Someone’s sleeping on the couch tonight

Líriel drew herself closer to him, as much as courtesy would allow her to. She had indeed chosen to come near him, but she would not be too bold. “There was a nightmare that has awoken me,” Elenilin confessed, “I cannot hope to close my eyes.”
At the hand laid on her shoulder, she protested not, but turned her glance to him. Suddenly, the singer felt ashamed of her own gesture. “But I shall leave if you think it is improper of me to be here.” Had she not been foolish, after all? He must think I am but the oddest of the women. Oh, well, I suppose this thought I could bear.
Frown deepening, not from her presence, but from worry, Maeglin asked
"My Lady, what troubles you? I am no stranger to horrid dreams... if you need someone to lend an ear and listen, I would not mind doing so."
He was hesitant, to do more than give her shoulder a gentle squeeze. For sometime, they had been getting more comfortable with each other's presence, but there was still...hesitance between them.
Lips twitching up in amusement at the auburn haired elf’s reply, Maeglin responded simply
“I am a blacksmith, my fondest memories are of bending steel and precious metals to shapes of grace and beauty. I thought to see what Celebaran already had, for I wish to make improvements.”
Setting down the sword in his hand, he turned to face her completely.
"I do not believe we have been introduced, you wear the armor of the elven guard, am I correct to assume you are in it as well? If so, your companions are very skilled.”
The dark haired elf was immensely curious about the guard, not the heavily armored ones, those were a familiar sight, but the ones clad in leather armor colored to match the forest. The had the skill to remain unseen if they wish, moving swiftly and silently through the trees. Maeglin personally wished to know more of this fighting style.
His name, where it evoked alarm and distrust in others, meant nothing to her. Her elders eyed him as if he were akin to a mountain lion, most dangerous and lethal if anatagonized and though she knew of the hidden strengths an elf knew to hide behind grace and daintiness, Tauriel could hardly fathom what this one had caused to be such a grim pause in other’s sentences.
But her king trusted him, ironically, for Thranduil was known for many things, trust not one of them.
She had not known him to be a blacksmith. His excuse to remain here amongst their armors and weapons seemed reasonable. “The captain of the guard.” she corrected, not bothering to stiffle the pride blooming in her voice, though as soon as her authoritative tone had ended, her emeralds darted down to the sword he had set aside. “My name is Tauriel.”
It was fairly amusing to him, her curiosity.Man of the woodland elves gave him wide birth, preferring to watch him from a distance. Though they had little to worry about, at the least he did not plan to give them any trouble, >save for a few small tricks to stave off the boredom.
"Captain of the guard? Then it is truly an honor to meet you."
Maeglin did mean his words, though perhaps in a more selfish sense. He wished to learn as much as he could about the guard, their techniques peaked his curiosity and he would find any excuse to observe them. Despite their kings trust of him, the others still did not, though this elf seemed different, she did not know of what he'd done.
Sitting upright, Maeglin took the sword from Huor carefully. Eyes sweeping over the blade, he nodded before turning to Huor.
"It belonged to one of the guard, but it is not one that I have made. I can assume that they will not miss it, as these are rarely used now.”
Most of the old weapons and armor were being switched out for the newer steel that Maeglin had been able to create. Despite his age, he was very skilled, and his steel was now preferred over many others. It keep him very busy, often keeping him shut away in his smithy for days at a time.
Huor’s eyes were still fixed on the elven blade. It was so different from all the other swords that he had seen. The Hadorians usually used a different kind of swords when they were fighting. And their blades were not as good as the one the elf was holding.
"It is beautiful, though" he commented. "It may not be used anymore. But I like the elven blade. I did not know that you are interested in forging, my lord."
Huor had never heard that Maeglin could forge swords. Thus, that information impressed him. “Who tought you everything you know about forging?” he dared ask after a brief moment of silence.
"It is. Despite having a large hand in the switch over to newer weapons, I still admire the craftsmanship of these."
Looking at Huor for a moment, he handed the sword back to him. Reclining back on the pillows, his brow creased in a frown. He was not...particularly fond of speaking of his past. Though he knew the human meant no harm in his question.
"My father, partly. He had a great love for the forging of metal, be it into a weapon or piece of jewelry. He learned from the dwarves that lived close to our home. I grew up learning all I could from him, and he eventually brought me to meet the dwarves and to learn what I could from them."
"I believe that…in time you will be."
Huor, from what he had seen, was the quieter of the brothers, he seemed to prefer to observe. Maeglin also found his temperament more agreeable than the elder brother, and was curious to see how he would change in the years to come. Arching a brow, Maeglin gave the other a curious look.
" A sword? Perhaps it is mine, though I am not the only blacksmith in the city. May I see it?”
Huor had never touched an elven blade before, as far as he could recall. He had learnt to wield the swords of his Hadorian kin. And he had learnt to fight with an axe, just like his mother’s kin were used to fighting. But many people deemed that Huor was too young to fight. But he thought that it was his duty to fight, on the side of his older brother. But this was not important now. He had to give that sword to lord Maeglin.
"Yes, you can see it, my lord" Huor replied as he handed the sword to Maeglin, still staring at the elven blade.
Sitting upright, Maeglin took the sword from Huor carefully. Eyes sweeping over the blade, he nodded before turning to Huor.
"It belonged to one of the guard, but it is not one that I have made. I can assume that they will not miss it, as these are rarely used now."

In the fires of Angband || Maeglin & Sauron

Awareness came back to him slowly, the first thing he noticed was his hands were bound, second the dull pounding in his head. Dark eyes opening wide, he glanced frantically around. He was in some type of cell, and from what he could see through the bars there were many more in the room he was in. He could hear the cries of others, their begging and pleading, and he felt fear lance through him.
How could he have been so foolish? In a moment of anger he’d left Gondolin’s safety, and the very thing his King had warned of had happened, he’d been captured. Suddenly the door to his cell was opened, causing him to shrink back as a large orc came in. It didn’t help, as the beast reached out, grabbing him by the hair and hauling him out of his cell. Maeglin was unable to keep track of the halls they passed as he was dragged along, he knew it foolish to be trying to even think of escape, but to die here, in such a foul place…
He could hear the sound of a heavy door opening, and he was tossed into the room, the door slamming shut behind him with a metallic thud. Sitting up, he lifted his head, dark eyes coming to rest on the other occupant of the room. Maeglin remained silent, waiting, watching, to see what he would do.
Mairon was like a light in the dark room which was only illuminated by a fire in a chimney. His red and golden eyes were glowing, his slender, tall body dressed with a simple red robe, his orange locks fell free down his shoulders and back. "Ah", he made and tilted his head to the side as he looked at the elf before him with curiosity in his eyes. Slowly he leaned closer with his beautiful, innocent smile. Mairon’s hand, decorated with rings on his long fingers, reached out to cup Maeglin’s cheek and tuck a streak of back hair that was falling into his face behind his ear. Counter-intuitively his touches were so soft and gentle … one wouldn’t imagine they came from Melkor’s servant. "Please pardon the … inconveniences. I have told my servants to be more careful with my guests. Are you hurt?”
The gentleness the other showed him confused him greatly, part of him knew well that this was merely another attempt to get information from him, but another part wanted to lean into the comforting gestures. The dark haired elf couldn’t help but tilt his head into the other’s hand, a small movement, but one that betrayed his thoughts.
“I am… undamaged, largely.”
Maeglin replied after a moments hesitation.
"Though I am unsure if I will remain so."
Maeglin had not expected this, he had expected threats, torture, and he did not know how to react. Unused to such gentle touches, or another being so close to him, it made it difficult for him to remain mistrustful of the man before him.
He noticed Maeglin enjoyed his touches and began caressing his cheek with sharp nails. Gently and carefully. "Oh, luckily.”, Mairon purred made him him get up, his hand still stroking cheek and neck. "Probably you are hungry? After these stressful occasions you should eat something, Maeglin …" Without even waiting for his reply, Mairon placed his hand on Maeglin’s back and lead him to the comfortable, dark red sofa in front of the chimney, making him sit. "What would you like to eat?"
It was weak of him, he knew, to be swayed so by such simple touches. The nails gently trailing over his cheek had his eyes fluttering shut for a moment, before they shot open once more and he caught himself. The man's deceptive kindness could not be real, or trusted, while he was grateful that he had not been harmed so far he knew that there was no telling how long this farce would last and the torture begin.
Led to stand, Maeglin stumbled a little, legs still slightly shaky. A warm hand on his back caused him to turn.
"What...is there something I can call you?"
Sitting down, he attempted to put a little space between them, not wanting to give the other a reason to touch him more. Confused slightly by the question he answered
"I do not believe I am in a position to be picky, though I am grateful for the offer of food. So what you give me, I'll take."
Being polite only got one so far, however Maeglin was hoping he could stave off the inevitable for a little longer.
Holy shit why are the icons moving?? I did not agree to this fuckery.

Holding the sword up before him, dark eyes narrowed as they inspected the blade for any fault in its design. Maeglin would not hand it over to the city guard if it was anything less than perfect. He had his pride in his work after all, and would not let a simple mistake ruin it. Hearing someone enter his smithy, he tilted his head, dark eyes searching for the person who'd entered
" Do you require something of me?"
au where two people are connected and if one gets hurt or touched the other feels it, though. ( inspired by x tbh. )
Shifting to lay down beside Huor, Maeglin let a small smile grace his features for but a moment.
"You are…unexpectedly kind, and brave despite what you face. I was not so, when I first came here. It took far longer than I would like to admit, for me to call this great city home.”
Maeglin resumed his motions, drawing his fingers through Huor’s hair once more. He absently wondered how the two humans were faring in the elven city, how they were adjusting, though he was hesitant to ask. So instead he asks
"You said you found something of mine?"
Huor was gazing at Maeglin’s facial expressions. He thought that he saw a smile forming on Maegln’s lips. But he wondered what the elf meant about his arrival at the city.
"I do not know if I am brave. I still do not know if I am as valiant as my ancestors" Huor spoke. "But I found something, and I thought that it belongs to you. It is a sword. I have never seen a weapon like this before" he added.
"I believe that...in time you will be."
May I see it?"
Dark eyes full of curiosity, they swept over Huor’s features, taking in the dusting of a blush across his cheeks. After a moment Maeglin spoke softly
"Worry not about the lateness of the hour, for I am often kept awake late into the night. Though it is not so often that I have the company of another.”
Fingers pausing in their motions, still curled into Huor’s locks, Maeglin shook his head. While he was unused to another being so close to him, or seeking out his company, Huor’s presence was not a bothersome one.
"I find your company to be…pleasing."
Huor gulped. He thought that he was an intruder, that he had something wrong and rude. But Maeglin’s words were a relief. The elf did not seem to be insulted, or so Huor wanted to believe.
He suddenly remembered that he had not informed his brother of his whereabouts. But Hurin would not be worried. Hurin certainly knew that his younger brother was safe.
"Do you really find my company to be a pleasant one? This is really flattering, my lord. Thank you so much!" Huor smiled.
Shifting to lay down beside Huor, Maeglin let a small smile grace his features for but a moment.
"You are...unexpectedly kind, and brave despite what you face. I was not so, when I first came here. It took far longer than I would like to admit, for me to call this great city home."
Maeglin resumed his motions, drawing his fingers through Huor's hair once more. He absently wondered how the two humans were faring in the elven city, how they were adjusting, though he was hesitant to ask. So instead he asks
"You said you found something of mine?"
