I've always wanted to talk about how the gilmore girls fandom dismiss the parentification rory faced just bc it came in a sparkly pink label where she got to enjoy other perks like eating whatever she wanted and getting cool clothes and books.
now this is NOT lorelai slander, she's a flawed but well intentioned mother, and she did the best she could. I just wanna tap into the psychology of it all and how the fandom treats rory so unfairly.
the fandom is all about nuance and "two things can be true" unless it comes to rory and are just devoid of any empathy towards her even when she was a teenager! the scene where lorelai drags rory to a trip after the max incident was the most annoying thing ever for me bc of the lack of empathy people have for her.
maybe it's extra triggering to watch the responses for me bc my mom often treated me like a therapist too and would get upset when I acted like my age and refused to play her emotional caretaker (she also did the waking me up in my sleep to emotionally dump on me thing 😭)
but rory dealt with the situation the BEST she could for her age! she didn't ask lorelai about max the whole trip and only did when they got into bed, lorelai gets angry when she's not being allowed to sleep (which is something she literally did to rory like hours before) and flips the switch to teenage daughter after treating her like a best friend up until that point, how is rory not supposed to be confused? lorelai blurs the lines like crazy here, rory is her teenage daughter who she pulled in the middle of the night to help her get over the breakup, but also didn't share details, but also wanted rory to just go along and not be upset as a child.
two things can be true, lorelai provided for rory, made sure she had everything, and loved her, but it can also be true that rory was often put in situations where she had to take over the emotional caretaker role and wasn't allowed to be upset at situations or let her emotions out. she was expected to be the mature one in their relationship.
the scene was the perfect example of why rory turned out to be such a people pleaser in the later seasons and I wish the fandom understood this
people deny that she was parentified bc "lorelai didn't intend to" and it would make her look like a villian, but parentification isn't always intentional / or some calculated move. lorelai didn't mean to hurt her, but you don't have to mean to hurt someone to hurt them.
Yes!! The whole "Rory isn't just my daughter she's my best friend" thing isn't really something to admire. I love how close they are and again, I don't think Lorelai is this evil monster of a mother but there were so many times that Lorelai would involve Rory in things and all I could think was "why isn't she talking to Sookie about this instead." That's why when Rory would get her grandparents involved in her mother's affairs, though she overstepped, I understood why she'd think she had to. She was getting mixed messages!
Do y'all think shigaraki vaped
The way the backrooms worked in the movie reminded me of this weird psych fact that the only time you actually remember an event itself is the first time you think about it. Every time after that you're only remembering the memory, only part of the reason why memory is fallible.
For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.
Heyyy guess where I live
A local paper had some great photographs, all taken by Nicole Hester:
The day before, Rep. Justin Pearson tries to attend a Senate Committee meeting and is barred access by the Sergeant at Arms.
Lawmakers and protesters link arms as the descend the capitol steps.
Once inside the chamber, Democratic representatives continued to stand together with arms linked.
They continued standing together with arms linked as votes were cast.
Democratic representatives take a group photo protesting the redistricting.
Rep. Justin Jones burns a photo of the Confederate flag with the words, We will not go back.
And stomps the ashes.
KeShaun Pearson being escorted from the building by the Staties.
KeShaun Pearson (left) being taken into custody. Rep. Justin Pearson (right) showing his support of his brother.
Additional information: State lawmakers have been gunning for Pearson and Jones nearly their entire terms. Most notably, in 2023, the House expelled them for participating in a protest at the Capitol. Their districts had to have special elections to have them reinstated.
Pearson is one of the plaintiffs of a lawsuit seeking an injunction against the redistricting.
The city most affected by the redistricting is Memphis, where locals are fighting against xAI's data center, which has been operating with very little oversight and is poisoning the people who live there. Here is a previous post on that with more information and more sources.

Happy MHA season 8 to those who celebrate!🥂
It's so funny that Misa is famous. Imagine that you're a normal ass cop and you get put on a special task force to catch a mass murderer. And you meet with the expert detective in charge. And he tells you your top 2 suspects are a random teenager and like. Ariana grande

Lowk (High-key) thinking about Evangelion and Kantian Ethics rn
It's so crazy that I just happen to be human. I literally could have been born anything else, there is so much more of other species than humans alone. Yet I get to think complex thoughts and create stuff and wear cool clothes. I think that's pretty special and I should appreciate that more than I have.
They finally got to dance together in hell
