“Just fuck off, alright? I don’t want to talk about it.”
One week locked within the confines of her own mind was enough to drive Scarlett mad. Fortunately, her feelings for the man before her eyes had stolen what sanity she had left long before imprisonment could do it. It was the sense of powerlessness that had almost driven her to despair under Xavier’s iron grasp -- her whole life, Scarlett had been powerless. To be given power only for it to be taken away could break the weakest of men. But Scarlett was not a man -- she was a warrior. Always had been. She wore her lipstick like war paint, her words like daggers. She was untouchable; or at least, she had been until Logan had cut his way though the armour imprisoning her heart.
To see his face again made her realise it was all worth it. The sleepless nights. The starvation. The intrusive thoughts. The split knuckles and bruised thighs. Before she could stop herself, she was running at him, headlong, heedlessly sprinting, beating back the tiredness that tugged at her bones as she threw herself into his arms. Speechless, not even a thorny remark passed her lips as her arms snaked around his back, burying themselves in his coat, hot breaths against his skin as she at last allowed herself to cry, relief pouring through every inch of her mind. Logan was alive, and so was she. Right now, that was all she needed.
