How would Kaeya act in relationship with a sensitive sweetheart? That wouldn't be their entire personality, in all other respects they'd be a good match* but they posses a sensitive side that takes in the world deeply. More succinctly, they just want to feel loved.
*(be they perceptive, affectionate, intelligent, adventurous, bit of a firebrand, and/or cunning yet deeply authentic with those they love.)
I do see him getting along well with the perceptive, intelligent and firebrand parts. Interestingly, this sweetheart is quite similar to him except theyāre more open with their sensitivity than he is.
Kaeya is a sensitive man too. Thereās sensitivity in the way memories shift with time, sensitivity in the precise inflections of tone that twist implications, sensitivity in observation and perception of what a person says without words. Itās says to think this sensitivity to mood and emotion only applies to his work, but since weāve seen the parts of him that donāt shy from sentimentality (keeping old keepsakes, brewing wine for the Travellerās returnā interestingly Iāve noticed heās more comfortable with writing emotionally open thoughts than actually speaking them aloud) so itās not like he wonāt understand this sweetheartās sensitivity.
Heāll find it endearing definitely, but heāll also worry. The world isnāt kind, especially to those who feel deeply. He knows that better than most. So if the time comes when expectations come tumbling down and emotions bleed into one muddy puddle of apathy ā heāll be there. He has this funny talent of shrinking troubles, even when youāre both aware enough to know you canāt run from them forever.
That doesnāt mean theyāre exempt from his teasing, especially if they put in the effort not to show their sensitivity.
Heāll waggle his brows at the slightest slip, lean on their shoulder and confess heād already suspected this āsecret soft sideā ages ago. In truth, he probably had.
But itās not like they wonāt fluster him either. Itās not often you find someone who pays attention to you. Someone who doesnāt decide your character through their lens alone. If the sweetheart is sensitive to Kaeyaās expressions, the way he speaks where the truth lies in implication more than at face value, it is possible to get to know Kaeya. To understand that though wine is nice, itās the company that makes it all the more sweeter.
If Kaeya is faced with the sweetheartās sensitivity to his cues, the things he says through lingering stares, tapping fingers and airy, practiced laughs⦠theyāll see him smile. Not sly or mischievous, the boyish one that dimples in one corner, lopsided and imperfect and true.
He wonāt blush though. Or at least he insists he isnāt. Itās just the wine.
Now is only he could get that dopey grin off of his faceā¦
Hi Lunie! I was taking a look at the prompts you posted, what do you think about "You don't have to explain it. You don't owe me an explanation. Just tell me what you need." With Kaeya? Iāve always thought that someone who knows he hides a lot of complicated things but simply doesnāt push it out of respect is just what he needs (as partners or even just friends) š hope youāre having a nice day!
A/N: Helloo. I think a Reader like that is perfect for Kaeya and may actually get more vulnerability out of him. As long as theyāre careful not to accidentally enable his self-destructive behaviour, ofc.
Kaeya X Reader

Kaeya - "I have nothing to do with the Abyss Order" - Alberich
Bro is constantly dressed like one
Kaeya x reader
Kaeya Alberich was, unfortunately, impossible to ignore. Even on quiet days, he had a way of filling space, leaning into doorframes, appearing beside you without warning, voice smooth like heād been waiting for the exact right moment to speak.
āCareful,ā he said one afternoon, watching you reach for something on a high shelf. āIf you fall, Iāll have to report it as an official Knights emergency.ā
āYou mean youād write a report for it,ā you corrected.
āOf course. Very detailed. Possibly poetic.ā
You rolled your eyes, but before you could climb any further, his hand was already there, steadying the object, not quite touching you, but close enough that you felt the warmth of him. That was Kaeyaās way. Never too obvious. Never fully direct. But always aware. He lingered after that, as he often did, pretending he had nowhere else to be.
āYouāre staring again,ā you said.
āIām observing,ā he replied smoothly.
āThatās staring with extra steps.ā
A soft chuckle. āIf you prefer, I can be less subtle.ā
āPlease donāt.ā
āAh,ā he sighed dramatically, placing a hand over his chest. āRejected again. How cruel.ā
You tried not to smile. You failed. Kaeya noticed, of course. He always did. Later, when the sunlight turned softer and the city quieted, he walked with you through Mondstadtās streets without his usual theatrics. No crowd of attention, no exaggerated commentary. Just him at your side.
āYouāre quieter today,ā you said.
āAm I?ā he replied lightly.
āYou are.ā
A pause. Then, his voice lowered just slightly. āAnd if I said I was thinking too much, would you believe me?ā
That made you glance at him. Kaeya didnāt often admit things like that.
So you slowed your steps a little. āAbout what?ā
He shrugged, but it wasnāt careless. āLife has a funny way of changing direction when youāre not looking.ā
āYou sound like youāre about to leave Mondstadt,ā you said.
That got a real laugh from him, brief, but genuine.
āNo,ā he said, glancing at you now. āNothing so dramatic.ā
A pause. Then, softer.
āJust realizing some things are harder to walk away from than I thought.ā
The air between you shifted, not heavy, just honest in a way Kaeya usually avoided. You didnāt push him. You didnāt need to. Instead, you bumped your shoulder lightly against his.
āGood,ā you said simply.
He looked at you for a long moment, then smiled, still playful, but warmer at the edges.
āCareful,ā he said again. āIf you keep saying things like that, I might start believing I have something to stay for.ā
āYou already do.ā
His steps slowed for half a beat. Then he continued walking, like he hadnāt been affected at all. But his voice, when he spoke again, was quieter.
āā¦Iām aware.ā
And for once, Kaeya didnāt add a joke to cover it.
Genshin characters finding out that their s/o is asexual/on the spectrum
This was a request on ao3 by @gothmushroom (which I love the username) and I've had it posted on my ao3 but not on here so here it is! I hope you all like it!
Kaeya
I feel like Kaeya would be a bit confused at first when you bring it up and very joking because he thinks youāre teasing him or pulling a prank but then realizing youāre dead serious asks you for information.
He respects it completely and does ask if this means he can still tease you, kissing you on the cheek when you say he can just no sexual stuff during certain periods.
The captain much prefers to cuddle and toy with you anyway, seeing your flustered expression is worth the world in his eyes.
Scaramouche
When you mention that you need to talk to him heās visibly nervous for a split second and then covers it quickly telling you to spit out what you want, tilting his head as a sigh for you to carry on and a confused expression painting his face when you tell him.
Youāre also shocked when he says he feels the same but didnāt know there was a term for it and understands completely, the silence that follows after is not what you expected when you were prepared for an argument.
Now that doesnāt mean that youāre free from his teasing and mocking because it only fires him up more to get those flustered reactions (trusting you since that vulnerable show of self) from you when you try to hide.
Childe
The harbinger is a bit disappointed when you tell him that there will be less or no more sexy times but does respect your identity though that isnāt going to stop him from flirting at you left and right.
If anything this just gives him more snuggle time which heās absolutely not opposed to because just having your gorgeous figure lay on him and feel your heartbeat.
Heās a lot more cuddly when you both have free time together and you have to pry him off you since he now clings to you when you sleep, occasionally whispering comments about how tempting and sexy your body was.

ZhongliĀ ā established relationship
It's your usual date with Zhongli. Tea, overlooking Liyue Harbor, and just the two of you, talking.
It's been an hour since then, and you settled into a comfortable silence, simply enjoying each other's company and wellā¦. Zhongli can feel your gaze on him. It's been a good few minutes and you are squinting at him a bit too aggressively.Ā
He clears his throat, turning to face you, and he sees you blink at the sudden acknowledgement from him.
His voice is calm, curious, and he looks at you with a seemingly intrigued smile. ā... My love? Is there something on my face?ā

Part 1 (you're here!), Part 2
ALBEDO
You spend a lot of time in Albedo's lab. You're not entirely sure when it started becoming routine, but somewhere between him seeking your presence and you deciding to stay longer than necessary, it just... happened. You'd sit in the corner with a book or just watch him work, the way he moves through his experiments with methodical precision.Ā
Today, though, you're in the Favonius library instead. Albedo needed to research something specific, and you went along with him without question. You're sitting at one of the tables while he browses the shelves, pulling down various tomes with focused precision.
Lisa is at the front desk when Albedo brings his stack of books to check them out. You're waiting nearby, and she glances between the two of you with that knowing smile of hers.
"My, my, someone's been spending a lot of time with our dear Chief Alchemist," she says to you, her voice sweet as honey. She's already flipping through the first book. "Taking quite the interest in his work, are we?"
"Just curious," you say, suddenly very aware of how close Albedo is standing.
"Mm, how thoughtful of you." She continues scanning, her eyes flickering up to Albedo for just a moment. "Your lover must appreciate having someone so interested in what he does."
She says it so casually, so mixed in with the mundane task of checking out books, that it takes a moment for the words to actually register. By the time they do, she's already moving on to the next book, completely unbothered.
Albedo pauses. You notice it immediatelyāhis hand stills on the counter, and there's a moment where he seems to be processing something. His gaze drifts to the side, not quite looking at Lisa, not quite looking at you. He's just... considering. Turning the words over in his mind the way he does with everything else.Ā
Then, just as quietly as the pause came, he seems to release it. He doesn't correct her. Doesn't say anything at all. Just sets down the remaining books on the counter in that careful way of his.
āOh, uhm,ā You begin, looking over at Albedo. āWe, uh, arenāt together.ā
Lisa glances up, catches something in his expression, and her smile widens slightly. But she says nothing more.
Later, when you're back at the library and Albedo is focused on his research, you find yourself thinking about what Lisa said.
"Do you think I'm a distraction?" you ask casually, not looking up from your book.
Albedo doesn't pause in his work. "No." The answer is immediate. Certain. You turn a page.
"Lisa thinks we're together," you say.
He sets down the vial he held with careful precision. Turns to look at you fully, and for a long moment, he doesn't say anything. His soft, analytical gaze is fixed on you, and the silence stretches outālong enough that you start to feel uncomfortable, long enough that you begin to wonder if you've said something wrong.
And then, as though he had reached a conclusion so simple and obvious, "Would that be so strange?"
You realise you don't have an answer for that. And more importantly, that perhaps, no, it would not be so strange after all.Ā
AYATO
The Kamisato clan commissioner rarely ventured into the markets. Usually, he would have sent either Thoma or one of his other myriad helpers to fetch whatever it was he or Ayaka needed. But, today, perhaps as a change of environmentāaway from the towering paperwork he had to fillāAyato decided to accompany you in your shopping. He always had a peculiar habit of trailing behind you, even when it was unnecessary. You had gotten used to his presence in your life. A shadow. An extremely coy and teasing shadow, that is.Ā
Besides, perhaps the presence of the commissioner would snag you a couple of good deals while out and about.Ā
You curled a bolt of silk green fabric around your wrist. Pretty, smooth. Ayato peeked over your shoulder, scrutinising the item in so much more detail than you were at all.Ā
You turned back to look at him and huffed, a sound of amusement, āWhat, is it not to your liking, Ayato?ā
āWell,ā he seemed to draw out, catching your eyes. āI hardly think itās your shade.ā
Not your shade? Just as a retort bubbled up in your throat, you were interrupted by the sound of the vendor. āAh, commissioner!ā He said. āInterested in imported silks, are you?ā
The man seemed to be pulling out more cloth, shades of different coloursāsilver, lavender, pink, blue. His hands moved with practiced efficiency as he laid out the fabrics over the counter. He seemed to be going on and on about where each piece was imported fromāthis one from Liyue, the other a local craftsman from Inazuma, the other cultivated in the meadows of Mondstadt.Ā
But then he picked out a specific piece and looked over to Ayato. āIām sure your lover would look stunning in the deeper blues,ā he said. āDoes the lady have a preference, or should we let the commissioner decide?ā
You tensed.Ā
Lover? And the man had said it so casually, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. You felt your cheeks warm and suddenly you seemed to become all too aware of the little distance between you and Ayato. As though hypersensory, you could feel the way Ayatoās hands stilled, resting for a moment at your hip. You looked over at him.Ā
And yet, there was no change in his expression. If anything, the small smile he had on his face had stretched a fractional amount. His head tilted to the side.Ā
āI think she would look rather beautiful,ā Ayato said. Simple and casual, his eyes snagging on you for half a second. It was like he hadnāt even heard the former part of the sentence. Or, scratch that, like he hadnāt heard anything the vendor had just said.Ā
The vendor was simply ecstatic to have sold something to the commissioner, andāapparentlyāhis ālover,ā and had left to wrap the item.Ā
You paused for a second, before turning to the man next to you. āWhat was that?āĀ
Ayato hummed non-commitally as he looked at you. āWhat was what?ā He feigned ignorance, that smug idiot. He never missed a single thing. Once you had changed the scent of your perfume from Sakura Bloom to Naku Weed, and he had caught it the moment you stepped into his office; there was no way he hadnāt heard that.Ā
āHe just called me your lover!ā You pressed.Ā
Ayato just tilted his head, his fingers tapping against the wooden counter. āYes.ā
āAnd you didnāt correct him.ā
āNo.ā
The heat in your face seemed to rise in temperature. Just what exactly was he playing at? Why was he staring at you like this was the most normal thing ever? Was he not bothered? And the way the merchant had said it, too, it was like everyone in the entirety of Inazuma knew about this except for you!
āWhy not?ā You asked, growing more shifty by the second.Ā
Ayato let out a laugh, a sweet, melodic little sound, āYou didn't seem eager to correct him yourself.ā
You opened your mouth to argue, and then closed it again. āW-Well, I was just aboutābut then, Iā¦ā Any and all justification that rose in your throat withered away. Especially when Ayato was staring at you like that. Like he was challenging you to question that assumption, daring you to change it.Ā
That day, the two of you walked away having bought an expensive indigo fabric. Matching the Kamisato insignia.
CHILDE
The training grounds were empty except for the two of you. You'd been sparring with Childe for the better part of an hour, and he was still grinning like he was having the time of his lifeāwhich, knowing him, he probably was.
"Your footwork's off," he called out, circling you with that predatory grace he had when he was actually engaged. "You're telegraphing your next move."
"Maybe I want you to know what I'm doing," you shot back, lunging. He sidestepped easily, but you'd anticipated that, spinning to catch him off-guard with a follow-up strike. He blocked it, and the impact sent a jolt up your arm. "Or maybe you're just slow today."
"Slow?" He laughed, and there was an edge to it nowāthe kind that meant he'd stopped holding back. He came at you with a series of quick strikes, testing your reflexes, and you matched him, parry for parry.Ā
Your muscles were already burning from the previous rounds, but you pushed anyway because he'd give you that look of approval when you did, that slight nod like you'd passed some invisible test. "You're the one who's slowing down. Your last five moves have been predictable."
"Only because you're boring me," you said, breathing harder now. You twisted away from his next strike, used his momentum against him, and nearly got him off-balance. Nearly. He recovered with infuriating ease, but you caught the flash of something in his expressionāgenuine interest now, not just amusement.
The sparring continued, and at one point, you overextended on a strike. His hand came out to steady you, gripping your arm just above the elbow. It was meant to be instructionalāa correction of your formābut he held it for a moment, his thumb brushing against your skin before he released you. Neither of you acknowledged it. He just stepped back and said, "Again. Better this time."
You came at him again, and somewhere in the middle of it, there was a moment where he caught your wrist mid-strike. His hand was warm, his grip firm but not painful. He could have thrown you. Instead, he held it for a fraction of a second longer than necessary, and you were close enough to see the slight raise in his eyebrowāa challenge. You twisted your arm, trying to break free, and he let you go with a grin.
"Getting better," he said.
"I've always been good. You're just finally noticing," you replied, and charged at him again.
By the time you both called it, you were both breathing hard. Sweat dripped down your temple, and your arms felt like lead. Childe was still smiling though, that infuriating, easy smile of his that suggested he could do this all day. He grabbed his water bottle, tossed you one, and you caught it easily. The cold water was a relief as you drank, trying to catch your breath.
You were leaning against the nearby pillar, still catching your breath, when you heard voices approaching. Not close yet, but getting closer. You recognized one of them immediatelyāPaimon's high-pitched chatter, and underneath it, Lumine's quieter responses. You didn't think much of it. They were probably just passing through the training grounds on their way somewhere else.
Childe was standing a few feet away from you, already looking refreshed despite the exertion. He had that energy about him, the kind that didn't seem to deplete no matter how hard he pushed himself. He caught you looking at him and raised an eyebrow.
"What? Do I have something on my face?" he asked, already moving toward you.
"Just wondering how you're not completely dead," you said. "Normal people need recovery time."
"I'm not normal people." He stopped beside you, close enough that you could feel the warmth radiating off him. Without any real thought to it, he reached over and fixed a strand of your hair that had come loose during the sparring, tucking it back behind your ear. It was such a casual gesture, the kind of thing he did without thinking. Your breath caught slightly, but he was already pulling his hand back, already grinning at you like he hadn't just done something that made your heart rate pick up for reasons that had nothing to do with the exercise.
"Definitely not normal," you muttered, looking away.
"Hey, Childe! Lumine and I were justāoh!"
You looked up to see Paimon floating toward you both, her expression shifting to something almost knowing as she took in the sight of you two standing close together, both flushed and breathing hard. Lumine followed behind her, her eyes flickering between you and Childe with that quiet observation of hers.
"We were just heading to the Adventurers' Guild," Paimon continued, but there was a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "But wow, looks like you two have been going at it pretty hard. I'm just glad Childe's finally found his special someone! But sheesh, do you have to go that hard on her?"
There was a beat. You opened your mouth to correct her, to clarify whatever assumption she'd just made, but Childe moved first. His arm came around you without hesitation, pulling you against his side in one smooth motion. It was the kind of casual contact you two shared all the time, except it wasn't casual now. Not the way he was looking at Paimon, not the way his hand rested at your hip like it belonged there.
"Yeah, well," he said, his voice easy and warm, "took me long enough to find someone worth the effort."
Lumine's lips curved into the faintest smile. "That's one way to put it," she said, and there was definitely something knowing in her tone.
You felt your face flush. You pushed against his chest, your hand flat against the fabric of his shirt.
"You're insane," you said, but you were already laughing despite yourself, despite the way your heart was doing backflips.
Paimon giggled, seeming satisfied with whatever she thought she'd figured out, and Lumine gave you both a small wave before they continued on their way. You watched them go, still half-pressed against Childe's side, and the moment they were out of earshot, you pushed away from him properly.
"You want to enlighten me on what you were implying there?" you asked, turning to face him.
Childe's grin was still there, but something underneath it had shifted. He wasn't quite looking at you directly, was instead focused on something past your shoulder, his expression caught between amusement and something you couldn't quite read.
"Was I implying something?" he said, but there was no real teasing in it now.
"You just told them we're together."
He finally looked at you then, and his expression was softer than you'd expected. Still smiling, but there was something real behind itāsomething that made your stomach twist in a way that had nothing to do with the sparring.
"And?" he said softly. "I wasn't lying though, was I?"
KAEYA
You'd been coming to the tavern with Kaeya for weeks now. It started innocuously enoughāhe'd asked if you wanted a drink after a particularly grueling shift, and you'd said yes mostly because you were too tired to say no. Somewhere along the way, it became routine. Every few nights you'd find yourself at the counter with him, and he'd order for you without asking. He always got it right, which was irritating in its own way.
Tonight was like any other night. You were sitting at your usual spot, the one that had somehow become your spot, when someone approached. One of the regularsāa member of the Adventurerās Guildāsomeone you'd seen around enough times to recognize but not enough to know by name.
"Kaeya," the man slurred, leaning against the bar. "Your girlfriend's looking particularly radiant tonight."
You felt your spine stiffen slightly. Girlfriend. The word hung there for a moment, waiting to be corrected.Ā
You looked over at Kaeya, waiting for him to say something, to clarify, to do whatever it was he normally did when people made assumptions. But he just smiled. That easy, lazy smile of his.Ā
"Isn't she always?" he said, and the man laughed like it was the most charming thing he'd ever heard, and walked away.
You stared at your drink. The ice was melting slowly, diluting the amber liquid into something weaker.
"You could've corrected him," you said, looking over at him with barely concealed flustered confusion.
"Could have," Kaeya agreed. He wasn't looking at you, was instead focused on something across the bar with that detached amusement he wore like a second skin. "Didn't seem worth the effort."
You let it go. It was small enough, harmless enough. Kaeya was always like thisāplaying into characters, scenarios, whatever amused him in the moment. And besides, this was the tavern. People were drunk, made assumptions, barely thought twice about anything. Everything Kaeya said carried that thin veneer of humor, that deliberate lightness that suggested nothing he did was ever meant to be taken seriously. This must have been yet another attempt at his particular brand of entertainment, or maybe an effort to fluster you. Which you weren't falling for. Obviously.
But a few days later, he suggested dinner at Good Hunter's. You'd gone, mostly because you were hungry and he was there. Sara smiled when she saw you two sit down underneath the parasol.Ā
āMaybe the both of you would like a seat thatās more private instead?ā She had suggested. Your face erupted into flames when she suggested that. And although you tried to correct it, Kaeya had already confirmed, and you found yourself in a shaded area to the side. The kind of area that everyone implicitly agreed was for honeymooning couples.Ā
You sat across from him, irritated, and tried to focus on your food. Kaeya, for his part, seemed entirely unbothered. He ate with deliberate slowness, and at one point he leaned across the table, his eye catching yours with a particular brand of teasing softness.
"You're scowling," he said, like it was an observation about the weather.
"I'm not scowling."
"You are." He reached over and tapped your forehead with one finger. "Right here."
You pulled back, but he'd already retreated, that infuriating smile still in place.
By the time you were walking back through the city, your irritation had crystallized into something sharper. Something that demanded to be addressed.
"What are you doing?" you asked, stopping abruptly in the middle of the street.
"Walking," Kaeya said simply. "Same as you."
"Don't be difficult. Everyone keeps thinking we're together and you're not correcting them. You're actuallyā" you gestured vaguely at the space between you, "āplaying into it."
He was quiet for a moment. Then he laughed, that low, warm sound that always seemed to come from somewhere deeper than his chest. When he looked at you, there was something in his expression you couldn't quite place. Something that felt almost like he'd been waiting for you to notice.
"I think you like it more than you're willing to admit," he said softly. His eye was half-lidded, that familiar amusement still there, but underneath it was something else. Something that made your chest feel tight.Ā "The question is whether I should keep pretending not to notice."
He was already walking ahead, already moving past you with that lazy stride of his, and you were left standing there, flushed and furious and unable to quite articulate why his assumption felt less like teasing and more like he'd read something in you that you weren't ready to show him.
Damn Kaeya.
LOHEN
The training grounds were filled with apprentice knights, all watching intently as you explained the formation they'd be running through. Lohen stood beside you, arms crossed, and you could already feel the restlessness radiating off him like heat.
"This is boring," he said, not bothering to lower his voice. "Just let them fight something real."
"They need to understand positioning first," you replied firmly, not even looking at him. "We're not sending them into the field unprepared."
"Unprepared is half the fun," he said, and you heard the grin in his voice.
You turned to face him. "You know what? Not everyone gets a thrill from almost dying."
"Their loss," he said, and there was something playful in his eyes, something that suggested he enjoyed getting a rise out of you. One of the younger apprentices nudged their friend, both of them watching the exchange with barely concealed amusement.
"This is why we have strategy," you continued, turning back to the group. "Lohen charges in andā"
"And it works," he interjected.
"And you get lucky," you corrected.
He laughed, "Lucky. Right. That's what we're calling it."
The training started smoothly enough. The apprentices moved through the formations you'd drilled into them, and you were positioned to observe and correct. Lohen was supposed to be doing the same, but his attention kept drifting, his foot tapping with barely contained energy. You could see him watching the apprentices with the kind of hunger that meant he was already bored. At one point, you caught him staring at you instead of the recruits, and when you raised an eyebrow in question, he just grinned wider.
After about an hour, one of the younger recruits approached as you and Lohen were standing together reviewing the performance. The recruit was still catching their breath, clearly impressed by how well the formation had held.
"It's lucky that the two of you are paired together," they said, glancing between you both. There was genuine respect in their voice. "Aren't the two of you together?"
The moment those words left the apprenticeās mouth, you could see something wicked shine in Lohenās eyes. You opened your mouth to clarify, but Lohen moved before you could. He crossed the distance between you in a few strides and pulled you against his side, his arm wrapping around your waist like it had always belonged there. Your face went hot immediately, but he was looking at you with that chaotic grin of his, like he'd just been handed the best entertainment of his day.
"And she's the only person who could ever keep up with me," he said, loud and theatrical, and you could tell he was leaning into it now, performing for the apprentices. You felt your cheeks burn as you realized what he was doing, deliberately making a show of it, spinning this into something bigger just to see you get flustered. The manic energy was at full throttle, and he was clearly enjoying every second of your embarrassment.
Your face went hotter. One of the apprentices bit their lip to keep from smiling, while another looked away, clearly uncomfortable with the display. But most of them were watching with interest, waiting to see what would happen next.
"Lohenā" you started, trying to extract yourself, but he didn't let go. His grip on your waist was firm, not painful, just insistent.
"And she's brilliant," he continued, spinning you slightly so he could look at you properly. His hand was still on your back, and he was looking at you with an intensity that made your breath catch. "Everything I'm not. Everything that keeps me from getting killed in a ditch somewhere." There was something underneath the chaos when he said it, something that suggested he meant it more than he was letting on.Ā A few of the recruits exchanged glances, and one of them smiled knowingly.
"You'd be lost without her," one of the bolder apprentices called out, earning a few quiet laughs from the others.
"Completely lost," Lohen agreed, but there was something in the way he said it that wasn't entirely joking. For just a moment, the manic energy seemed to settle, and he looked at you like you were the only thing in the training grounds that mattered. "Actually, yeah. I would be."
Then he released you, and the chaos returned. He was already moving away, already tossing some comments to the apprentices about formation angles, leaving you standing there flustered and hyperaware of every eye on you.
The rest of the training passed in a blur of corrections and positioning. By the time you finally dismissed the apprentices, your face had only just stopped burning. Lohen was already collecting his things, and you found yourself watching him move with that restless energy of his, wondering what he'd actually meant in that moment when everything had seemed to pause.
THOMA
You were sitting in one of the Kamisato estate's quieter rooms, mending a tear in one of the ceremonial clothes when Thoma appeared with tea. He set it down beside you without asking and settled into the seat across from you.
"That's going to take forever," he said, watching you work the needle through the delicate fabric.
"Only if I rush," you replied, concentrating on your stitching. "You taught me that."
He smiled at that, leaning back and watching you work. It was comfortable, the kind of silence that didn't need filling. You'd been coming to this room more often lately, always finding some reason to be here. Mending. Reading. Just sitting. And somehow Thoma always seemed to find his way in.
After a while, he got up and moved to sit beside you instead. He didn't ask permission. He just shifted closer until his shoulder nearly touched yours. He picked up a different piece that needed mending and started working on it without preamble.
"You're still doing that stitch wrong," he said after a while, no judgment in his voice.
"I know," you said, not bothering to correct yourself. "But you always fix it for me anyway."
He smiled, and you swore you could see the pupils of his green eyes dilate a fractional amount. His hand came over yours, guiding the needle through the proper motion. His fingers were warm, and he moved slowly, making sure you understood. When he pulled back, you found yourself missing the contact.
You worked like that for a long time. Sometimes he'd hum something soft under his breath. Sometimes you'd ask him about his day, and he'd answer while still focused on the mending. At one point, you reached for more thread at the same moment he did, and your hands brushed. Neither of you moved away.Ā You both just continued working, shoulders close, existing together in the quiet of the afternoon.
"You're thinking too hard," he said once, glancing at your face.
"How can you tell?"
"You get this little crease," he said, reaching over and smoothing it away with his thumb. It was such a gentle gesture that you forgot to breathe for a moment.
You were so focused on the mending that you didn't notice when Ayaka appeared in the doorway. She had a few attendants with her, but she stopped when she saw the two of you sitting close together, heads bent over the work, your shoulders nearly touching.
"Oh, there you two are," she said warmly. "I've been meaning to mention something." Thoma looked up, and you followed his gaze.
"There's a couples' festival coming up at the end of the month," Ayaka continued, her tone genuinely kind.Ā
"I thought perhaps you two might enjoy attending together. It would be nice for you to have some time away from the estate."
You felt your face warm. Thoma's reaction was immediate. His entire face flushed a deep red, from his neck all the way to his ears. He set down the cloth quickly, maybe too quickly, like he needed something to do with his hands.
"Oh, we'reā" he started, his voice slightly strained. He cleared his throat, and when he spoke again, he was trying for his usual politeness, but the fluster was unmistakable. "We're not actually together, Lady Ayaka. We just spend a lot of time together because of work, that's all."
The correction was gentle, the way everything Thoma did was gentle. But there was something in the way his hands gripped the cloth a little too tightly, the way he wouldn't quite meet Ayaka's eyes, that made your chest tighten. One of the attendants looked faintly disappointed.
Ayaka's expression softened with understanding, and she nodded. "I see. My apologies for the misunderstanding." She excused herself politely, and the moment she left, the room felt smaller somehow.
You picked up your mending again, but your hands felt clumsy. Thoma did the same, but neither of you were really focused on the work anymore. The ease you'd had before was gone, replaced by something tense and uncertain. The afternoon light filtered through the screens, and the silence stretched between you, heavy with things unsaid.
When the sun started to set and you finally set down your work, Thoma was already moving. You said something soft to break the tension, just to ease it.
"That was kind of awkward," you said quietly, not quite looking at him.
He paused, his hand lingering on the cloth. You could see him turn it over in his mind, searching for something.
"I didn't mean to be rude," he said, finally meeting your eyes. "She was just... it caught me off guard."
"I know," you said, offering him a small smile. "It's fine. These things happen."
He looked at you for a long moment, and there was something in his expression that made your breath catch. Something that looked like regret, like he was reconsidering something he'd just said.
"Actually," he said, and his voice was steadier now, "about that festival."
You looked at him, waiting.
"It might not be a bad idea," he continued, and there was a careful consideration to his words, like he was choosing each one deliberately. "For us to attend together, I mean. Not because anyone thinks we should. But because..." He paused, searching for the right words. "Because I'd like to spend that evening with you. If you'd want to."
Your breath caught slightly. There was nothing casual about the way he said it, despite how carefully he was choosing his words. There was intention there, and something that looked a lot like hope.
"Yeah," you said softly. "I'd like that."
VENTI
Venti had dragged you out to yet another performance. You weren't sure why he felt the need to do thisāinvite you specifically, stand you in a particular spot in the crowd where he could see you, like your presence mattered to the mechanics of him playing. But he'd shown up at your door this morning with his elfish smile and asked if you were busy. A pointless question, really. He would have begged and whined until you relented had you said no.Ā
On the way to the fountain, he'd been insufferable. He kept humming fragments of melodies, stopping abruptly to ask your opinion on them, then laughing at your answers like you'd said something hilarious when you were just trying to be helpful. At one point he'd grabbed your wrist and spun you around on the street for no reason, just to see your expression, probably.
"You're going to make me dizzy," you laugh, pulling your hand back.
"Is that a complaint, windblume?" he asked, and there was something in his tone that suggested he already knew the answer.
"Yes," you lied.
He had just smiled like he could see right through you.
Now, standing near the fountain while he set up, you watched him adjust his lyre with great care; the kind of care reserved for especially special things in oneās life. Which, for Venti, was music andāyou were noticing more and moreāyou.Ā
He kept glancing over at you, making sure you were in the right spot, making sure you could see him properly. You found it funny, it was almost like a nervous tick. A flick of his gaze to you every few seconds to make especially sure that you had your eyes on him. It was unnecessary. Of course you could see him. You were always looking at him anyway.
Another bard approached as Venti was finishing his setupāsomeone you recognized vaguely from around the city. They exchanged greetings, the kind of easy familiarity that suggested they knew each other from the musician's circles. You turned your attention back to the fountain, not really listening until the other bard said something that made you tune back in.
"Your recent stuff has been different," he was saying to Venti. "All of it sounds like it's about the same person."
You felt something shift in your chest. His recent stuff? You hadn't really paid that much attention, if you were being honest. But now that it was being pointed out, you found yourself wondering if that was true.Ā
You'd been hearing him play new things lately, pieces you hadn't heard before, and now you were suddenly wondering who they were about.
The bard glanced over at you, then back at Venti, and you watched something click into place behind his expression.
"That your muse?" he asked, gesturing vaguely in your direction.
Venti laughed. It was the kind of laugh that made people turn their heads, that seemed to move through the air like something physical. He spunāactually spun, his coat catching the lightāand when he looked at you, there was something deliberate in the movement.
"The best one I've ever had," he said, and he was looking directly at you when he said it.
Your face went hot. The other bard laughed too, charmed, and the conversation continued between them, but you weren't really listening anymore. You were stuck on that phrase, on the way Venti had said it, on the realization that apparently his recent compositions had been about you and you'd been too oblivious to notice.
An hour later, after the performance was over and you'd managed to slip away, you found yourself at the tavern. You were nursing a drink when Venti sat down beside you. He waved a hand to the bartender, and Charles just sighedāa routine. And then Ventiās gaze was fixed on you.
"You've been thinking about what I said," he observes.
"I haven't," you say, which is a lie and you both know it.
"Mm." He's amused. You can hear it in his voice. "That's exactly why youāve been zoning out since myĀ performance?ā He had that teasing lilt in his voice. You wanted to puncture his voice box.Ā
"You can't just say something like that and expect me not toā" you start, then stop because you're not actually sure what you're going to say. Expect you not to what? Wonder if he meant it? Wonder what it means? Wonder if you're reading too much into it?
"Not to what?" Venti prompts, and there's that tilt of his head again, that soft amusement in his expression.
"You know what," you snap, trying not to sound flustered.Ā
Venti, all he does is laugh. You really want to puncture his voice box.Ā
thanks so much for reading!!

I just had an epiphanyā Ragbros-coded owls.
(Kaeya ā Barn owl)
(Diluc ā Stygian owl)
Because of these:
Will something come of it? Maybe, maybe not.
If I was in a fanfiction and started coughing up flowers while working at a flower shop (because this is a flower shop au) I would NOT connect my crush on the tattoo artist next door to the flower cough situation. I would freak the fuck out and think the pollen at work was doing some Last of Us shit to me, quit my job and move FAR away. inadvertently my flame for the tattoo artist would fade with distance, solving my hanahaki situation and proving my 'the flowers were trying to turn me into a plant zombie' theory
Ubi amo, ibi patria ...
(Also known as headcanons of being in a romantic relationship with Kaeya Alberich that I promised weeks ago)
A/N: Proofread as much as possible, please forgive me if there are any grammatical errors, I've been working on this post for so long the words are melting into alphabet cereal
Kaeya doesn't have a fixed type. He's met people from all walks of life and has developed a more open mind than most, especially because of his expeditions. However, he prefers a romantic partner who can keep up with him intellectually.
By this I don't mean you need to have a high IQ or be a chess champion; I mean you have to entertain intelligent conversation. Conversations with him aren't just bland discussions on politics or what weather you're having today (although he will participate for your sake), his topics of choice are usually extremely abstract or philosophical in nature. Expect debates and what-ifs that can range from ridiculous to thought provoking. He's also fond of deep discussions on whatever book, drama or even a TCG card that catches his interest.
If you're the type who shoots down flights of fancy or are extremely unimaginative (Iām talking about someone who says āOh, I canāt think of anythingā when offered an extremely basic role-play scenario) , Kaeya will get bored. He's a man who appreciates a challenge and enjoys pondering in general, so if you keep trying to pull him down to Teyvat all the time you'll find the romance fizzling out quickly.
As a lover, you will also be Kaeya's sounding board. Kaeya's job has him brainstorming solutions almost constantly and sometimes he needs help organizing his thoughts. So he'll bounce a few of his ideas off of you if you have the time, even more often if you're receptive. You don't have to contribute to solving the problem, just saying his ideas out loud helps him make sense of the storm in his head. Sometimes he'll accidentally slip into cribbing about his work and annoyances or the incompetency of the latest recruits. He doesn't mean to, but it happens. At this point you'll be his closest confidant so you really can't blame him.
Speaking of work, the most you'll get of Kaeya (save for bumping into him while in the city) is on government holidays and the weekend. Unfortunately he's a busy man and is already out the door by sunrise (we have to remember he's military and they have crazy reporting hours) and returns almost close to midnight. If you're living in (which will come much, much later into the relationship) and are already in bed by then, he'll snuggle against you as quietly as he can. If he wakes you up he'll murmur an apology and give you a chaste kiss on the lips, or wherever he can manage, and promptly falls asleep.
This man deals with official business and gathering intel so he's pretty much dead when he gets back home. On days he can afford to leave the tavern early, he rushes straight back to you. He's still tired though, so he's more loose lipped and cuddly than he usually is.
If you're awake on a busy day, you'll get to see a rare dog-tired Kaeya. He still smiles at you and presses his lips softly against your own in greeting but his flair for dramaticism is visibly muted. He'll still sass you but he's surprisingly direct. If you're both in the mood for it, he won't mind sharing a glass of wine with quiet conversation. But after his ablutions he heads straight to bed. Pillow talk- and sex- is more of a weekend thing.
Due to his schedule, dates are often brunches. He'd prefer not to bring you to the tavern because technically he's still working then. He can't really concentrate on eavesdropping or interrogating with you right around the corner. Especially because Kaeya has to play the 'bad guy' on many occasions and he'd rather you not see that part of him, especially when he could rather entertain you and make you laugh over a Chicken Mushroom Skewer or Sticky Honey Roast at the Good Hunter. Besides, it gives him more one on one time with you.
I've already mentioned this in my other posts, but Kaeya doesn't trust easily. He tests the people around him whenever the mood strikes him and silently gauges their reactions to predict their next moves. This still applies to you as a lover.
He will test your loyalty. It's not that he doesn't trust you but he is incredibly insecure, a fact he tries to cover with his devil-may-care attitude. He'll watch from the upper floor of Angel's Share as you search for him below, twirling the stem of his glass. His lone eye will not waver from you as the man he pressured into approaching you does his task- an admittedly weak attempt to woo you after all you've seen of Kaeya.
How you respond is carefully catalogued in his head, every micro-expression stripped and sorted for analysis after. But don't fret, if he sees you're genuinely uncomfortable he will come for you, playing the knight in shining armor as he waves the man off. The other won't mind, the comfort of mora jingling in his pouch is much greater than the offense.
Is this a red flag? Yes. Does he want to manipulate you on purpose? No. The thing is, it is important to realise that Kaeya is not a soft man. He may be caring, thoughtful and enjoys taking care of you but this doesn't disregard his secrecy and 'the ends justify the means' mindset. So if you're expecting a soft lover boy, you will get him... along with the occasional sting (but let's admit it, every Kaeya simp has a thing for degradation).
As for taking care of you, on the occasion that you fall ill expect to be coddled by him. He'll take an off from captaining (yes, Jean knows it's an excuse for him to go home, but she doesn't have it in her to say no) and spend the day playing nurse with you instead. If you're stubborn he'll chastise you and drag you back to bed (but he will refrain from kissing you on the mouth, he has far too many responsibilities to fall sick). If you're content to be taken care of, and even order him around, he will tease you but assist most efficiently. If it's something serious he'll try to cheer you up and distract you as much as he can- though it's more of an effort to ignore his mounting anxiety.
He also doesn't mind reading to you if you'd like it. In fact he has plenty of experience with story-telling and will do his best to save you from boredom. If you want some quiet time instead he'll just read by himself beside you, checking up on you intermittently to give you your meds.
If he's the one who's sick he will deny it until he physically can't anymore. Then he's quite eager to be taken care of and though he will still tease you, you can tell he genuinely enjoys being taken care of by you. The guilt sets in when you've been taking care of him for a while, if the illness is extensive. He assures you he'll be fine without you spreading yourself thin for his sake, but if you insist he drops the matter quickly. Kaeya knows the burdens someone can carry for the sake of love. The last thing he'd want to do is make things harder for you by being stubborn.
Now, everyone knows this man is always looking out for fun. If you're with him, better be prepared for a lot of impromptu adventures- whether that be exploring Mond night life or a long walk to Windrise and back. Monotony is kicked out the door when Kaeya is around.
But of course, he is perceptive. If you can't always keep up with him he's capable of respecting that, though don't expect to be let off without a tease.
"My, my. Who know the great (Name) was such a slacker?"
"I see someone's already preparing for retirement. Will you have me helping you cross the street next? Haha, alright, I won't pressure you."
That being said, if you are more of a homebody most of this exploration is mental. Like I said, he values intellectual conversation so he'll constantly think of new topics for discussion... or just blurt out whatever is on his mind. If he gets too bored though, he will resort to pranks. Don't worry, nothing particularly malicious, but definitely mildly inconveniencing. Stuff like mixing up condiments or surprising you with icey hands.
Still, he would appreciate a trip outside once in a while, lest boredom gnaw on his brain to numbness.
Gift-giving, acts of service and quality time seem to suit his love style. Words of affirmation did seem applicable too but we have to remember he's trained himself to say what the other wants to hear and how they want to hear it. Perhaps this may bleed into the beginning of your relationship but the more he relaxes around you he drops the sickly sweet praises in favor of something more genuine. Compare his earlier praises for the traveler to his highest friendship level line for context.
I've mentioned this earlier, but Kaeya is an amazing listener. The kind of person who, even if they may not have the slightest clue about what you're info-dumping about, will nod and add his own remarks. This is one of the rare moments where you get to see him drop the "tall, dark and handsome" charade and just stare at you with this dopey smile that's almost alien on him. Your excitement seems to bleed into him and he eagerly reciprocates.
Coming to the point of affections, I do see him into a pda but it varies with the situation. I don't think he'd hold your hand and frolic on the streets, instead he'd offer you his arm.
It's surprisingly traditional for him, but the learnings of a noble household are hard to forget. Especially when they serve him well. It's also a romantic way of 'claiming' you to speak. Kaeya is not violently possessive to the point of restricting you, but his insecurity of losing you can manifest in gestures like these.
He'll be all smug about it, calling you lucky as his chest fills with pride. If you didn't know any better, if he was preening himself on your attention.
But it's all a cover for the warmth gathering at the tip of his ears.
"Blushing? Me? Hah, you have quite the imagination, my dear."
"A bounce in my step...? Has Jean been lending you her novels? I didn't realize you were such a romantic!"
But he'd prefer this out of office. After all, his subordinates already find him questionable and he doubts they'd respect the sight of their captain skipping about with his arm looped with yours.
When at work his love gets more subtle. He'll give you a smile as he passes, brushing against you as he murmurs "Wait for me, I shan't be too long" or a silent conversation through looks alone, especially if you're in the same room.
(He searches for you amidst the crowd as the ambassador continues her audacious tirade. He leans forward to smother his growing smirk when he finds you and you see him tilt his head almost imperceptibly to the side. But it barely lasts. When Jean looks over he's back to his previous impassive attention, as if the little exchange with you had never happened.)
He doesn't shy away from kisses either, both in public and private (though please don't expect one when he's being watched on official business). Your poor, unsuspecting self will be attacked by surprise pecks on the cheek at every turn when out in the city. Particularly during shopping.
The soft pressure on your upper cheek shocks you out of your daydreams and you're greeted by that familiar, self-satisfied grin. "Well hello there." Kaeya holds you by the waist, already reaching for your grocery bag with the other. "What a pleasant surprise to run into you here!"
"Slacking of? Me?" He huffed, pushing his lips into a pout and furrowing his brow. The dilating star of his eye reminded you of cat pawing at yarn. "How could you think so, when I have nothing but the highest regards for you, hm?" He steals away your rebuttal with a peck on your lips, smiling all the more as Marjorie hides her own with the back of her hand.
When not having his arm interlocked with yours, Kaeya enjoys guiding you gently with a hand on the small of your back. Itās his own way of saying ātaken!ā without being all over you. He fancies himself a gentleman, as trained by the Ragnvindrs, and will treat you as such.
Speaking of gentleman, he will carry your bags for you. If you refuse his assistance, he will huff and sulk until you give in. Whether itās your handbag, a shopping bag, a satchel, a purse, etc., he will relieve you of the load.
āPlease, let me.ā He flexed his bicep subtly, your groceries dangling on his arm. The way heās beaming at you is almost boyish and young, as if the slyness had never been there. āWhatās the use of lifting if I canāt lift your burdens?ā
āWhat do you mean āthatās cheesyā? Is chivalry dead to you? Iāll have you know itās the mark of a true Knight of Favonius!ā
But of course, as the Cavalry Captain there is only so much time he can spend with you. Expeditions can take him away for months and despite his love for you, his duty as a knight comes first. He clears his schedule and prepares before time to spend the last few days before the journey with you, whisking you out on dates of a more private nature. He also gets quieter during this period and lets you do most of the talking, content with holding your hand and thumbing your pulse as he nods along. There is a heaviness to him despite his graceful gait; his gaze lingers on you and his smile seems hollow and strained.
Kaeya is a careful man, but he acknowledges the risks that come with his line of work. It didnāt seem to matter too much in the beginning, though thoughts of Klee andā though heād never admit itā Diluc had curbed his recklessness, with you it felt like a different burden altogether. You who had so much faith in him, you who would wait for him into the early hours as he sweet talked all sorts of folk in the tavern, you whose laugh he adored the most; ambrosia in the city of wine and song⦠he almost scoffed at the thought. Look at him. How many times had he sworn to never open his heart to another? Yet here he was, holding your wrist like a sailor clinging to a rotting plank. And what if he couldnāt come back? What if he kept you waiting forever?
For once Kaeya surrendered the silence to the chirping crickets, having little faith in his voice with the thickness of his throat. The rhythmic pulse of your vein beat against his thumb and he adjusted your head against him. If you had commented, he had only smiled. Whatever playful rebuke came to mind died long before it reached his tongue. He felt your pulse once more, breathing in quietly. Like it or not, your heart was another burden to bearā though a much more appreciable sort.
His cryo vision caught the setting sun, flashing suddenly in the corner of his eye. His attention drifted to it and he reached to fiddle with the holder. Sometimes heād take the sphere out and turn it this way and that, though it was usually the long nights that made him do so . By now he was sure heād be able to tell the make blindfolded, groove for groove.
His stomach churned at the sudden heat that passed over him. Flames erupted in the eye of his mind, engulfing his entire right side, eating away the uniform he no longer donned. It twisted this way and that in its barbaric dance as it sunk its amorphous fangs into his skin and feasted in delight. He felt the boils fester and swore the afternoon breeze carried the stench of burning flesh and leather.
Then he blinked and the flames were gone. He flexed the fingers of his right hand, an odd emptiness occupying the dread that consumed him prior.
Kaeya smiled, a dreadfully determined thing he was glad you couldn't see. Here he was, a living threat to Celestia, reject of the Heavenly Principles and cast out of the only family he'd come to know. Yet you'd let him hold you? You, who could not fathom the lengths he would go to for the sake of this city, and now, you?
Well then. It would seem he would have no choice but to return to you alive and well. No matter the cost.
But don't think he'll leave you completely alone. See, Kaeya always has his eye on you, even from Sumeru or even Inazuma if his travels take him that far. Why, he has Vile and a dozen other informants all around Mondstadt, his eyes and ears away from home. They're already looking after the Knights, Treasure Hoarders and the Winery, so why not add little you to their roster? Don't worry, nothing too invasive. Just to check if someone is giving you trouble, how your health seems from a distance, if you've gotten into trouble yourself if no one's given it to you already and how you're doing in general. And... well... if your eyes wander in his absence.
He also keeps in contact through letters as often as he can. He writes in a descriptive, almost story-like way that makes it easier for you to imagine you're there with him. And he expresses how he'd love for that to happen in each one. If his absence is particularly long he'll send you little gifts and trinkets long with them. Never wine though. Oh no, "The bliss of Death After Noon can only be truly relished in the presence of your fine company", as he'd say so himself.
Surprisingly there is a lot of tough love with him. Yes, he'll give you cheesy one liners, yes he'll hold the door open for you and yes he'll go on numerous soliloquies into the early hours of lone nights for your sake. But he will also call you out if you deserve it and will not be gentle about it.
Kaeya eyes your hunched form from the doorway, though you do not see the slightest bit of sympathy on his face. "I assume you'll be working till dawn again?" His silvery voice is flat, holding none of the usual animation. "How typical of you to push work to the penultimate moment despite-", he held up his fingers one by one as he counted, "-one, two- four days time! Really, you absolutely must hold class on the art of procrastination." Whether you accept his words in begrudging silence or turn back to give him a tongue lashing of your own, Kaeya's lips remain firmly pressed into a thin frown. You get the feeling that you've disappointed him more than you've upset him.
He has a similar disposition during arguments. Cold and snide, painfully direct. Kaeya will stand up for himself even if he desires your companionship, so if he believes he's in the right you best be prepared for a long battle of the wills.
But he rarely raises his voice in them. He doesn't need to. Kaeya faces extremely volatile political situations on a weekly basis and he knows how to use his patience to unnerve his opposer.
If you're the type to take on a more aggressive defense or are prone to going ballistic often- he'll let you scream your heart out and brand him with insult after insult, all the while watching comfortably while resting his cheek on his palm. Don't worry, he is listening, but he's also preparing to unleash the most soul-shattering jabs at your character the moment you stop for breath. And he won't falter if you speak over him, instead he'll continue in that low, eerily level tone. His eye will never leave yours. But if you continue to be unreasonable (i.e. not hear his side out) he will simply walk away and ignore you until you're ready to be civil. Even then he is full of condescension.
But if you're the type to avoid conflict or are sensitive to it, he will be gentler. But he'll still make it clear he's upset. He will refrain from any snide digs, though it's hard; he has a tendency to get snappy when defensive. Arguments are resolved surprisingly amicably if you're open to just talking it out without any finger-pointing or name calling. Just keep in mind that if you dish something out with an intent to hurt him, he'll give it back to you ten times worse.
In fact, there's actually a way to tell when Kaeya's mad at you. He'll try to maintain casual and open body language, but if you look closely he's actually quite stiff. Physically restraining himself from saying something ugly - because Kaeya Alberich does not in fact want to get ugly with you. Condescending quips corrupt his playful sassiness and his lax smiles tighten. People usually look away when they get defensive or feel threatened, but Kaeya is one of the few who's stare doesn't waver. In fact it becomes harder and more- for the lack of better word- dead. Think of Cillian Murphy's iconic death stare as Thomas Shelby but imagine he's smiling (which, if you ask me, makes it much worse), that's the closest I can get to an example.
It's not that he's trying to intimidate you (though it definitely serves him well when he's interrogating someone), there are just a thousand possible outcomes he's predicting from what he'll say to you- especially how he'll say it- and he just defaults to 'empty'. It's actually one of his most vulnerable moments because he's steeling himself for whatever is coming after. The problem with him is that you have to figure out most of his cues by yourself because he will not risk opening up too much about his inner world. One, because it's ruined him before, two, because he doesn't know how to be emotionally open anymore after years of suppressing them.
You can't just tell him "Everything is fine now that I'm here, I believe in you and love you and you don't have to hide around me, I know this in't the real you," and actually expect him to go "Oh, I'm such a fool for hiding my true self after having secrecy instilled in me during my formative years which has both stressed and traumatized me and still does! Let's hug it out and make love and talk about how much we love each other!" . If you actually say that to him he will just stare at you for a good while. A few minutes actually. In absolute pin-drop silence. Then his shoulders will start to shake. Then he'll burst out laughing, slap his knees, collapse on the floor and wheeze like an asthma patient.
You stand absolutely frozen as the Cavalry Captain rolls about on your floor, wheezing and flopping like a dying fish. If it wasn't for his laughter you'd think he was being electrocuted by Lisa for delaying yet another book return. "Archons!" He gasps and you know he doesn't call on them often, "You're so- so-!" He doubles over in laughter again, rubbing a tear rolling down his cheek. ... His laugh dies down shortly and he just... lays there catching his breath. Slowly, he sits up and rubs his face. His lips twitch into a smile again despite himself when he gazes up at your confused and embarrassed self. "The real me? Really?" He huffs out something that sounded somewhere between scoff and a sigh, though he looks quite endeared yet annoyed. "Did you try to compete with Dahlia's tolerance? You call me a sap and yet here you are spouting a drunk bard's prose."
Thankfully, Kaeya does not get mad often. Even when he' had an exceptionally foul day he'll give you plenty of signs- or just straight up ask you- to give him some alone time. The only time I see him actually getting mad is if you cross a boundary, such as poking around his study, not giving him space, pestering him for his secrets or forcing his eyepatch off.
You can also trigger his anger if you doubt him or his words, i.e. accuse him of being a liar (though this is a more reasonable argument considering he will hide plenty of secrets from you) like everyone else does. If Kaeya loves you, it's because he feels comparatively safe with you than most others. If you start to doubt him it's nothing less than heartbreak for him, which is why he reacts so strongly to it.
But then in this case, he does know he's in the wrong and it's unfair to you. It will take a day or two of distance for him to come crawling back with none of his dramatized bravado in sight and actually apologize to you. Kaeya may have pride that borders on arrogance, but he's not an asshole- well, at least not that big an asshole, as he consoles himself- and he will accept his mistakes and try to be better.
Overall, I won't say a romantic relationship with Kaeya is easy (are any of them?) and he's definitely has his... issues. But you will not find many men as sweet and devoted as he is. He has his secrets and he has his trouble, his future is uncertain and he finds himself obsessing over it constantly. But one thing he is certain about is that he is absolutely, irrevocably, ridiculously in love with you.
And maybe, just maybe, he'll try taking that chance he took three years ago. But there's still a long way to go before he even considers it.
A/N: Well, I hope you like this. Once again, thank you so so much for reading and loving my work!
There was initially going to be an NSFW portion for this but I cut it out at the last moment. Might consider posting NSFW headcanons of him after, though I'm not too confident about writing smut. Let me know if I you all want it.
Well, take care of yourself now, till the next post!
Kaeya Relationship Headcanons:
A list of my headcanons on pursuing a relationship with Kaeya (both platonic and romantic).
Strangers/ Acquaintances:
Judging by his behavior in the webtoon and game, how Kaeya treats you in the beginning varies deeply on his intentions with you.
He is wary, but not necessarily unkind. He will be respectful but will tread with understandable caution.
When meeting the Traveler for the first time (how could we ever forget that intro?) Kaeya says:-
āYouāve actually got the power to go up against the dragon. Are you a new ally⦠or a new stormā¦?ā
Obviously, itās natural to be suspicious of a stranger from āafarā who showed up out of nowhere, pelted one of the Four Winds with energy pellets and claimed to want to help for a minimal favour in return. But note that in his case this trait is especially highlighted (āFrom afar. Is that all we know of them?ā) compared to other characters from Mondstadt. Even if we take into consideration that times were hard and the Knights gladly accepted any who would help, letās not forget Kaeyaās first quest. Yes, the Harbinger of Dawn one.
Your help in saving Mondstadt had earned you the trust of everyone⦠except for Kaeya. So naturally he decided to test you and take care of official work at the same time. Two birds with one stone!
And regardless of the outcome, heād have a clear sketch of your character in the never ending archive in his mind. Heāll have something to predict your moves and your intentions- no matter where you stand with him after.
Looking at Thoma, Mika and Sucroseās case shows us a different side. Neither of them are particularly intimidating and the latter two are more than socially anxious. With Thoma, Kaeya shows a friendly interest in the affairs of Inazuma (another headcanon of mine Iāll touch upon later) because he doesnāt feel threatened immediately. The same applies to Mika and Sucrose except heās the one whoās trying to break the ice with jokes and gentle teasing (but as itās revealed in the voice lines, that only made them more nervousā¦).
So in short, to even be considered a friend (let alone a close one) youāll have to prove it to him. Multiple times maybe. If youāre shy or quiet by nature heāll be gentler with you, but heāll probably test you in more subtle ways.
But if he suspects you of something nefarious? Like he did with Collei?
Haha, no, youāve got another thing coming.
Expect snide comments, sarcasm 24/7 and anything that falls within an acceptable range of aggression. (Note: āAcceptableā here means something that wont get his badge of office ripped off or wonāt upset Jean⦠too much). He will literally bully you into giving up proof, calculating your nerve with serpentine precision. He might switch tactics if he needs to, but he will weed you out.
But donāt fret, heās capable of changing his attitude if you prove him wrong. (Again: As with Collei). Out of most of the characters in Genshin I can count off in my head, I think Kaeya is one of the few who actually puts in an effort to change his treatment of you.
I'd argue that the webtoon has the best representation of his early game behavior (although do take this with a grain of salt considering there are some inconsistencies) and gives a better idea of why he's considered shady.
Friendship
Oh? You've come this far? Congratulations, you're ahead of more than half the citizens of Mondstadt!
Whenever we see Kaeya, he is either by himself- probably in some dark corner thinking or just observing- taking care of official business or with the same set of recurring characters - Klee, Rosaria, Diluc (is there someone else I'm forgetting? I can't remember-). I've already explained that Kaeya picks his companions with much prudence and if he starts hanging around you more it's definitely a sign that you're getting there.
Thanks to the whole "Everybody Loves The Traveler" system we get to see more of his softer side (Paimon please stop doubting him, it hurts his feelings-) and he definitely becomes more vocal about his care for us (which is a nice parallel to Diluc who I find struggles with vocally expressing care).
Comparing the āMore About Kaeyaā voicelines shows us his method of opening up.
For example,
āThe title of Cavalry Captain is nothing to get excited about. Now that I think about it, the Grand Master took all the cavalry from Mondstadt so there's none left for me to captain...ā
The first thing he tells you about himself. Pretty normal, common knowledge in Mondstadt and he subtly tells you heās not a big deal- perhaps hoping for a friendship with no professional boundaries? Or a way to lower your guard?
It could be either, or it could be both. Adelinde herself says heās a complicated character.
āThere are a total of ten captains within the Knights of Favonius. But truth be told, not all of them have what it takes to be leaders.ā
This one has more of a personal touch to it, but heās still not telling you anything about himself despite it being labelled as āMore About Kaeyaā.
āMy eye? My eye is fine. There's nothing unusual about hiding one's body parts from view. It's the same reason I wear pants... or any other item of clothing, for that matter.ā
āKhaenri'ah, huh? You sure know a lot! The legacy of Khaenri'ah is long gone. The sinners are all that's left, and they're not worth mentioning.ā
In both these cases, youāve already reached a decent friendship level but he still deflects anything that comes even close to his heritage or his past with Diluc.
Especially the Khaenriāah one. His voice is especially clipped and the line is almost abrupt, like heās physically restraining himself from cursing the Five Sinners and giving away more about himself.
So even if Kaeya does let you in, there will still be plenty of secrets and questions for questions. He might let you in on his more casual troubles, but heās locked his past and reaching it is like unlocking a Luxurious Chest in Inazuma.
BUT-
āI didn't realize we'd known each other for so long now. Time flies! You know, following you on your journey might just be the most fun I've had in my whole life. I hope it stays that way.ā
āWe were just traveling partners. I never thought I'd have you to thank for getting me to this point. Seems I really should respond in kind. Let us carry on, partner. The road ahead is still long.ā
These two lines are achieved at Friendship Level 6 and Ascension Phase 6 respectively, the āmaxed outā lines as I like to call them.
So you see, just because his past and the unsavoury parts of his life are under lock and key doesnāt mean his affection for you is. Kaeya may be an incredibly complicated character, but he is still human. He still craves camaraderie (which might be why heās so eager to get to know people) and acceptance, both which he doesnāt receive easily because of his reputation.
He also strays away from transactional relationships for this very reason. Kaeya has multiple contacts and informers, but itās all a transaction. The knights (except for Jean, Lisa and maybe Amber- Iām still on the fence about her) under him have a pure boss - employee relationship (which may or may not be strained because of his methods). Thatās probably why he appreciates Rosaria so much, he has faith she isnāt drinking with him out of obligation. It might also be the reason why he plays āUncle Kaeyaā with the Mond kids, not only to preserve their sense of wonder and innocence but also because they havenāt learned to pretend like adults. Theyāre genuine- and Kaeya appreciates that in people.
But yes, expect the teasing. He has the wit and the charm and heās going to use it to make your life miserable (affectionately).
To summarise the friendship part:- heās a cat. Heās sweet and adoring but heās distant and youāll get scratched on occasion.
Romance
Honestly I think the moment Kaeya realises heās falling for you heāll take a step back.
Heāll brood in a corner again, looking more mysterious than usual while he falls apart on the inside. Heās smiling at you, thereās still that playful smirk but heās spiralling on the inside. The only people who are seeing through him are Diluc and Rosaria.
Heāll be lost in his thoughts around you, constantly calculating what to say and what not to. Casual grazes against you are micro-analysed till the early hours of the day when sleep evades him. Heās doomed and he knows it.
And if you choose to compliment him? Flirt a bit? Especially when you were shy before? Rosaria will need more than aspirin for the headaches Kaeyaās drunken rambles will give her. Of course, heāll brush it off with a āOho? Are you saying Iām special to you?ā or something along those lines as he did in his hang out, but heās always been excellent at pretending.
Youāll be dancing around each other, teasing and joking and sharing quiet moments that make you go āWhat are we?ā when the silent stretches too long. Very angsty. Very confusing.
Iām not sure if itās an unpopular opinion, but I think youāll have to confess first. Otherwise this song and dance can and will last for months, years even.
Assuming you two do manage to enter a relationship, Kaeya will be an absolute gentleman. Donāt get me wrong, he was raised to be one and he is, but heāll dial it up with you.
Carrying groceries? He has arms for a reason, strong ones too, he wonāt mind if you wanted to give them a squeeze. Feeling hot on a summer day? How fortunate it is to own a cryo vision! Now, how about you sit back and just let him re-chill your drink (alcoholic or not) and give you a cooling shower of snowflakes?
Heāll also try to involve you in his own interests. Expect to be shown a detailed analysis of the pros and cons multiple TCG cards . Oh youāre reading? You should check out the Adventurers of Angelos, perhaps you might like it! Oh, youāre into romance? A good thing heās friends with Jean, expect a list - and maybe even the books- in a few days.
This also goes your way. Share your interests with him, youāll never find a better listener.
I headcanon his major love languages are gift giving, words of affirmation and acts of service.
Speaking of gifts, prepare to be spoiled. His gifts may not always be particularly exuberant, but theyāre certainly unique. Especially when he goes on long distance missions, heāll scour the markets during his free time and take much longer to pick your gift than the ones for the others. Or if he canāt pick one, why not all? If you disapprove of him using government funds for your gifts then⦠well, what you donāt know canāt hurt you.
Heāll be strangely delighted and intimidated if you finally call his bluffs. That means youāre paying attention but that also means heāll have to double down on the lies that matter.
Heāll occasionally take you to Dawn Winery. The employees there are the closest thing to a family heās ever had and he feels obligated to break the news to them (Adelinde may or may not have your wedding date and babiesā names planned, Kaeya is scared but he canāt do anything about it).
Most arguments are resolved fairly quickly unless itās a matter of his secrecy. Kaeya is a patient and respectful man but if you try to forcefully barge your way into his fortress of a mind, you will only find towering ice walls and your frost-bitten fingers are useless against them.
He gets a lot more snappy, condescending and sarcastic when heās mad and serious arguments can last for a day or two. He does have some pride after all. But they also destabilise him and he retreats back to his shell to nitpick at the finer details and analyse them over and over. Should he make you cry, the cold front crumbles fairly quickly. But heās quick to catch crocodile tears and will tire of it if you exhaust him.
But as I said, I think there would be few arguments with him given his flexible, impromptu nature. I also have a few more headcanons but I think Iāve been blabbering for long enough-
Overall, Kaeya definitely has his faults and struggles with vulnerability, but he isnāt that hard to love. Heās a thoughtful and patient partner and even the dullest day is brightened by his antics. A romantic relationship with him is a lot like an extended friendship.
ever since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to be into shit no one cares about
