The Always Infinity Challenge
Find out what happened when Company headed to the Always Infinity reader event at the London Dance Academy...
Itâs not been in the UK for long, so when a lucky bunch of Company readers (along with fellow Zest, Cosmo and Womenâs Health devotees) got the opportunity to try out anti-gravity yoga and other activities at last weekendâs Always Infinity challenge event, there was palpable excitement in the air.
Having been kitted out in their stylish Freya Active-wear (more on that later) and fuelled by a delish Alpro breakfast, everybody swapped notes on how they stayed in shape - think everything from spin classes to weight lifting to half-marathons - before hitting the studio and hoisting themselves up in the anti-gravity hammocks.
Anti-gravity yoga uses a suspended swathe of swing-like fabric to perform moves that fuses gymnastics and yoga. âYouâll be hanging upside down, doing handstands and even back-flips,â explained instructor Sam Turner during her introductory demonstration on one of the slings. âBut donât worry - these hammocks are designed to hold the weight of a baby elephant, so theyâre completely safe.â After nailing Floating Childâs Pose, the Warrior and the Flamingo, the class finished with the Chandelier, an acrobatic upside-down move that Sam told us Pink performed at the Grammyâs whilst singing - no mean feat.
Up next? A Ballet Barre Conditioning class with Gymbox instructor Shanee Beery, who put readers through their paces with a series of intense (but elegant) exercises, all performed to a cardio-friendly mix of club tunes. âLift your legs higher, itâs Saturday morning!â Shanee chivvied, as the class began to break a serious sweat of Black Swan-intensity. âAre we good?â she asked, as everybody persevered through a particularly challenging series of pliĂ©s (who knew?). Itâs easy to see why the Victoriaâs Secret angels swear by barre-based workouts - the exercises promote a long, lean ballerinaâs physique without requiring Darcy Bussellâs level of experience.
In between studio time, there was an opportunity to chat with nutritionist Kate Arthur, who was offering her top tips for a healthy diet. âItâs all about getting the balance right,â she explained, advocating a predominantly plant-based diet and emphasizing the importance of not cutting out carbs completely. âYouâll hit the wall if you donât have carbs before a workout,â she explained (tip: opt for wholegrains like brown rice for the best energy boost).
Then, it was over to the Freya Active wear station to be fitted for the perfect sports bra. âEverybody bar one has been wearing the wrong size today,â the team told me incredulously, before ushering me into the booth and fitting me with a snugly fitting moulded sports bra, complete with odour-control Polygiene technology - great for time-poor women who donât have enough hours in the week to do multiple washes between workouts. Before heading off, we were also introduced to the new Always Infinity pads, which represent breakthrough technology on the protection-front, absorbing up to 10 times their weight in liquid and boasting a barely-there, lightweight quality - perfect for the next anti-gravity yoga session.
