulled up, I still didn't think it was very serious. It looked like she had been run off the road and into a field and got stuck in the mud. As I got closer, I could see some damage but still didn't think it was that bad.
Until I walked around to the driver's side.
The front axle is completely broken.
She told me that a woman began driving erratically because she didn't like how slowly (at least the speed limit) my friend was driving and at one point, the other woman just stopped in the middle of the road (they were on the service road). When my friend tried to swerve around her (she later said the woman clipped her car causing her to go into a spin but I don't remember seeing any damage to the passenger side), she hit the retaining wall and spun around, ending up in the field.
Being a firm believer in paying it forward, I offered to help her when and where I can, mostly by driving her to run some errands.
Unfortunately, she has been running me ragged ever since, calling and texting almost constantly.
She has horrible grammar that makes my eye twitch and my head hurt trying to read her texts.
And she is so fucking scatterbrained (I think this might be why she's having trouble keeping a job)! I took her to the library yesterday to print off some paperwork she needs to food stamps and she asked me to keep track of the paperwork but then wanted to go through it despite my telling her I had all she needed and it was all in order.
She also will interrupt someone who's talking to start talking about a totally different topic. I've gotten to where I just keep talking, she will stop after a couple of words when I do that.
She is also computer illiterate, and yet she has a TikTok? (and that's another reason I'm ranting here, I don't want to hurt her feelings because she has already said she wishes she had died in the accident multiple times).
Thursday, I didn't respond to her texts right away and she started asking if I was angry with her. And whenever I hesitate to take her somewhere, or do something for her, she thinks I'm angry with her.
While I'm not angry with her, I am growing tired of her emotional neediness. But there isn't anyone else in her life that is willing to help her. Her son doesn't live that far away, but he has yet to come check on her. She has several men who will booty call her but none of them are willing to help now that she needs it.
As of right now, she needs between $4000 and $5000 to get a car and avoid eviction.
I'm thinking of asking for her permission to start a GoFundMe. But she keeps saying how she hates having to rely on others.
