Controversial Truths About Ancient Egypt Masterpost
The pyramids were built by contemporary workers who received wages and were fed and taken care of during construction
The Dendera “lightbulb” is a representation of the creation myth and has nothing to do with electricity
We didn’t find “““copper wiring””” in the great pyramid either
Hatshepsut wasn’t transgender
The gods didn’t actually have animal heads
Hieroglyphs aren’t mysteriously magical; they’re just a language (seriously we have shopping lists and work rosters and even ancient erotica)
The ancient Egyptian ethnicity wasn’t homogeneous
Noses (and ears, and arms) broke off statues and reliefs for a variety of reasons, none of which are “there is a widespread archaeological conspiracy to hide the Egyptian ethnicity”
The carvings at Abydos aren’t modern machines but recarvings over old carvings. Sure they look like them but if you can read hieroglyphs and know that Ramesses II will even usurp the carvings of his own father just to be a little shit
‘No soot on the ceilings and walls of the Dendera temple!’ is actually because of extensive restoration works and not because Egyptians were in on shit like Baghdad “batteries”
While the Egyptians were fine-ass astronomers they didn’t align any of their enormous and/or important buildings to modern star constellations, because constellations look very different now than they did ~5000 years ago
The pyramid is the simplest, sturdiest shape with which to build and many different cultures discovered this in their own time. There were never any weird fish humans/aliens involved
The sphinx of Gizah is only an approximate 5000 years old; the 10,000 year/rain erosion nonsense is proven hokum
Speaking of that particular sphinx, the Napoleonic expedition is not responsible for its missing nose
Akhenaten was not a “heretic” by contemporary standards
Ramses II appropriated a lot of his predecessors’ buildings/reliefs and isn’t really deserving of the epithet “the Great”
The Battle of Kadesh ended in a stalemate (twice)
While they had feline deities throughout their history, Egyptians didn’t actually worship cats themselves. This was a later Greek/Ptolemaeic addition
It was not, in fact, practice to shave off eyebrows after cats died; Herodotus lied about that
Herodotus lied about a lot of things and many misconceptions about ancient Egypt can be traced back to his Greek ass
I can’t believe I forgot my favourite Hill to Die On
Seth was not the god of “evil”, and despite his chaos providing a foil to order, he wasn’t completely villified until very late in Egyptian history, when he became associated with despised foreign enemies
Hats off to the few of you who’re reblogging this with tags saying you’re going to check my claims later. You make me not entirely despair of this hellhole.
Here are some vetted Egyptological books/sources (that are by and large appropriate for a lay-audience) you can find most, if not all of the above:
Lehner, M., The Complete Pyramids
Wilkinson, R. H., The Complete Temples of Ancient Egypt
Hornung, E., The One and the Many: Conceptions of God in Ancient Egypt
Dunand, F. & Zivie-Coche, C., Gods and Men in Egypt
Kemp, B., Ancient Egypt: Anatomy of a Civilization
Bard, K., An Introduction to the Archaeology of Ancient Egypt
Stevenson Smith, W., The Art and Architecture of Ancient Egypt
Kitchen, K. A., The Life and Times of Ramesses II, King of Egypt
Sweeney, D., Sex and Gender (in Ancient Egypt)
McDowell, A. G., Village Life in Ancient Egypt: Laundry Lists and Love Songs
Te Velde, H., Seth, God of Confusion
Guys do me a solid and reblog this version instead of continuously asking for sources on the other versions thanks
Excuse me please post ancient erotica link
hey it’s not my fault people keep reblogging the version without it!
if anyone needs to do the apology dance in the finale, it's the fandom for hating aziraphale, when he's the only person actually trying to do something about the threat heaven poses and not running away!!
Crazy its been 9 years since me and my Bestie first did Marinette and Ayla and ten years of friendship <3 i love her so much
See, I killed Joe. I watched myself do it with my own hands, and I have no guilt. None. No remorse. I have been spared all of that.

Trailer Thoughts
I took a deep breath or five so. Here goes nothing.
"How could we have been happy, knowing we were leaving all of these people to goodness knows what awfulness."
I am sure we will get beautiful lines in GO3, but fuck me, this is WHO Aziraphale is, isn't it? Even if they could've run away, Aziraphale could never be happy when others suffer. And he knows damn well Crowley would not be happy either.
And I can't believe people are angry with Aziraphale for trying.
I can't believe the same people point out how it took Aziraphale a few hours to be persuaded to try and stop Armageddon who are think it's fine that Crowley spent however long in the gutter before Aziraphale finally got him to help out with stopping the Second Coming.
Is this about the story or about the fact that people want to make Crowley RIGHT in every possible instance? As if Aziraphale wasn't a real character with real reasons and real opinions and real feelings?
Also, can we consider for a moment that what persuades Aziraphale to try and stop Armageddon is Finding A Way To Do It, So It Is Safe for Crowley. When Crowley would have just be doing his job as he was asked (watching over the Antichrist) and Aziraphale will be meddling and being in disguise, trying to thwart him and his 'evil' plans.
And no, I agree that they did not discuss what happened with Armageddon. And that's partly why everything repeats in F15. Crowley, seeing everything is falling apart wants to run, going as far from the danger as possible. Aziraphale, stubbornly going ahead into impossible tasks like trying to speak to God, losing his body in an accident, flying a fucking scooter to Tadfield thinking killing the kid might be the only actual solution after all, only to thwart the bloody war on a technicality.
But yes, what about their reasoning? What about their feelings? What about how they felt about these options? They don't talk about it not because they are dumbasses or they can't communicate. I think what they are going through is very human and very understandable and I absolutely get why what happened in F15 happened, repeating what happened in S1, but on a bigger scale.
All they want is safety for the other. Crowley would abandon everything to be with Aziraphale for however long they could get and Aziraphale would change the world or die trying to make everything safe for Crowley.
And I don't think this makes them incompatible. I think it makes the world they live in a fucking disaster. And them a beautiful, impossible couple.
What if Metatron wanted Aziraphale because of his power to hold things together, to heal? In S2 everything is so bright and Aziraphale wants things to go well so much he changes reality. Maybe Metatron saw 'something was wrong', things were going awry, missing, reality was 'wobbly'. And he had to try get Aziraphale over and what's more, for him to come 'voluntarily'. So even if Metatron suspected or knew the traitor will not want to destroy the Universe (he can't be that stupid that he'd think Aziraphale would want Second Coming to go ahead), at least he could hope that Aziraphale will try to keep the reality from falling apart.
Of course, the opposite could also be true. Maybe the force holding Earth together was Aziraphale and his love and things start to fall apart when he leaves. But that again only ushers in the need to find a resolution.
Now obviously, Aziraphale was very reluctant to take the offer. We saw that. He was never gonna leave his home for no good bloody reason. Metatron was prepared though, and coerced him with 'an offer he could not refuse'. Threatening Aziraphale's family.
"You could have avoided all this...."
Crowley dear, what the fuck? He couldn't. It was always going to happen. Only possibly, much worse. Because you would be already dead when the Universe is destroyed or you'd watch it happen. What would have been achieved by insisting on not going to Heaven? Aziraphale would never choose death. He would never want to run and leave everything behind like Gabriel and Beelzebub. He's not selfish. He could not let the Universe fall to ruin in Second Coming without trying to stop it. Not after what he found out in S1. So even if it all meant he and Crowley would be separated... it was a good enough reason to go and I do not understand why people hate him for it. We are absolutely not on the same page. I think loving someone and giving them a choice to leave if they cannot follow is the utmost expression of love. Because
"Crowley, this is bigger than you and me."
It always was. Always. Yes, they wanted to have their own side, but it was never really real was it. Both of them in clutches of Heaven and Hell. Even in S2, they knew their new existence as it was, was fragile. But what if they managed to give the option for EVERYONE to choose sides? Or be free of them?
"We can save everyone."
As we all know, building and repairing and making things better is so much harder than just stewing in hate and wanting to tear everything down because someone slighted us. Preparing for war. Making war. Which is what Heaven and Hell relationship seems to be based on. Hate. War. Both sides filled with unhappy entities for reasons completely unconnected to the war that is being talked about and that they are constantly being prepared for. Do they all want to fight? I doubt it. Are they all unhappy? I expect most of them are.
"I was trying to do the right thing."
So. I know I am in the minority and I didn't want Crowley to be living in a dirty sleeping bag. But then again, the trailer is made (not like trailers usually are) to mislead us.
So I do suspect there is more to Crowley than "depressed divorced era".
"You can't change anything."
But Crowley. That's your whole thing. Questioning. Springing to action. If not for you, Aziraphale would never have attempted to stop Armageddon. What a crazy idea! But it worked. Because even when everything was falling apart, Aziraphale insisted on keeping going and trying.
Surely Crowley must have understood why Aziraphale left. I know nearly everyone in the fandom expected Aziraphale to return. Beg for forgiveness. Realise his mistake. Ask for Crowley's help. Say how sorry and wrong he was. Well. We see Aziraphale offer help to Crowley. What baffles me though is, why didn't Crowley offer help? Does he not care for anyone? I simply cannot believe that. There has to be something more. Something we didn't see yet.
And no, it does not surprise me that Crowley ends up going to Heaven and when the Archangels prove useless, hop off with Aziraphale to go and do their own thing. I'd expect nothing less.
Change is possible.
In a Universe where it's claimed that things run according to the Divine Plan.. or maybe it's the Great Plan, or the Ineffable one?
Aziraphale and Crowley themselves are the change. They are different. They are glitches in the Matrix. And I don't think they are the only ones. And I think they have to come together and work together and get others to consider what it is they actually want to fight for.
Oh and Jesus. Yes. I hope there is more to him than a meek lamb we see so far. I hope he knows what he's doing. Jesus too is a healer. And his first time on Earth did him dirty. He tried his best and followed what was asked of him...
There's a post going around Tumblr about how if you're post-menopausal and have bleeding, you should get it checked by your doctor. I brought some minor bleeding I'd had up in a doctor visit earlier this year, prompted by that post, and this week, after a biopsy, I found out I have cancer. It's early stage and the survival odds at 5 years are 99%. I have an oncologist appointment and we may have caught it early enough that surgery alone will be sufficient treatment (no radiation/chemo).
So that post may have saved my life and it may have made my treatment a lot easier too.
If you get into menopause and then start bleeding again, really, get your reproductive innards checked out. The life you save may be your own.
