Does anyone else get those random rushes of motivation like, “I’m gonna be so fucking successful dammit, watch me”

hot take pride and prejudice isn’t a story about two people who hate each other getting married despite their hate. pride and prejudice is a story about a rich, privileged guy getting called on his privilege and toxic masculinity by the woman he admires and then actually listening to her, taking steps to correct his own toxic masculine behavior, and using his wealth and privilege to rectify the “missing stair” problem he caused by allowing a predator to operate unchecked in his community. he specifically takes action, pays money, and does work without asking for credit or using it to point-score, because he realizes that his job as a privileged person is to protect vulnerable people, especially women. and THAT is what changes his crush’s mind about him, because he does the work and becomes a person she can respect, love, and be proud of. thanks for coming to my TED talk
I have never heard the plot and message of P&P articulated so accurately. We wonder why Austen is still so relevant today and Pride and Prejudice has always enjoyed such consistent appeal, this is it, this is why!
Who thinks P&P is about people who hate each other getting married?! I used to come across people who thought Austen was pretty unfeminist, or just couldn’t get into it Austen in general has a lot to say about class, and about the choices people are forced to make in life. She shows us what happens when people rush into marrying a partner they don’t respect, or don’t love (don’t do it, folks). She shows us that decisions should not be rushed; that you should know a person before you commit to them, and that it’s important to asess whether the people you surround yourself with platonically or romantically are ethical people. She shows us that marrying for money or prestige in itself won’t bring you happiness. She shows us that it’s important to be clear with the people you care about, but also that it’s important not to be easily swayed by gossip. She has people; even the rich and the powerful learn from their mistakes, and show that they have changed, and shows that growing is always better than stagnating or remaining bitter. She shows us heroines with agency, who know their minds, or learn how to make their decisions, and whose mistakes and choices progress the plot but don’t define them. Her heroines achieve happiness, but not because they are empty wish fulfilment; rather because of their growth, choices and ability to understand other people and themselves. Austen shows us people who aren’t willing to put in those efforts, but also shows us plenty of people who are, and how that enriches their lives. Their male counterparts aren’t some kind of cloned prince charming; Austen takes great pleasure in matching temperaments in her couples and exploring how people bring out the best or the worst in each other.

guy fieri’s flagship show is all about him going to underappreciated family-owned restaurants, praising their work and bringing them nationwide positive attention and business. he openly supports lgbt people like his sister and frequently has gay chefs on his grocery games competition, including ones revolving around relationships and family. he donates all of the non-perishable food from grocery games to food banks and advocates for fighting hunger. he goes to parts of the country where natural disasters have hit and hosts big events where he cooks for and feeds the victims. he has a legitimately funny sense of humor on his shows and is generally said to be a really nice person. he loves his son and has done whole television specials about taking him along on trips having once-in-a-lifetime experiences together. he might look goofy but that man does things that nourish the SOUL and u cant put frosted spikes on THAT
