It's with great sadness that I have to announce my sweet, special baby Lt. Dan has died. He was perfectly healthy and happy in his big clean tank with his tankmate and died from a tragic fishy accident. This morning I noticed his tankmate was swimming around super frantically and seemed stressed so I knew something was up. I couldn't find Dan so I went looking for him and I found he had somehow got stuck between the tank and sponge filter which means he drowned. I'm completely devastated that my poor sweet baby had to die like that and I wasn't around to save him. I remember when I spotted his little nugget self in a tank full of other goldfish and completely fell in love. They ended up giving him to me for free because he was "ugly and no one would buy him and he'd probably die soon". I put him in a big giant tank with one other goldfish and watched him thrive and grow over the past two years. I'll miss the way he wiggles his butt to swim and dug his nose around in the sand like a pig looking for food. He loved to eat everything, I remember I got a snail for the tank and Dan sucked the snail out of its shell and ate it like a monster. He was special but he was born tailless and swam around happily as if he had no idea he was even supposed to have one. I'm heartbroken and I'd be lying if I said I haven't been crying over a goldfish all morning. Anyone who knew me knew Dan was my baby and I was completely obsessed with him(like obviously, I have a tattoo of the thing on my arm). I know to a lot of people it's "just a fish" but to me he was special and tbh I loved him more than I love my dogs I've had for 10 years (in my defense they bite and bark and generally kinda suck).
