I think I feel as though I shouldn’t say goodbye to you in case I’m not allowed to in case I didn’t know you well enough. You left too soon. No words will ever honour that. I could say that you were a good person and you were but it doesn’t feel as though that could really express you. Little things, when you came into the shop everyday and bought pepperami, Pringles and orange juice and you’d stay and have a chat before saying that you’d “best get back to it” and finishing work at 9pm. I remember going to the BBQ and seeing you there, laughing with your friends, always laughing, always wanting to have a laugh, and you made a lot of people smile. I don’t want to remember you by your funeral, I want to remember you by your grin, by the cars that you loved to mend, by the fact you enjoyed a night out and that you’d finally found love. This is who you are; life, not death.
