So I’ve been playing with film lately. I even ordered a negative scanner so I can get my film photos online easier. Too bad it won’t get here until Tuesday or you’d be subjected to a LOT of my film photos from the roll I shot yesterday.
This is my happy shot of the week :)
I photographed some awesome roller derby action last night (I've been the official team photographer for about 5 years now) and just like during every bout, I catch a moment or two that isn't really all that critical to the competition but that make me laugh.
This is one of those moments of "happy Mike".
Finger Flippin' Good, #321 (on top), is one of our skaters. No, she's NOT supposed to be on the other skater's back. But what makes me smile about this one is the pure look of innocent mischief on her face as she looks up at a referee. It is like she's saying, "Who, me?"
Happy #3.... that weekend we went off to semuc champey, a beautiful spot in Guatemala, a little far away but worth the drive. We had the best time and I took as many photos as I could. Nature takes over and you get to enjoy every minute of it... my country's beautiful and it hides many secrets, I'm glad I got a weekend to discover it along with some great friends.

Here are the apples of my eye, my kids, taken with my fun little Fuji Instax instant camera. My daughter was working on a school photography assignment and my son was being agreeable and helping her with it. It was nice to see them getting along since they are both normally so stubborn, just like their father :)

I'm a week behind, I got the photos though! The week after the first post I'm grateful and happy for old friends. We went with my friends from school to visit my best girl in honduras, we had a wonderful weekend of catching up and enjoying each other and getting spoiled rotten at my friends house. She was excited to see us and we were lucky to be there. I'm a lucky girl.
Happiness Interruptus
So since Shelby posted her happy photo, it made me think about what mine would be. I know right away what it is, unfortunately I'll have to wait to upload it. You see, my daughter is taking photography in school and she is using a Canon EOS Rebel 2000 35-mm film camera in class. I decided that I'd get a film camera as well so we could share the experience. I bought a used Canon EOS ELAN 7E.
I just put my first roll of film in it this past weekend when my daughter needed to do a homework assignment for her class. My son even decided to come along to help, which was special since my kids fight like cats and dogs most of the time.
Anyway, I took 3 or 4 photos while out with them and my happy photo will be one of those. Or all of them.
I just need to finish the other 32 exposures on the roll!
ok, so first shot after a while... I liked this idea thinking there's always something to be grateful for, happy for... we'll see how we go right mikey? So first of all I'm thankful and happy to have you in my life mike, if we were a bit closer, well, you know... snappity snap :) But then this week valentines came up and I'm not a big fan. Surprisingly enough this little something was sent by some dear friends who I've been lucky enough to get to know and enjoy. They've been giving me laughs that will last a lifetime, this day they just warmed my heart. (ok, so photo's sucky and I waited to long to take the darned thing... the idea is to improve, right?)

Ok, so we let our project sit dormant for a loooooong time. No longer!
Shelby and I decided that our permanent theme is "What Makes Me Happy". Simply put, we'll post photos of whatever we want so long as it is something that touches us or makes our day brighter.
My first entry into this new theme came this morning. I looked out the window when I woke up this morning and saw that there was very heavy fog. This made me very happy and I decided that I HAD to take my camera with me on the way to work. I stopped at a park near my office and hiked about 40 minutes, taking photos as I hiked. The faint sunbeams breaking through made this my favorite shot from my impromptu photowalk.

I know this doesn't fit the current theme, but I wanted to share a photo from a roller derby bout I photographed last night. It was the first time I tried using a studio strobe on-location for a sporting event. It made a world of difference!

super late but I've been running around all over the place. I took the closeup with my very cheap add on that can work like a fisheye but if you remove the top it becomes a "macro" sort of thing... very blurry, very ghostly, so I decided to make something a bit more abstract and the editing in photoshop led me to this... it could be anything I figure, but if you want to guess...

Well, I held back and didn't post because I was waiting to see if my lovely partners were going to put something up for our latest theme, "Closeup". They didn't so I'll start the party off :)
I didn't think things through very well when I chose this theme because the only macro lens I have doesn't fit my full-frame 5D Mk II, so this is what you get....a relatively close shot taken zoomed in with a telephoto lens through my ring flash. The only editing I did here was some curves and color adjustments in Lightroom. The model is just that gorgeous and the makeup artist is just that good.
Oh I'm so late... so sorry guys :)
so when I picked water I never thought I'd be seeing this water... I got the chance to go to the Dominican Republic and I'm so happy I could take it. It was a lot of fun and it carried a lot of memories, I'd been there about 8 years ago visiting my friend and sister Manuela... she passed away an october 18th. 3 years ago. She was there this time too.

Week 4 Theme Announcement

Once again it's my turn to choose a theme for our little trio.
For week 4, I am choosing "Extreme Closeup". I am looking for something zoomed WAY in, or even a macro photo if you have a macro lens.
Maybe we could even turn this into a "What is it?" game if the shots are so close that the object in the photo is a mystery.
