3 new books...

I ordered these two and the most recent of the 3 part short story books for the Lorien Legacies series. Seeing as I still haven’t finished UnBound, I wonder how long it will take me to get to these beautiful books.

On a side note, however, I have finished a couple of Kindle ebooks in the last few weeks. Since I can bring my phone with me to work and read during my break. Speaking of, if you haven’t read or heard of Backward Glass by David Lomax, it is most definitely a book I would recommend. It did get confusing at times but overall it was a damn good book.

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME

That NERVE is gonna be a movie?!?!  I’m usually so in the loop when it concerns things I love (AKA how I have been waiting years for the Unwind movie and that STILL HAS YET TO BE RELEASED)  Yet I knew nothing about the NERVE movie until I saw the preview when I went to see Now You See Me 2 tonight.  AND DO YOU KNOW HOW RIDICULOUS I MUST HAVE LOOKED BOUNCING AROUND IN EXCITEMENT?  Like from the first 3 seconds, before it really even explained the movie’s storyline.  I saw “a game of truth or dare” and “NERVE” and I lost my damn mind.

Still, at least this way I only have to wait a month to see the movie.

Can I just have the next book?  The ending for the Fate of Ten killed me a little inside.

The Fate of Ten & Rebel Allies

I met Lexa.  I learned more about Crayton and Ella and met Zophie before she was killed.  I got to see a bit of Mark as a loner and was glad to see that he wasn’t as bad about “winning” Sarah back.

And then I started and finished The Fate of Ten...

...and I love Sarah but it didn’t break my heart as much as it did when Eight died.  I think it may be because I’m still in denial, still believe she can somehow be brought back to life.  Granted I was sort of like that with Eight and I did get it for a short time before he was gone for good but.  HOW CAN YOU KILL OFF SARAH?  Killing off one great character was bad enough but now Sarah too?  Not to mention how worried I was when I thought Ella might die or even Marina.  And yet Setrakus Ra gets to walk off and live.

I read what I thought was a spoiler saying that Adam killed Setrakus Ra but that didn’t happen.  Since I hate spoilers, part of me is really glad that it didn’t.  But I also hate Setrakus Ra and everything he’s done and want him dead.  All of this is his fault.  How could he have betrayed his home planet like that?  Why was he given the power to take away powers?  How can that ever be a good thing?  And he betrayed his best friend.

It’s cool how some humans have Legacies now but I still very much feel like Sarah should have been one of them.  If she had been, maybe this situation wouldn’t be happening and she’d be okay.  I’m still holding onto hope that she somehow miraculously survives.

Also, personally, I really don’t care so much about Daniela right now.  That may change but at the moment, I feel like she’s such an unnecessary character.  Unless she ends up being the tenth dot Lexa saw in Rebel Allies.  If that wasn’t Ella.  I can’t get past that.  I feel like it’s a REALLY big important thing that shouldn’t be looked over.

My most important question is “Why do I have to wait another year to find out if Sarah’s going to somehow come back to life?”

I keep meaning to read either The Fate of Ten or The Lost Files:  Rebel Allies since I got my copies but with how much I’ve been working lately, I tend to only read tiny bits of kindle ebooks on my phone during my break.  And on my days off, I like to sleep in and watch TV and try to get house chores done.  Next time I have more than one day off in a row, I will start one of those.  Whenever that is.  Not to mention I’m planning on applying for a second job at a pet store.

Finished Still Photo by Kim Harnes and I am very disappointed with it.  I liked the first part of the book.  And then it shifted for the “plot twist” and went downhill from there.  I was really hoping for a nice horror/thriller ghost story.  Spoilers below.

Instead I got a “well this whole first part was made up in her head and her boyfriend didn’t exist and she killed her mom and she’s an angry murderous girl.  And has been in a mental hospital since she was nine for it.”

“...PS her mom may or may not have actually abused her and had an affair with her psychiatrist but you will never know for sure since she made up a lot of stuff in her head so it may or may not be true.”

I’m not a fan of books where the main character has made a world up in their head for any reason.  So yeah, definitely pissed me off when the book switched gears.

Between my last post on Hidden Enemy and now, I’ve finished 4 more books.  Taking Back Forever, Death Has a Daughter, Nearly Found, & Sweet.

Still 4 books behind but I’m working on it.  Currently reading Seven Second Delay and when I’m done with that, The Fate of Ten.  (I’d be reading The Fate of Ten already but Seven Second Delay is a library checkout so there’s a time limit.)  Can’t wait to see what Pittacus Lore has in store for me next.

Is the part of the Goodreads reading challenge feature that lets you see what books you’ve read so far broken for anyone else?  I just finished another book and I keep trying to access the feature but it’s not showing up.

The Lost Files:  Hidden Enemy

I just finished reading The Lost Files:  Hidden Enemy (Five’s Legacy and Five’s Betrayal, as well as Return to Paradise w/Mark) and it was brought up that Five was in the same base as Nine for a long while before John/Four ever showed up there, yet the charm only wore off after John/Four and Six met up.  And Six escaped before they caught Five, but I can’t remember if this was before they had Nine.  Still makes no sense to me but whatever.

PS:  Even though I’ve already read up to The Revenge of Seven and saw Five do something for someone other than himself (and I know these stories happened before that), I still hate him and it was sort of unbearable to read about him.  It pissed me off that he thought he was brainwashed by the Loric, that he thought the Mogs were actually giving him a choice (choose us or die really isn’t a choice dude), and that he put the blame for everything that happened -including things that were his own damn fault- on everyone else.  Mainly Nine.  He was brainwashed to hate Nine long before he even met him.

I’ll admit, Nine could have been a little less of an asshole but (1)He’s like that with everyone really and (2)Like I said before, Five was already brainwashed to hate him.  So I think any little thing would have set him off because he was already off.

I was just thinking about the Lorien Legacies series and how apparently once two or more Garde are together, the charm that makes it so they have to be killed in order is no longer in effect.  I’m thinking they probably had Six, Nine, & Five around the same time, and then Four, Six, & Five around the time 4 & 6 were in the New Mexico base  So wouldn’t it have been logical for the Mogs to kill them then?

I mean I’m glad it didn’t go in that direction because this series would have been over before it began, but it only makes sense.  My only conclusion is that the Mogs aren’t all that bright, even the more human ones.

Reading Update Sept. 5th

Finished Duplicity (and was slightly disappointed by it).

I started Nearly Found and Taking Back Forever and am not very far into either.

I have not read more of And Then I Found Out The Truth or Death has a Daughter.  Yet.

I started and finished another book called The Breakaway, which was also a disappointment.  I was hoping for more character growth by the end but didn’t get enough to leave me satisfied with the book...  Spoilers about why below.

I had a huge problem with the main character dating/”falling in love” with one of her abductors.  An abductor who I originally thought was her age, but found out at the end he was actually 10 years older.  Which made the whole thing much worse.  And I won’t be reading more of this series because the description for book 2 said she runs away with said abductor.

Because I’m so scatterbrained lately, I’m reading/trying to read 3 different books:  Duplicity by N.K. Travers, And Then I Found Out The Truth by Jennifer Sturman (I read the first one years ago so I barely remember what happened), and Death Has A Daughter by Candice Burnett.

I recently finished Flunked by Jen Calonita, Rag Doll by Troy McCombs, & Colony Z:  The Island by Luke Shephard.  The first one was decent but I wasn’t a fan of the last two.  Partly because they were short stories and I have issues with short stories (and I thought they were full novels with over a hundred pages), and the rest because I just didn’t find them interesting.

And I checked out Nearly Found by Elle Cosimano and Sweet by Emmy Laybourne (I enjoyed her Monument 14 trilogy).

After speaking to my friend who is currently reading the series, apparently Lev and Hayden have never interacted and this is unacceptable.  She hasn’t gotten to the end yet but now all I can think of is how great it’d be to have Hayden cracking sarcastic jokes to Lev.  And Lev's been in this dark place for such a long time but Hayden gets little smiles out of him, and from time to time, he actually makes him laugh...

Like a lot of Whollies are set to be unwound for being “unruly” and even though Lev was a tithe, he and Hayden were kind of on the same boat because they were never the ‘typical’ unwind.  Lev was the tithe and Hayden was a good kid who only got this terrible thing because his parents would rather him be unwound than let the other have him.  Both are complete bullshit.

I am having a small crisis because I just...  I don’t remember Lev & Hayden ever actually interacting in the Unwind series.  I plan on rereading eventually but right now I have no memory of that ever happening and it’s kind of upsetting since I imagine Hayden, Risa, Lev, & Connor to be close/good friends.

The girl I've seen the most (that Annie girl) is Spanish decent apparently, (though she doesn't seem it.) maybe if she tanned up she'd seem more? Though to be honest Annie is how I pictured Risa, facial structure and body wise. I didn't picture skin colour though, and she's an amazing actor, her newest Risa monologue my gosh. I did always picture Bam as umber though. I hope she is

I don't want you to get mad, but Risa isn't African-America. Possibly Mexican but Neal made a point of introducing a "umber" girl who could be Risa's twin if she were not umber. Just wanted to let you know. Xx

Nah not mad.  I don’t mind if she’s Mexican, I just pictured her as the way I fancasted her while reading the series.  Pretty much every other fancast I’ve seen has her as white and that sort of bugs me.  Not so much because I understand that everyone sees characters in their mind differently but Risa as white just seems off to me.
