!MDNI!(Trigger warning mentions of sexual assault, mental issues, and more. Iâm not insulting anyoneâs work, this is my perspective on stuff Iâve read as a reader and my own thoughts.)
I donât know if itâs just me or if anyone else feels this way but I feel like Y/N and reader are two different people like completely different and are not even relatively the same.
Now you might be like âno theyâre not, theyâre the same person the reader is y/nâs name and thatâs what they go by and theyâre one person and etc etc.â First of all, thatâs your opinion and Iâm not going knock it or anything and try to convince otherwise, this is just my perspective, and what I think
|Y/N| So when I say Y/n and reader arenât the same, Iâm being completely dead serious when I say theyâre two separate people to me. To me, Y/n is wattpad and early tumblr days. You know in love with CEO, always abused, super tiny, and every guy wants her(because it seems sheâs never anything else but a female and rarely ever actually genderfluid or a male, and is always mentioned with some type of female part)sheâs always described lightly to be white and not even inclusive of POC people.
Donât get me wrong, I used to eat that stuff up by ignoring the very obvious fact that she was addressed as female or was always bitchy and whiny and acted like a child. Or worse, for some reason overpowered everyone. Once again I used to eat that stuff up, especially Mary sue stuff. But itâs like she was either a cry baby and weak and the villain wanted her or she was super badass and everyone including the villains(who could have canon girlfriends in shows or movies or books) wanted her. She was never really a girlâs girl which bothered me because it was always the misunderstood troupe with someone she was supposed to be friends with finally.
It was and still is the same thing, Y/n to me is forever a pick me who has daddy issues and came from an abusive household. The villain wants her but she wants the hero who wants her, she gets sexually assaulted by the villain and never gets the help she needs and ends up having sex like right after sheâs assaulted. M/N aka male Y/N is also literally the same way just as a guy whoâs femboy(no hate to femboys in irl) with a fat ass and a body girls are jealous of. Heâs always so innocent and canât do anything and needs his âdaddyâ to help him. Quite literally the same font as Y/N. Itâs weird and creepy to me because itâs like whereâs the emotion and the feelings, not every reader is male centered or has mental issues(all of which are almost catered for only the character x them to be fix by rather an actual psychiatrist.)(And always from an abusive household)
|Reader| Reader now is the complete polar opposite of Y/N. No not like N/Y, I mean like has actual personality that can be worked around and like how a real person would act. Theyâre actually genderfluid as a reader so anyone can read even smut ones have found a way and are absolutely amazing. Though my issue with reader is that itâs automatically female reader but isnât stated. It takes female pronouns to be said that brings down the quality of what technically should be a genderfluid fic. Reader isnât really bitchy and is more often made to be a little reserved from the actual characters not really in a way thatâs shy but more so in a way that fate truly pulls them together rather than some crazy thing happening for it to happen.
Itâs the same with child! reader whos not a snobby kid but just a child who also kind of doesnât really have present parents in any adoption type of story and realistically earns a reserved personality for it, rather than the child being super super shy and overall acting way younger but more like theyâre too independent.
Thatâs another thing! Reader is actually independent with a working job more often than not or can cook for themselves(ima let noodles count)and didnât really have any issues in their life even before and after their designated lover is. Y/N is not the real Barbie but Reader is. Reader is usually made to be normal and can actually be kind to everyone they meet but have their own little quirks that make them a societal loser with a heart. Instead of society princess who canât do anything wrong and only does stuff for her CEO boyfriend.
Reader when it comes to mental issues actually shows somewhat accurate responses. It was a yandere story and the character had finally lost it and reader didnât stay but genuinely left, it took a couple of years for them to recouple but that was one of the first times, a character x reader(for me) the reader didnât act like Y/N and didnât stay. Reader is 100x better no doubt than Y/n(in my opinion)
And overall, theyâre really two different people. Y/N is more for early tumblr days and wattpad while reader is more so AO3 and now tumblr. Iâm not saying that Y/N has no good writing or parts of herself that I donât like, she has quite of few good writers and flaws that I love. Same with reader, they have their own flaws and issues that arenât really nice but I still enjoy some stories.
This was honestly just a little random thought of mine thatâs been simmering as a reader(thanks for making it this far!)
