Watched enola holmes 3 and thought “ooh this intro is setting up a cool plot” only to realise it was halfway through the film and that was it. Pmo. What a nothing sandwich.
Was so convinced it was setting up for the mum to be the villain, coz she said ‘you have to look behind the mask’ then instantly put on a mask, told enola sherlock was her favourite but later said he was a bore. All the characters were fucked up in hindsight though.
Not to mention Enola getting married?? It really felt like the plot was building up to her remembering that she doesn’t have to marry to be in love- or to be on her own. And somehow she was more dooksberry orientated than the last film with the will they won’t they plot. Dumbass name tickle-gore
Another warm up!! I do have actual pieces planned! I really like doing these swirly abstract (??) blobs, you literally just go off the dome- really good for practising fun colours!!

I don’t know if i have any specific advice i could give - but i can talk about my own process to see if it resonates with ppl
long post ahead:
first you start with an inspiration
be it a funny moment or a cool shot or even just a vibe - i like to write down literally every mildly interesting thought i have just in case- and so i have a plethora of inspo to pull from
i’ll use this comic as a reference because i have a good amount of the process on hand.
for this comic -> my inspo was the phrase ‘they don’t talk about it’ and was originally supposed to be about the felipe garzonas case -> your inspo doesn’t need to make its way into the final it just needs to get the ball rolling
now you break it up into a list of events - this one focused on dialogue which ended up being cut lol -> i think i lost the original list of events
next is breaking up the different events into pages - and making the list of events specific- each event is one panel(even smaller things) the panels don’t need to be arranged. this one is the breakdown for a single page:
next is the first draft of thumbnails - things will fit weird- time to figure out which panels are more important and get a rough layout going
finalish thumbnails - got most of the layout sorted- the pacing is the most important part in this stage, figuring out where dialogue will fit, and where to put dead space, and how your eyes follow the scene.
i like to work out most of the character expression in this stage- i find the sketchy nature makes the expressions more exaggerated
there are a lot of very good tutorials online that go over the “dos and don’ts” of comic composition(know the rules before you break them remember).

there are some great books out there that talk super in depth about more specific comic advice- i recommend “understanding comics” by scott mccloud as a starting point, i have procrastinated reading my other comic theory books so i can’t recommend them yet alas.
