I find it so interesting that Senadina explicitly points out Vita has no more wishes after finding her freedom... especially in how it frames the endings of the two arcs in 1.5.
At the end of the Salt Snow arc, Vita is ecstatic. She’s only ever been truly happy three times in her life, and that moment when Seele gives her the means to break free is the third. She’s reborn. She’s even taken the time to make peace with her friend. Everything is looking up for her after such a long, long suffering. I honestly thought it was a cute book end and they’d send her on a bus for a bit, focus on someone else in the rest of 1.5.
Obviously I was wrong. Because this was a bookend, but it wasn’t her character arc, it was her origin story, told live. Now we need to set up a new conflict, so she can become the character she’s going to be during the status quo of part 2.
Getting rid of Sa for good was step 1 of Vita’s after she got her wish. Much like Sa didn’t want the cocoon ever being a threat to her again, Vita didn’t want to live free with Sa on her tail. She couldn’t do it alone, but she facilitated Su’s plan and finished the job after Kiana’s attack. Success!
Yet, by the end of the Phosphorus arc, she’s incredibly upset. She’s still free, but her third happiness has ended, as fleeting as the previous two. If she ever thought of her after including the first people to ever love her unconditionally, it’s ruined now. Worse, the people she’s met to get there know how fickle she is, she’s betrayed them to be free and they will never fully trust her again.
She may be a god, but she’s helpless to get what truly makes her happy— love and trust. She tells Hua that she’s not used to dealing with good people like her or Seele. In Kiana’s silly new year event she mumbles that she misses being trusted like she was in Salt Snow… by the time part 2 rolls around, she spends her time teasing and provoking only for Durandal to tell her not to be so mean to herself.
Her freedom won’t be a dead end. She’ll find that spark again. She just needs to keep trying to feel something.
